A brilliant hour or so long interview with Rio - for a small podcast, they ask some absolutely cracking questions.

Highly recommend everyone to give this podcast a listen. They’ve been getting some really interesting characters on, talking frankly about their careers.

Give it a tickle.

Rio's been doing the rounds today it seems, been nice getting his thoughts on a lot of hot button issues within the fanbase

Another good interview he just did earlier

Pogba would be kidding himself if he thinks he'd get an easier ride from the media and fans in Madrid. These are fans that have boo'd their greatest ever player

Rio's the best pundit on TV

I was really for him to be DOF here as well even with zero experience

Good point on Rio about players went to night club, getting drunk or sometime got in trouble for driving while you are drunk. Pogba doesn't do those kind of stuffs at all. Haircut & social media are much better than those kind of stuffs.

Very impressed by the guys who held the interview. They did their research, asked some penetrating questions and didn’t shy away from controversy. I really liked how they showed genuine deference to Rio for being a respected elder and idol, and yet didn’t hold back in questioning.

Because of their approach and professionalism. Rio was very lucid and honest in his answers, giving details and insight rarely seen in more established and traditional media. Makes sky tv interviews look so corporate and staged.

Rio’s my favourite ever United player. As a man, he just resonates with me more than any other player ever, and I see him as the most relatable for me personally. Top man.

Facts. Weirdly enough I said this nearly word to word to a friend yesterday.

Rio was bang on about Pogba there. At the end of the day if he was giving the best possible performance he could then nobody could say shit, but the obsession with him from media is unfair and fecking bizarre and all of the problems he has comes from his agent.

funny how these sort of channels always ask way better questions than journalists

That wasnt the point of the interview. United fans mock Real Madrid for doing that and yet at the same time have no issues (not everyone but a sizeable proportion on social media) when United fans are participating in the witch hunt. People here defended the disgraceful scene at the end of last season when few people in crowd were heckling Pogba despite him being our best player last season.

The vast majority on here didn't defend that at all

Also, Rio knows ball. He said he'd want us to get Sancho, Partey and maybe another CB. Also mentioned Saul

Rio for director of football :wenger:

And yet, our fans are the most toxic in the world, according to... our fans.

Saw Rio with Batty and Duberry with some other lads in Leeds once, during the day shopping or something, absolute unit. One of my favourite United legends.

Possibly because his religion is incompatible with drinking alcohol?

All about opinions but he's a very average pundit. You've obviously a blind spot for Rio, as you state he lacks any experience for the role and I'd be very concerned if he got the role. What a player though, best centre half during the PL era.

Rio is perfectly fine but not one of the better ones.

But we aren’t talking about people in general either secular, atheist or follow a religion. It was specifically about Pogba.
You are missing the point. I don't see the religion matters here and shouldn't be mentioned. Pogba could just be one of those people who don't like to drink.

I think Rio’s words on Pogba echo most of what I have said on here over time. I particularly resonated with what he said about Toure. He said people always used to go on about how ‘he can’t defend’ or ‘can’t play in a midfield two’, to which he said ‘well don’t ask him to defend or play in a midfield two then!’. He said why don’t people focus on what he CAN do rather than continually going on about what he cannot do? Which is something I’ve said countless times. Pogba certainly has limitations. But he didn’t get to where he is by being all limitations. If you actually choose to, there is plenty to admire and plenty of things that he can do.

He’s a Muslim mate. As far as I know, it matters to him

It means nothing, there are many muslims, or those who called themselves muslims that drink a lot. It's entirely Pogba's decision not to drink.

At the end of the day it still doesn't matter because the point is that he makes responsible decisions. It doesn't matter why he makes these responsible decisions, just that he does.
I totally agree

However why for him is more than likely directly linked to his faith. If ones faith is fundamental to their very being, then it does matter to him why he makes the right choices.
I’m not a religious person in the slightest but have studied all the world’s major religions as well as a few lesser known ones. For most, strict adherence to the tenets of their religion defines who they are.

You got some issue mate.

His religion doesn't matter here, why don't you get it? Stop trying to find a reason why Pogba decided not to drink.

What matters is what he does. And what he does is better than some other footballer.
