Donovan----------Pulisic-----------Dempsey
-------------Harkes------------Cameron----------
Spector---Bocanegra---DeMerit---Yedlin
-------------------------Friedel--------------------------

Pulisic hasn't yet proved himself but other options would be Moore and Wegerle, but Pulisic is going to be better than both.

Can't embed the tactics sheet. http://sharemytactics.com/142604/

Mine would be (4-2-3-1)

GK: Friedel
RB: Yedlin
CB: Cameron
CB: Bocanegra
LB: Beasley
CM: Reyna
CM: Holden
RW: Pulisic
AM: Dempsey
LW: Donovan

Surely Babbel at RB than Volz. But yea, didn't expect the German team to be any good

Also maybe Boateng for Rudiger or Mertesacker? I know he was at City for only one season and wasn't very good because he was being shuttled to RB most of the time, but seeing that people are adding players based on their whole careers rather than the EPL career (otherwise Gullit shouldn't be in the Dutch team) Boateng should definitely be there.

I see no reason Boateng needs to be in the team. Mertersacker and Rudiger aren’t nobodies themselves.

And Gullit did enough In the PL to make the Dutch team for sure.

Before my time but any older Evertonians I know rate Gough very highly.
He was 39-40ish at the time but seemed to get positive reviews. Kept clean sheets home and away against Liverpool IIRC who would have had Owen and Fowler in their pomp.

For balance, I think Nigel De Jong should fit in somewhere for Holland. He was brilliant for a while at City.

I can only remember Gough at Rangers. I have no memory of him anywhere else for some reason. Part of me believes he still plays for Rangers.

All the Scots play in Scotland for a bit before being promoted to the Everton first team.

Nice! I'd have Schwarzer over Bosnich and Emerton in at RB. Maybe move Sun Jihai to CB and drop Neil.

basically 9 players who’s job will be to run, defend and break opponents legs and then hope Gylfi and Eiður can figure something out in attack.

I’m pretty sure the back 6 would rack up about 30 red cards a season for shit housery

Probably better overall balance. I had completely forgotten about Reyna! I would have kept Cameron in place of DeMerit in a new team sheet.

I had thought of Holden but felt Harkes reached higher peak in the league, shame Holden's injuries stunted his progress.

I'll never put Beasley at LB in any team sheet. He was often positionally naive IMO, rather put Convey back there in that sense. Be a good sub option.

Albert Ferrer could go in the back line, as could Eric García who is an actual centre half who has played a few games for City now. He’s ex-Barcelona.

Not sure if Pedro is technically Catalan, but he’s ex-Barcelona kid so you can maybe get away with him upfront. If not, Albert Luque was definitely a Catalan.

I love the look of the Dutch but has there not been a better CM that Van Der Vaart? Davids maybe?

Pedro is from Tenerife and joined Barca at 17 so I can't really count him. I can put Ferrer in at the back although the defence is comprised of 3 RBs or put Garcia there who is actuallly a CB but not ever experienced. Luque can go up front along with Vasquez who have a combined 1 goal between them in the Premier League. The midfield is respectable but the rest of the team isn't anything to write home about with the exceptions of Pique and Valdes.

Everytime such a thread pops up I feel proud to be Dutch. What a talent we had. France will win this though.

Or you could put Deulofeu up top and then look for another midfielder instead if you prefer. Fran Mérida if you prefer, although he’s a relative nobody too.

I’m not sure France necessarily win tbh. You need to pick a more balanced Dutch side than has been picked though, which basically has two defenders.

Bring Daley Blind into the back 3 for Gio, and sacrifice a forward and bring De Jong into the midfield then you could be going somewhere.

That French midfield is designed to take the ball off you but not necessarily do much with it. I’d look at bringing Pogba, Djorkaeff, Cabaye, Nasri or Payet into the middle of the park for balance. Evra in a back three isn’t ideal either I don’t think, I’d probably put Silvestre at LCB.

Or Wijnaldum?
Another good shout, although I still think De Jong would be better to just sit and break up play. Wijnaldum could potentially threaten VdV in the line up 10 yards further forward for me, to create a more balanced midfield.

Piracy on the High Seas.
@horsechoker, Pepe Reina and Luis García are both eligible for the Catalan XI.

P.S. Technically (and in a somewhat far-fetched way), Cantona and Lloris can represent them, too.

I barely recall Donovan's stint in the PL (Everton I think?)

I felt Reina had too loose of a connection, he was born in Madrid, his father was from Cordoba and he joined Barca at 13. He would probably eligible for the team but I wonder whether he would actually identify as Catalan or play for their team. Perhaps we can put Cantona in as he hated the French FA!

Now we're talking!

Cantona could carry the team to victory!

It says a lot that he is held in such high regard even though he was at the end of his career.

Looking at the rest of your team I would rate Naismith higher than McFadden. Despite McFadden's heroics for Scotland I always thought he was very average for us whereas Naismith had two season where he played like a poor mans Thomas Muller by popping up with goals against big teams with his excellent movement.

He came over on loan from LA Galaxy (twice if I recall) and was a huge hit at Goodison. Think they wanted him permanently.

Donavon actually had two spells at Everton. He joined on loan in January in 2010 and 2012 and kick started our season on both occasions. He was a really good player and it was a shame we couldn't buy him. I remember him tearing Neville apart one game when we beat United 3-1 at Goodison in his first spell.

Yeah I tend to agree. McFadden saved his best for the national team, although a lot of our fans over-rated him there in my view. To be honest Kevin Gallacher is probably the best fit injecting some pace across the front line and was pretty good for Blackburn through the 1990s.
Also played for Spurs when he was younger.
Indeed - have a gander at the quotes on Hoddle and Mabbutt on him earlier in the thread.

Ardiles played in England before the Premier League
Aye, but Diarm relaxed the criteria.

Cheers. Did feel he wasted a bit of his talent in the MLS (LA Galaxy fans love him for it I'm sure)

That Dutch team...whoa. fecking loaded. Shore up the midfield a bit during some matches, but good luck stopping them from scoring or getting the ball.
De Jong was pretty good at City and well suited to this task

The defence is shocking, but they're still having those Italian and Irish sides on toast with that front 4.
I don't like all these 3-4-3 sides with no wingbacks but I think it's worth it for the Welsh to get Gunter out of there and have Joe Allen in, even if it means having to play a Pep style 3-5-2 lineuo with Bale and Giggs as wingbacks, Rush and Hughes up top and Allen-Ramsey-Speed in front of a Davies-Collins-Williams back 3, though you might drop Collins for a slightly more mobile type like Chester or Delaney in that setup? Or even Speed in the back 3 and Simon Davies into midfield, he got pretty good at doing a defensive job under Hodgson at Fulham.
