We'll probably end up hearing that Ed "baulked at the price"So you've posted a bad source and you didn't read the tweet. Well done!
Poch or not these are the calibre of players we need to sign, we need to stop revolving our transfer approach on types of players managers want (especially considering Poch has no contract with United) and just go for a player that will add value regardless of philosophies.Poch wanted to sign Grealish and Bruno Fernandes last summer, we have signed Bruno already and linked with Grealish.
Hopefully we are building squad for Poch and act like big club for once.
That will never end well. It should be always recruitment team/DoF working closely with manager and sign the profile of player coach wants for his team.Poch or not these are the calibre of players we need to sign, we need to stop revolving our transfer approach on types of players managers want (especially considering Poch has no contract with United) and just go for a player that will add value regardless of philosophies.
By that I meant we should avoid going for a specialist player, i.e. a Van Gaal type player that obviously wouldn't fit in a Mourinho system. I'd rather we just sign a top class player that would long term be here. That will never end well. It should be always recruitment team/DoF working closely with manager and sign the profile of player coach wants for his team.
Yeah but we should also hire managers for that. For example we can't sign a great #10 and then hire a manager who prefers playing 4-3-3 or 3=5=2. We need that planning on how to build the squad and also the type of coach we should be hiring.By that I meant we should avoid going for a specialist player, i.e. a Van Gaal type player that obviously wouldn't fit in a Mourinho system. Disagree. The idea that coaches need certain profiles of players is massively overstated here - very few are so narrow-minded. Coaches want to work with good players more than anything else. That will never end well. It should be always recruitment team/DoF working closely with manager and sign the profile of player coach wants for his team.
Again that will depend on continuity too like not hiring defensive managers after hiring manager like Van Gaal.
You cant sign a defensive FB and hire Pep as a coach, same with Conte and a CB who is not comfortable in 3 at the back system.Disagree. Guardiola has used Walker as a ‘defensive’ full back as well as that period where he had him moving into central midfield. He had Abidal at Barcelona too. What centre halves are uncomfortable in every position in a back three? Coaches will use good players it really is as simple as that. You cant sign a defensive FB and hire Pep as a coach, same with Conte and a CB who is not comfortable in 3 at the back system.
They won't have to match 100% but there are profile of players that manager wants and you can't push completely opposite player on them.
Who doesn't to be honest? Amazing player. If Poch likes him then all systems go in the summer.
Walker was very good at making overlapping runs, then he switched to FBs coming inside to support midfield thing.Guardiola has used Walker as a ‘defensive’ full back as well as that period where he had him moving into central midfield. Although I don't think MCT should be part of the first 11 but if we had to do so, I would play 4-1-2-1-2 given that we only signed Grealish and played Williams and AWB is wingback roles to provide width and overlap Grealish and MCT. Fred would need to be told not to cross the half way line and protect the CBs.So would we play him on the wing as seems to have been the case this season or would he be a no. 10?
Concerned that a McT/Bruno/Grealish midfield lacks discipline and positional sense and could be bypassed easily. Also concerned if we were to leave him out right he could be less effective than being more central...
Considering our need for creativity in our team, the quality of Grealish, how he has proven himself in the PL and the fact he possess quite a few qualities we lack, we should be in for him if he is available for the fee being mentioned. Look how volnerable we have been to injuries this year. Rashford has probably played to much and with Pogba out injured we have had no creativity in our team. Imagine how much we could have used him this year, the first half of the season as an option to Pogba, the second half as an option to Rashford. Furthermore, he could have played as a LW when Rashford played as a striker when Martial was injured. In short, he would provide us so many more options. What if Bruno and/or Rash gets injured next year? What if Bruno struggle to adapt? Some people on the caf just want new players at any cost. Grealish's two favoured positions are taken by Bruno and Rashford. Rashford is basically our best player as seeing as Pogba is on his way out while Bruno is the man we're pinning our hopes on to replace Pogba, so how does Grealish fit in.
Yes you could play them both in CM but this makes little sense to me because they are both AM's. City did it with KDB and Silva but Pep is a master of midfield play while our dear Ole is anything but.
It makes far more sense to get a proper CM and DM than trying to shoehorn Grealish into the team because you like him.
While that's true, we also do need the depth. Grealish is having a very good season at LW, but could also cover Fernandes in the CAM role better than Pereira or Lingard. Some people on the caf just want new players at any cost. That's just a 4-3-3, it's Bruno and Grealish that have to do the really hard work in that formation.———-—New dm————-
—Bruno————-Grealish
James—New cf—-Rashford
Think this could work but it would need a really good dm and hard working wingers. Don’t think we could get away with Martial or Mata out wide for instance.
I think they’re both hard working enough to make it work though, it’s not as if we’d be playing two Mesut Ozils. That's just a 4-3-3, it's Bruno and Grealish that have to do the really hard work in that formation.
Bruno is better as a No. 10 while Grealish has confirmed himself that his favorite position is No. 8. If Ole does do 4-2-3-1, it'll beAlthough I'd like to see Grealish as much as anyone else (I'm a big fan), I can't imagine Ole going away from his favoured 4231 formation. I posted a 442 formation the other day, more out of hope, rather than what I feel Ole will do.
The only way I see us buying Grealish is if Ole has plans of dropping Bruno deeper. Due to the happening against Wolves, and us arguably being better and more dominant in the second with Bruno in the deeper role, then I don't see it as an outlandish claim to have a midfield three of Fred/McTominay, Bruno and Grealish, especially against teams who sit back.
Martial
Grealish
Rashford Fred Bruno Winger
Williams Maguire Lindelof Wan-Bissaka
De Gea
McTominayThis is a formation for a good modern manager to adopt, obviously not for Ole. It certainly wouldn't work for his anti-football brand of attacking "coaching".
Bruno ------ Grealish
??? ------ ??? ------ Rashford
Martial’s better then Wener though. But other than that good three if we don’t waste money on Timo.Sancho - Werner - Rashford *
not gonna happen but think that would be a killer front three
Rashford would die on the right, he'd struggle with a striker would doesn't bring him to play like Martial does as well because he will constantly find himself deeper(it's poulsen who does this exact thing for Werner), one on one with the fullback and being the one who has to create.Sancho - Werner - Rashford *
