Of course but when you have Sancho who can offer what Grealish offers in AM or LW and Greenwood can cover for Sancho in RW then you have to focus on the other holes in the team
I also suspect Grealish is the back up option, if Sancho deal fails. Seems like overkill to have both, especially since we’d also benefit from another top centre back.

If Bruno gets injured, I’d expect Pogba to step into no10 (Fred or McT can play no8). Also Sancho could fill in.

Sancho plus a top shelf CB is the priority positions, plus sell as many of Smalling, Rojo, Jones, Sanchez, Lingard and Andreas to allow youth players the opportunity for minutes.

IF we have funds left over, then we can consider Grealish or another.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
I really don't think Bruno Fernandes would slack off though or let an injury affect his form unless it's a really bad one. Ole summed him up in one sentence. Believes in giving 100% and that 99% isn't good enough. I honestly believe Bruno could make us challenge providing we get the recruitment of players right. So therefore Jack Grealish would never be in the first eleven. If I was Jack Grealish I would go to Arsenal. Would walk straight into their first eleven
Obviously these things often don't work out as expected, but right now it appears that we and Chelsea are strengthening in a way that will leave ourselves cemented in the top four with Liverpool and City going forward. Arsenal look like they aren't really going anywhere atm, Spurs seem to be at the end of their cycle and are going to struggle, Leicester are extremely reliant on a 33yo Vardy, and Wolves are doing well but would have to be considered outsiders. As such it really depends on what Grealish wants. He could prefer to go to one of those four and likely start 50+ games a season in their strongest line-up but not really challenge for any titles other than maybe an odd FA Cup or Europa League (and they wouldn't be amongst the favourites for either). Or he could go to one of the top four where he may have to settle for only 30 or so starts (and 20+ appearances off the bench) but he'll be in a team hopefully challenging for titles. It wouldn't exactly be a surprise if he prefers the latter. Even if it's only for a few seasons while he's backing himself to get plenty of games, and then if it doesn't eventuate he can leave to be a starter elsewhere (and in the meantime we've had a very good option for those few years).

Actually, Newcastle might be a real option if their takeover goes ahead (although I'm guessing we won't know early enough for them to play a factor this window). Grealish would be one of my priority signings in their position, and they'd be able to throw a huge wage at him with the promise they will be competing for a CL spot in a couple of seasons.

Him being more mobile makes him better in defensive transition in a 'high press'

I'd even take a punt on a mobile CB as DM over Matic in a 'high press' because Matic I don't believe has the dynamism for the role. #high press

Feel free to disagree.
No it doesn’t. It just means he can run slightly quicker. It doesn’t make him a better DM for transitions because he has no experience or worth in that role. Matic has years of experience leading to outstanding defensive positioning. If he was so crap at it how are we pressing higher and still tearing teams apart.

You literally don’t know what you’re talking about here and are now on a wind up.

If you’ve seen DVB play you’d know he’s not a defensive player anymore than Pogba is.

Find anyone with half a brain that watches DVB play and they will laugh at you suggesting him at DM over Matic because of mobility and dynamism. You’re obsessed with mobility even when it’s proven to you that is one tiny aspect of football.

I don't understand people on here, how is it overkill to have Grealish and Sancho if it means we never have to see the likes of Mata, Andreas or Lingard again? We need both. If we go into next season and those three are still seeing minutes, we're not progressing to the heights people are hoping for anytime soon.

Haven’t seen anyone say it’s overkill other than Sammysky1 Most people don’t want to misallocate funds to Grealish if it makes a Sancho deal harder.

I just think if we're going after both its because we can afford both? I doubt we'll buy Grealish and then be checking our piggy bank and be like "damn it not enough pennies for Sancho now, check under the sofa!".

Perhaps I should’ve said resources instead I meant cash and negotiation time being diverted away from a Sancho deal.

When you consider Sancho plays all the positions Grealish does in our attacking midfield that’s why I’d rather focus on that deal.

If Sancho comes the only question then becomes do we want an AM/CM or DM/CM? Grealish, while I appreciate what he’s done in the championship, doesn’t strike me as the man to lead us creatively from deeper.

I believe big deals take more time and resources than little ones yes and so I would prefer we focus on Sancho who is the only deal available that instantly improves our starting XI.

But we still don't have good enough 1st choice options at cb or cdm currently. Grealish is the type of signing to make if you have all of your other positions covered already. We don't though.
I think we do. We’ll drop more points through Lingard replacing an injured Bruno than we will by starting Lindelof or Bailly alongside Maguire, or bringing in McTominay or Fred in place of Matic.

Our centre halves won’t make a blind bit of difference if we are unable to score goals. Maldini and Baresi would not compensate for Lingard or Pereira.

Isn't this a perfect way to summarise why we need another creative midfielder. I do feel if we get Sancho then we should get am upgrade on Lindelof or a DM (depending on whether Fred or Mctominay can fill in for Matic). If we get Sancho an injured Bruno can be replaced by Sancho and Greenwood would fill in for Sancho as RW.

So we would have a solid Bruno cover and a solid Sancho cover when Sancho is playing in Bruno's position. We already have a good Pogba cover in Fred so our midfield would be sorted. I think getting Sancho would give us the depth and creativity we need in midfield and should allow us focus on other positions. It's just a good way to get the best out of the budget we have and still build a solid team.

I think the bigger question is would Grealish be willing to come with Sancho, Rashford, Greenwood, and Fernandes all above him in the pecking order, fighting for the 3 positions he mainly plays. So it's less of a question of overkill and more about how to get him without paying an over the top premium just to convince him to come and sit behind 4 young players that the club is very invested in.

