Watford Sack Nigel Pearson

Odd decision but Nigel P has appeared somewhat disgruntled for a few weeks now, suggesting something behind the scenes was not as he wanted. He's an interesting character and I thought initially did a great job when he took over. Timing here is odd, maybe there was a blow up over something after the West Ham game (he did accuse some players of being passengers) but am sure we'll have to wait a bit to find out the full story. At this stage of the season, points on the board are all that matter and Watford seem ok unless they concede a boatload in final two, which could happen I suppose. But even then, the others have to gain points, and that's proved a challenge for Bournemouth and Villa all season. Watford seem to have a challenge retaining managers, at some point you have to look beyond the manager and ask what the owners think they are doing.

Fecking madness, no logic whatsoever, what are that board thinking?

It seems like a bad decision but maybe something has gone on behind the scenes that has led to irreparable damage between the two parties.

Wouldn't be a surprise as Pearson got a hot temper.

He strikes me as a horrible bloke, but to sack him just before Bournemouth threw away the chance to really put pressure on them is mental.

They will most likely stay up now.

Watford said:
Watford FC confirms that Nigel Pearson has left the club with immediate effect.

Hayden Mullins, with Graham Stack as his assistant, will take up the position of Interim Head Coach for the Hornets’ final two Premier League fixtures of the 2019/20 season.

There will be no further club comment.

Read The Athletic's piece and appears some disagreement with the owner about the future of the club and also about who Pearson chose to play.

Watford need to be relegated, their constant managerial changes are a joke

I doubt there is much more to this than meets the eye. Watford are a weird club and pull the trigger pretty quickly on their managers when a couple of results go against them. Throw Pearson's brazen nature into the mix and that's probably your explanation for his sacking.

They've been pretty lucky when it comes to avoiding relegation and they'll probably narrowly avoid it again, no thanks to the owners.

It sounds like the club is in an absolute mess behind the scenes.

Apparently Pearson got into a heated argument with the owner after the West Ham game which would explain his sacking.

Even if Watford stay up, they'll be even worse next season unless they get their act together.

I always felt Pearson seems a complete arseh*le

Seems to really fancy himself. I still remember that random incident where he started strangling James Mcarthur.

Seems to think he’s a tough guy and puts on some half-forced posh voice.

Rumours of a bust up (606 caller). Did he beat up a couple of players? Like @RUCK4444 that incident really highlighted a madness in his character.

Intrigued. Would be interesting if he had a "disagreement" with Troy.

Do you know him well? Or are you just a horrible person casting the first stone at others?

He is unsettling when you listen to him interviewed. A very strange character who couldn’t possibly have players at ease.

There is something a bit off about him.

Didn't Pearson fall out with the Derby owner whilst he was their manager.
IMO, this sacking from Watford is more than just results.

Do you have to be horrible to call someone horrible?

Merely an opinion, on a forum full of opinions. Have you quoted all the others who made similar comments after mine?

If as rumoured it's not for on pitch stuff let's talk again. Tell me your opinions then.

He‘s a decent bloke had a few beers with him when he was at Middlesbrough. Bit full of himself, but I can understand how someone who excelled at sports and made a living out of it can be very confident in themselves. But carry on with the oh but the rumours blurb and opinions based zero facts, nor experience.

Pretty shitty to be calling people horrible, when you’ve not actually any hard facts nor experience of encountering them yes. But it’s the Caf so it’s all good eh?
As far as I’m aware it’s due to the owners wanting to dictate who plays in the team, are you saying managers need to have team selections taken out of their control? Does it make him a horrible person for wanting to manage the team, how he sees fit?
How do you even define a horrible term person? Sir Alex wasn’t a bundle of joy and light to work with, does that mean he’s a horrible old man now and it’s fine to post it on football forums as others have the same opinion?

I dare say anyone can be a nice chap for a few beers, and maybe I've misjudged him. But maybe perception is reality in this case.

@Red_toad , any comment to any of these chaps, just from a few posts above? Or just to me?
Seems we all have the same perception of him.

Ah the old group perception thing. No I've not questioned everyone, as life is too short and all that.
Just a random page of comments about him. Just wondered why mine tickled you so much.

So... they didn't even have a replacement lined up?

"Give it Hayden Mullins 'til end o' t' season" with two games left and relegation still very much on is absolutely mental. Pearson must have shat on the owner's desk or something.

Inspired decision. Unless something heinous comes out then I have no idea what they were thinking.

So strange. Wonder will it ever come out in detail why Pearson was sacked at such a weird time.

And his stand in is someone on the coaching staff? Weird.

Anyway they wont be missed.

This looks like a stupid decision. Had Pearson gone rogue? Did he threaten to beat the chairman up? I can't think what would have caused this otherwise.
