Unless you can delete "and Solskjear has won it!" from the memory of millions of true United fans then no, his legacy is well and truly set in stone.

How's your legacy holding up OP?

He would get more credibility at this point if he just resigned. It’s a huge job, he needs to accept he’s not up for it. But he won’t.

No he's a terrible manager but the squad has no one near his ability or desire as a player. He'll remain a legend no matter what happens.

Not sure what you mean by that. I know he's held in incredibly high esteem by fans, players, staff and in general the footballing world. Probably one of the most universally liked men in football.

I just think that by overstaying as manager when it's clear to everyone (including to him) that he's horribly out of his depth he may end up causing more damage to the club.

Hope he manages to do the right thing for both him and the club, as I would hate to see him lose any more respect. I believe he's already had to delete his Twitter account due to the abuse he was receiving.

Did Souness ruin his legacy at Liverpool because he had a hard time there as a manager? I think not so the answer is no. And we all should stick to not creating new threads after very bad (or good for that matter) performances. If you want to bash Ole we have the Ole manager thread.

Meant nothing by it.

Absolutely not, the guy will always be a legend. He took a chance and it didn't work out, simple.

I view him as a completely terrible manager but his legacy as a player will never be affected in my eyes.

Ole the player will always be a Manchester United legend no matter what.

He's been dealt some tough cards this season, losing Herrera, and the board not backing him in the transfer window. Three signings during the whole summer transfer window was very poor from Woodward, when we really needed at least two good midfield players, a striker (a possible right sided attacker, but I can understand waiting for Sancho,) and possibly a left back, but I can understand giving Shaw a chance. Injuries have also played a part, but although I'm a big Ole fan, we just don't look like a team who have a plan (been mentioned before), or coached, like getting Rashford into the near post to connect with those low whipped in crosses from James. Another unfortunate are the missed penalties, and missed chances (Maguire today, Mata and Maguire v West Ham), if we had converted those we could have another possible 5 points (Wolves 2, Palace 1, West Ham 1 Newcastle 1), that would put us level with Chelsea, a completely different scenario. I do fear now for the rest of the season, as the players must be low on confidence, and unless our injured players come back quick, then we are in the mire. Don't think he will resign though, club will wait until all our injured players are back in the team and see how we do then.

So he won't resign. Of course, this tarnishes his legacy, and it should.

Of course it’s partly his fault. He is putting confidence in bang average players thinking they are world beaters.
What other choice does he have? The senior players are shite, the kids can't make the step up yet, so he's screwed both ways. We need 4-5 quality signings, otherwise we are in a relegation battle.

Ive heard a few fans say something in the line of "he stuck out he's leg and the ball hit his leg and went in" so people are cussing but for me he's playing career shouldn't effect he's managerial career if that makes sence. But as a manager I think he's done...

I've said it for a long long time and I will say it again . Pep or Klopp couldn't do anything at United while we have these owners and Woodward running the football side of the club .. I don't blame Ole at all because like most match going fans we seen this coming ... We where weak last year but somehow we still didnt strengthen like we needed . In fact we weakened the squad ... The Glazers have never giving us one single transfer window where we have actually moved forward . They give us half or a little what we need ..

Until we get rid of them we have zero hope of competing.. We can talk about Poch and whoever else to bring them in but nothing will change

Don't believe it will for any fan that followed the club while he was here. As a manager he might be absolute crap but he's still a loved former player.

I feel sorry for fans that think this is Oles fault. Supporting United is like driving a Ford Fiesta and wondering why it doesn't drive like a Ferrari for most of our fans these days.

Nah - he'll be remembered in 2 lights. Player and manager. One won't effect the other.

Absolutely.

This is the man that scored the 2-1 in 1999. From "And Solskjaer has won it!" to "Ole might get us relegated from the PL".

He should resign; it would be a noble act.

Who should he put his trust in then? He clearly wanted more signings in the summer and he was let down by Woodward.

The squad may be bereft of quality but he can't suddenly make it appear out of thin air.

Just like Ole is bereft of quality and he also can't suddenly make it appear out of thin air

All these excuses for Ole and none for Mourinho is really dumb

No.

It's not his fault that he's been over promoted and has been given a job he can't do because supporters and the board got carried away after what proved to be a freak run of results.

When he leaves, which I think we have to hope is sooner rather than later, he can leave with his head held high.

All this does is ruin that magical winning run he had, as most people will unfortunately remember the bad times. Does nothing on his legacy as a player.

If he fecks off soon enough and never talks about his managerial time here again, then no.
Yes, if he starts to give David Moyes style interviews after his sacking it would be difficult not to be pissed about it. Having a case of Ole-fatigue at the moment as it is.

What's this about the board didn't back him? He himself said that he just didn't want to sign any player unless it was a specific player. If he had said get me this player as he is better than what we have right now they would have bought them. There are lots of players around at reasonable prices that's better than what we have now. He is responsible for this mess.

How you perform as a manager has little to do with how you are remembered as a player. Look at Bobby Charlton - one of the best attacking midfielders ever. Most people probably don't even remember he briefly managed Preston. Hasn't harmed his legacy any.

Hopefully now some of these so called supporters will get off Ole's back and get behind him and what hes trying to achieve.

I've never got the talk of "legacy". The past cant be changed and OGS could be the worst manager of all time but his legacy as a player would not be affected at all.

I think this idea that you can't question the manager and still be a supporter is stupid. I've said this repeatedly and no one seems able to explain why this ridiculous attitude shouldnt be laughed at.

“It didn’t seem like you [the media] were expecting this – all the predictions were sixth or seventh,” Solskjær said. “That’s all right. If I’m getting criticised that makes me stronger and makes me believe more in what I’m doing. Please don’t praise me too much because you can become complacent. That’s just the way I’m made.''

I never said the manager, any United manager, shouldnt be questioned, thats a supporters job and right, but the non stop carping Ole's been getting is neither criticism nor productive. And as for wanting him out and installing Pocche whats his name as manager is simply ridiculous. I truly believe Ole will be far more successful than Poch will ever be.
