I personally don't think it is a good signing. If it happens. Not that he is bad player. He is a very good one. But we can't be signing him and then expecting to sign few more squad players we actually need. For the sake of team I think we should be looking at other players when you think about the money he would cost us. We need right players, not "star" player that takes whole budget.
He’s the most “right” player we’ve signed since... Bruno?

Anyway, we’ve had a gaping hole (sorry) on the right flank since Nani, and you’re complaining about us signing the brightest wing talent in the world?
He’s young and English.
He has 20 goals and assists this season alone.
He probably holds a grudge against a certain bald cnut.
He is a possible face of the franchise for a decade, maybe even more.
He’s going to play alongside his personal friends, creating a unique chemistry.

What more could you possibly want? And what would make him more “right” for you?

Leave this thread alone, brother. It’s certainly not good for you to be exposed to this kind of optimism and excitement.

Looks like Sancho deal will be paid in installments £60 mill this year. With some outgoings Sanchéz, Smalling and perhaps one or two more. It’s safe to say Sancho won’t be the only signing.

We probably have another £70 Mill to spend after the Sancho deal. Especially with Sanchéz wages off the book. I guess we’ll sign at least one CB and a CM this window too.

It won’t be a problem finding a backup CB and a CM for that amount anyway.
Need to see full detail of how we will pay it bc the rumored total of £108m is a significant amount. After spending so much the last two windows, it makes me question, where we get all this money from especially when we haven’t been successful on the pitch.

Our transfer activities if this move goes through will most likely be limited unless we make a great amount from the players we sell. I doubt it will be £70m unless the amount you suggested regarding installment is accurate.

Maybe modern football isn't for you if you can't get excited about us signing one of the best teenagers on the planet.
Throwing £100m at a teenage footballer doesn’t get me excited, no. Is that what gets you excited?

I usually wince at record breaking signings but this one is worth it.

He just fits the profile.

As long as he stays on the right.

Erm it’s comes from the fact that we are one of the richest clubs in the world. Our revenues before Covid were one of the biggest for any football club. Woodward did a great job on the marketing side of things over the past few years to continue signing up sponsors and it was absolutely vital for us to secure Champions League so we didn’t lose out on 30% of the adidas revenue for the year.

We need quality not quantity.

Buying 2/3 average players won’t progress us than one star player

Greenwood will mostly be the one to drop to the bench.
Highly unlikely considering his goal per minute stats. Greenwood scored more non-penalty goals than Rashford this season, and Rashford played much more minutes...

Scored more goals per minute than Martial too. And Greenwood doesn’t play on the left

I totally understand that mindset even without Covid19. Think of it as ten years' worth of no right winger signings done at once, plus the fact that he's top two or three in his position in the world.
True, but that’s not to say we haven’t wasted a shit ton of money on glamour signings over the past few years, none of which have worked out. Not saying he’s Di Maria, but it’s a big risk.

There’s actual human beings not excited about this transfer and worried what’s left for other signings.
Must be those Russian bots we hear about.

It's most likely Greenwood initially drops to the bench. I think he will force his way in soon enough though

Every transfer is a risk, to be fair. Buying Sancho is a no brainer right now.

It seems mad that people are genuinely moaning at this signing, an English wonderkid, arguably the best since Rooney.

They're probably moaning on another thread about how we don't compete for the best any more.

Well Said. Would've liked to see some responses when we were signing Ronaldo after seeing some of these on this thread. Price is slightly high but if he stays for a long time we'll more than get our money worth.

At the start of the season I'm pretty sure we'll go on with Sancho-Martial-Rashford as a main lineup. Can't see Rashford being dropped at all, sorry. He's very important for our play even when not scoring imo.

Greenwood might play his own way to main lineup later on. We'll definitely see multiple combination for the attack this season but at the start of the season I'm pretty sure it'll be this.

They want Sarr or Saint Maximin on the right for £50M so we can spend 30M on that Monaco kid, Chuck in Longstaff for 30M and round it off with a bargain John Stones for 30M and they’ll be happy.

No one is advocating for average players. Just good players that wants to play for United and provide competition to our starting eleven. Players like Grelish, Jimenez, Traore, Kubo, Camiviga, Tonali, Ghendouzi, and so on aren’t average players. They are solid players that either have potential and talent or Proven experience and talent that will make our team more stronger. Signing just Sancho will not make us stronger. What happens if he get injured? We are back to the same team with decent backup options.

Who do you think we should be signing then?
There are lot of players that can be bought for less money that can get you quality. As I said, I think he is good player. It is not about that. It is about money we have to pay when there is need for some quality squad players.

Live a little. This is the good stuff.
I'm trying. I would be more then happy if it turns out to be gold.

With right player(s), I mean for the squad as whole. I'm not a person who would be giving that sort of money for just one player when we have other position we have to look at. When it comes to money and buying I'm always sceptical to big transfers. If Sancho signs I hope I'm wrong and he becomes gold for this club.

Optimism and excitement are two things I am right now with things progressing under Solskjaer and the staff.

United is run by competent business men. If they think Sancho is worth whatever we are paying and that we can afford it, I don't care what is the amount we are paying.

This is probably the biggest talent ( bar Martial) we have signed after Rooney. Not sure how people can complain about this
People will always find things to moan about, unfortunately.

Ah Longstaff, who can forget that 50m quoted for him last year! Dreadful.

Surely anyone can see we're making some superb signings, bit by bit now? If they can't I wonder what sport might suit them better.

Then Greenwood plays, now that’s what you call a cracking squad!

He's just 20 years old. Even if our curse hits on and he starts poorly, he'll have plenty of years to develop and improve and eventually come good. I'm pretty sure he'll start firing from the start though so I'm not worried one bit about this signing.

@cyberman, you can order that little United shirt tomorrow for your baby. Congrats to you. :)
Shouldn't be a time that the Caf upper management start thinking about selling its own merchandise, like shirt, hat, mug, etc? Then have one for a baby, and the Caf will get a lifelong Caf user for the next 80 years.

Pre-Sancho, perhaps. But with Jason we get enough of additional creativity, so Greenwood may become a better bet.

That said, certainly all of them will get plenty of game time, and it is fantastic to have any of them on the bench to influence matches