As for his other options, it's not like Liverpool, City, and Chelsea wouldn't like another young option in the midfield. Liverpool's midfield is the weakest part of their team, at City he could be the successor to an aging David Silva, and at Chelsea he would have to beat out Ross Barkley. That's not even mentioning other leagues. The problem with getting multiple top tier talents at every position at a club as good and as rich as United is less about overkill and more about how do you convince them they will get the playing time they want.

Players join City with plenty of competition for places, if we look to be going places, why wouldn't Grealish want to come and fight for a first team spot? How lacking in hunger and belief do people think these players are? If he comes, its because he believes he can start and force his way into a starting spot.

Make no mistake about it, Grealish will want to join United. I agree with what you said, if he comes is because he has self belief and confidence which is exactly what we want.

If we get UCl, he will get games, PL and CL. He will be given his chances and if he takes them, he will be putting pressure on Bruno, Pogba, Rashford etc to up their level.

What happens when Bruno gets worked out and needs a rest? or Pogba ?

Can we go to Brighton away with Perreira or Lingard? No. Can we with Grealish instead of Bruno? Yes.

Him & Sancho would make a very good summer. Ideally we’d get a defensive midfielder in too but that can wait another year if needs be.

A very strange statement to make when Bailly immediately cost us 2 goals against a Bournemouth side that are most likely about to be relegated. I disagree with you massively on the quality we have in these positions and I do believe we will drop points due to our weakness in these positions if we go into next season without any signings. Obviously if Fernandes gets injured that's a major blow but he's a player with a very good injury record. I don't recall him ever having a long-term injury in his career whereas a player like Shaw has been consistently injured throughout his career. Matic has similarly had problems with injuries and in general has gone through extended periods of poor form. Despite being good since the restart Matic had been extremely poor for almost 2 full seasons before this. If we were to bring in Sancho he could cover Fernandes' position to an extent anyway without the need to sign Grealish. We would also have the natural creativity of Pogba and we could just push him further forward if necessary. I don't see it being as big of a problem as you are trying to suggest if we get Sancho. If we don't get Sancho, the only reason would be due to the price in which case I'd rather just spend the extra to get Sancho since he's a far superior player to Grealish.

Dude I'm giving my opinion, you can disagree with it. I would have Axel Tuanzebe over Matic in a high press. I just don't rate Matic at all off the ball in such a high risk approach. The dude is just too cumbersome.

You've also argued with me over the high press and provided Ole quotes to try and disprove me. But those quotes actually proved I was correct and Ole has confirmed in his post match interviews in the last few games that we're pressing high just like he played at Molde.

I'm glad more people are talking about how Sancho can play Bruno's AM position so we should focus on other positions instead of AM. I wonder what would happen if Maguire gets an injury. If Bruno gets injured we'll be fine with Sancho Pogba and Matic in midfield. If Matic gets injured instead i think we will be fine with Pogba Bruno and Fred in midfield. But if Maguire gets injured do people really want to see a Lindelof and Bailly CB pairing?

I think a lot of people are underrating how good Grealish actually is.
100% agree. He flies under the radar due to playing for Villa but he's an elite creative force in European football in one of the least potent attacks in the league. Likes a party, but if he's fully committed he could be outstanding for us. Calling him a back up is really misguided.

Nice one Jack, now come and play with Pogba next season and really get under his skin. That is impressive stats from Buendia too considering like Grealish his team are in a serious relegation battle.

If Aston Villa were relegated, do you think we could pinch him for a budget price? Which other Premier League teams do we think would be interested in him where he's a guaranteed starter?

Oddly enough, I could see him getting in Liverpool's starting XI more-so than ours, but I'm not sure if Liverpool will be looking at him. I wouldn't be surprised if it became Fabinho & Grealish +1 at Liverpool.

Spurs are the next option and were already linked previously. I assume José wants to go with Lo Celso & Alli with a more defensive player behind them though... I don't think they'll have as much to spend as other teams so I don't know if they'll give Mourinho what might be seen as a more luxury player rather than an area where they really need reinforcement. Eg. More offensive presence from central midfield is one of the few things Liverpool were in need of, so he would make sense in that side.

I highly doubt he goes to Chelsea or Man City as they seem more well stocked in that particular kind of player than even ourselves are.

However, would he come to Manchester United to probably be on the bench most weeks? I'd probably say yes if none of the above teams are interested, he might see it as a bigger opportunity if only Manchester United wants him out of the big six if he were for example offered a contract with Wolves or Everton.

Then your opinion has no basis and I’m perfectly entitled to call you out in opinions that are not based on any solid evidence.

You’d honestly play Tuanzebe at CDM over Matic what a joke! I’m not responding to you on this anymore because you just have made clear a lack of understanding, an agenda and it’s a waste of time showing you you’re wrong because you don’t listen.

The Ole quotes were in reference to him discussing counter attacking football and wanting to play fast progressive passes. You can’t ignore the context and then claim he’s saying something completely different.

We’re playing our best football and guess who has been CDM successfully in those games? Matic so bore off with your mobility agenda.

May be an unpopular opinion but surely Grealish should just ignore this and do his talking on the pitch. Seems like a fragile ego.

It was you who responded to me while I was answering a question posed by another member and I gave my opinion. So maybe you should bore off and stop with your nonsense about me misleading people. You seem to get riled up easily.

If we don't get Sancho this summer, I would be happy with grealish and a striker like raul jiminez with rashford covering rw sometimes.
