Gareth Bale vs Madrid

Fair play to him. He's been crucial to Madrid's CL success and he's been hounded by the media, boo'd by fans and mistreated by Zidane. Since then it's been a vicious cycle where his attitude hasn't been great and that then would make him even more hated amongst Zidane and fans but from what I remember there were no real issues of him being uncommitted until he got hounded by the press and Zidane publicly shamed him in interview (s?).
He hasn't been mistreated by anyone. He's washed up and past it and therefore doesn't deserve to play It's as simple as that really.

I'll also remind you that despite his 2 final goals, Bale was a substitute player in both the 16/17 and 17/18 seasons for Madrid

As long as he's showing up to training and he is fulfilling his media obligations he's obligated to sit down and cash those checks if Zidane doesn't want to use him in games.
But you can see his attitude, sleeping on the bench whilst the club is playing? I wonder why he’s not getting picked...

And he wasn't washed up then. I cant speak on now as I haven't seen Madrid this season. But certainly then he wasn't and him being a sub was largely down to Zidane not taking fancying him for whatever reason.

I’m really not sure he’s the same player any more. Injuries have taken a toll, otherwise there would always be a way back into the team.

That’s not how it works. The contract is there for a reason. Real are trying to force him out because they wanted a shiny new toy immediately after signing him up long term. Bale has no obligation to grant them that if it doesn’t make sense for him financially.

They tried a similar tactic with beckham as well.

Not convinced he’s laughing at the fact he hasn’t been brought on. He doesn’t care enough about that. Probably someone he was talking to.

In his last game he did nothing. Statistically invisible and tends to be common.
Rodrygo and Asensio do it well. When you value team spirit and attitude so much, about to win la liga, it's not the moment to do that.
Perhaps in training he lacks that extra commitment that Zidane demands and that mocking attitude is only the tip of the iceberg, what the fan sees.

Bit far in my opinion. He needs to display some professionalism in front of cameras at least. I can understand him sulking away from that but he can at least pretend he's bothered for the fans and for his teammates on match days.

Definitely. I think he's laughing in an ironic sense, rather than it being funny.
Pretty sad tbh. He might be laughing but it has to be difficult for him.
He's been unprofessional and a disgrace. Wales, Golf, Madrid nonsense. It's Madrid's fault they give him such a big contract but lack of respect. You can't feel sorry for him, on 350k and behaving like this. He deserves all the criticism he gets.

They treated him poorly for years and then gave him a massive contract, I wouldn’t blame him if his attitude suffers.
You see when he plays for Wales that he cares, because they actually back him.
Like others have said, he had a deal agreed to leave but Madrid changed the deal and so he stayed.

The club agreed to let him go for free then decided they wanted cash at the last minute. It goes both ways.

He was being outperformed by Isco back then, he didn't lose his starting spot for no reason. Madrid were playing better in a diamond formation with Isco behind Ronaldo and Benzema

As for where he is at right now, he was dreadful all of last year despite Lopetegui giving him significant playtime, Solari quickly gave up on him and Zidane prefers other options.

It doesn't excuse his behaviour, so unprofessional. If was a United player, people would be going mad. I can't stand Real but hate footballer's like this.

Absolute disgrace that isn’t it.

Theyve tried moving him on multiple times but won’t leave (to be fair he’s on a massive contract) . Seems to be fine spending the rest of his career on the bench and pocketing the cash. He was 28 and easily one of the best players in the world but he gave up giving a feck I think.
Too right. He was an integral part of the team, but because he wasn't Ronaldo he's irrationally hated. The media, the fans and Zidane has treated him like garbage, and yet they want him to makes concessions so they can get rid of him? It's their hole, they can dig themselves out.

And I thought having Alexis was bad, if I was Zidane I would make him train with the reserves until he's sold or his contract expires.

Just going to point out that Bale has played more minutes in the league than Isco, Rodrygo or Hazard

He's been consistently outperformed by a pair of brazilian teenagers.

Last season he was supposed to be the star of the team, and he was tragic

So yeah. Thanks for everything you've given to this club, and it is a lot. Now feck off please

if it was a block now a year later it seems like a terrible greedy mistake.
We would have freed ourselves from a gigantic salary and we would not be constrained in the market
asensio's injury in the summer probably had a lot to do with it

Meh this is problem Madid themselves created. They froze him out and then gave him a new shiny contract anyway.

Always a good laugh, who knew teetotal, in bed by 9pm, family man Bale could cause so much sh*t at Madrid

He really is just taking the p*ss now, laughing at not playing, then falling asleep

If it was one of our own players, we'd be fuming. Imagine Alexis doing shit like this. Our rivals would say great and all that, but i think it is highly unprofessional personally. You laugh for a second and then you think what a twat he is and being happy he isn't here for some reason. Some were desperate enough to want him here. He would be on massive wages and past it. Bullet dodged. As soon as he went to Real and rejected us, that was it for me to not go back in for him.

For people defending him, he had choices at multiple times and chose to stick with Madrid. This has been he cast since 2016, with utd in particular linked with him and he chose to stay there despite the club and fans lack of support.

Tbf it was clearly an ironic laugh at not being subbed in (all were used) so he decided to sit back and relax.

he didn’t actually fall asleep was just pretending, there was like 3 minutes of the match left.

Anyway if he really wanted to play he could annul his contract and go back to England but he prefers the money I guess.

No one is taking him off their hands, so why don't they just try mutually agree to buy off his contract? Or is that not a thing? :nervous:

Did you really not have any other options other than to keep him? No youth or other squad players? He’s been a fecking nightmare for you for some time now, I can’t believe you didn’t just get rid at the first opportunity. If somebody offered us a bag of peanuts for Sanchez I reckon we’d take it regardless of what backup we have. As Ole said, he’d rather have a hole in the squad than an arsehole.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.

I remember when we were linked with him Madrid still wanted a considerable fee despite him clearly being passed his best. Nobody was going to pay that and his huge salary. Madrid priced him out of a move. If you compare it to Rooney who was passed his best and also on a huge wage, we asked him where he wanted to go and then worked with that club to put a package together to ensure it happened. Same will now happen with Sánchez. Madrid have never been flexible like that. They just seemed to expect a club to give them 60m and then Bale to take a 50% wage cut by making it abundantly clear he wasn’t wanted.

Madrid made their own bed here, and just like ourselves with Sanchez, now they're having to lie in it.

Surely they could've worked out some sort of a loan situation, whereby they got back at least a portion of the wages?

Otherwise they're going to have to get creative if they want to get rid of him. I'd announce that they were in talks with both Netflix and Amazon about an unrestricted access documentary series. Then casually mention to his agent that "poor Jack Rodwell didn't come off that well from the Sunderland one did he...?"

Either question marks or subpar options

Florentino probably still hoped Bale could turn things around, too

350k/wk is after tax. It's close to 700k pre-tax.
