I understand if people say yes. No real difference between 3rd and 4th and United have been swimming around 5th-8th all season, so 4th would feel like a steal.

Even so, I wouldn't take it now against my better judgement. City and Liverpool are miles ahead but i'd like to be 'best of the rest'. And 3rd would feel like an excellent season under the circumstances. And we should be beating Leicester with our team / their team.

Would you take it?

Yes. Even more yes if it's because we've lost and chelsea have lost.

Define shitload.. I'm intrigued.

Going into the season I would have expected 3rd at worst. I'd take 4th now just to ensure champions league football, but I'd expect Ole to do much better next season especially if hes once again given a lot of money in the summer. We'd have to be right next to the top teams next season or find someone else who can get something out of all the money we spend

Of course I'd take 4th. I'd bite your hands off for it.

Right now the only way I can see us finishing fourth is if Wolves beat Chelsea, and that's a big if.

Excuse me? I’d snap your hand off for a dirge 0-0 draw with Bruno Fernandes missing 6 penalties and Martial missing 3 open goals.

CL football is what matters. Nothing else. We have shown that our team can play football. But can we grind out a result when its needed? A scrappy 0-0 and us finishing 4th will help this squad go a long way mentally. Because for all the wonderful stats and 3+ goal margin records, everything was being done for top 4. We have to get it and that's all that matters.

Yes - although I don't think top 4 is as important as it was 10 years ago and definitely not the holy grail some see it as.

Is there anyone who wouldn't consider this season fairly successful with:
2 semi-finals in the domestic cups
3rd or 4th Place in the League
Worst case scenario : a semi-final in the Europa League ? ( i just cant see us losing the quarter final)

Of course we'd take a guaranteed 4th over a chance of 3rd.
Especially now there's no European qualification round for 4th.

For where we are, champions league is the be all. Simple as that.
3rd or 4th isn't that important this year. It's a nice to have.

Theres no difference between 3rd and 4th, but there's a massive difference between 4th and 5th. So yes, of course I'd take 4th.

"Best of the rest" isn't a thing. Its completely meaningless. And even if it was a thing, best of the rest is City.

Yes, in a flash. We need to be in the Champions League next season.

Why not? There's not much difference. Would anyone actually be bragging for finishing above Chelsea/Leicester?

Yes cause I don’t see ourselves getting a win at Leicester. It’s going to be nervy draw and we are more than capable of conceding towards the end and Leicester are one of the best teams in terms of scoring in the last 15 minutes this season.

3rd and 4th are really the same. Don't think anyone care about this.

Like €3200 profit. Thats alot for me :)
But we have to win the game.
Nice.

As for the OP, I really think we SHOULD get 3rd and expect it. But the real difference between 3rd and 4th is minimal. We still have the EL to complete.

Now, how many expected this question at the beginning of the season? Or how about in January?

The only people who are going to care between the 3rd and 4th positions are those somehow using it as an agenda in a debate / argument to support the manager. The context overall doesn't matter as long as we are playing in Europe next season it's the main accomplishment and Ole will deserve the credit for getting us over the line irrespective of how poor opposition has been etc.

Whaaat :houllier:

You rated our squad that high? Or you did believe in Ole that much?

I still remember most of the caf rated our squad from 5th - 8th (me 6th) at the start of the season. And most had some doubt in Ole, including me.
