Sign Sancho and Badiashile, and maybe a quality fullback this summer. If signings don't significantly improve the squad after another season, then consider the sack.

The one thing (probably the only thing) that I like in Ole is that the players seem to be playing with him and trying as much as they can. That is typically a sign of competence, people work better for managers they believe are good. I see it all the time in work, it has happened to me.

Will that be enough? I guess we’ll see and we will have a much better picture one year from now.

Thats incredible achievement winning the Budesliga twice with Liverpool. Some would say almost impossible...
Its is not my fault if you do not know that Klopp won the Bundesliga twice with Dortmund. So it is bleeding obvious that he was someone who had won something of prominence before he came to Liverpool and he had the know how to win big trophies. Just like Fergie won the Cup Winners cup and the league in Scotland with Aberdeen.

It is your reply to the earlier comment to anther OP on how Klopp knew how he wanted to play. Klopp played the same way with Dortmund in winning the Bundesliga. He implemented the same way at Liverpool. Ole has no specific way of playing.

Yeah, lets sack Ole because he's a terrible manager because its his fault we had 20 shots on goal and failed to score from them.

Lets bring back the managers we had before that who used to get us less than 3 shots on goal every game. That was amazing football. Ole is so shit. I mean why is he making us play the best football since fergie left. What's all this attacking nonsense. We need to stop creating so many chances, its not the new utd way. Baffling bull shit in here.
We had 20 shots but only 7 on goal.

Ole may lack big game experience but today’s abject defending is I’m afraid the root cause. Why is Lindelof a starting CB, I’ve no idea. We need a Vidic-Ferdinand partnership at the back. Maguire is decent but he needs an equally rock solid partner. It is Ole’s job to plug those gaps or at least make sure they are addressed at the soonest.

I don’t see us progressing past the CL group stages without bolstering our squad.

I have never wrote in this intimate forum of United fans, because I have a lot of respect. I'm just writing because I saw your manager tonight, in an interview, and he was saying 'his team had three years on average in experience compared to Sevilla.' I'm sorry to say that, but it was a prepared excuse. Prepared even before the match was played.

Welcome to the cafe!

I think OGS point was our team lost their way towards the end, and that was down to collective inexperience. It is an excuse but it’s also true: we lack leaders and guys who know how to win. Compare our squad to the riches you have at Munchen!

What do you think of OGS and his journey so far? How far away is Manchester United from your great team?

That's an interesting observation.

I'm curious, if such comment was made by a Bayern manager after the match, how would your fans take it?

Don’t remember Moyes getting third and us to three semi finals

Not that that’s anything to shout about but progress is progress and we can’t have what we want without it.

Ole will be backed and given at least one more season.

Are you still beating yourself silly to a picture of Poch eh?
If you take off the last 4 games of this season to compare to the Moyes season which Giggs was in charge for the last 4 ganes we had 1 less points under Moyes at the point he was sacked compared to Ole this season,. Moyes also had a league cup Semi and Champions League quarter Final.
I don't think we should necessarily sack Ole but he has been very lucky to get 3rd on such a low points total.

Do me a favour, look through all these signings that Pochettino made for Spurs and tell me which ones you'd want to see at United. There 27 players to choose from, if you say more then 3 I will be shocked. https://www.planetfootball.com/quic...ottenham-have-made-under-mauricio-pochettino/
That list is quite an eye opener, there are some decent names on it, Dier, Son, Alli etc but also some real shockers as well as some I've never even heard of! Who the feck are Clinton N'Jie or Georges-Kevi Nkoudou? but that's 20 odd million quid right there which in Levy's world is a lot of cash to spend!

Over the years I have seen managers come and go even one manager twice, for the most part all have been given time formulate their ideas and bring in the players they need for that to happen. They all have had limited success and when the board have felt that they have reached the end of the line the have been dismissed, with the exception of Sirs Matt and Alex.
Now Ole was brought in when the club was in turmoil from top to bottom, he has brought stability back to the playing side, he has managed to bring players into the club which means that they believe in his objectives for the club which in turn will enhance their playing careers. Can he progress the club I believe that he can and should be given the support of the owners and the fans to do this at least for another season.
However, he will need the assistance of the clubs scouting department to identify players of quality to enhance the present ( for a better picture The present first 11 and 2nd 11) because at present our bench players need improvement. The owners to support financially his requirements but I think the most important factor in the progress of both Ole and the team is a immediate revamp of the coaching staff, because at this present time I do not think that the present coaching staff does not have the ability to take the 1st team squad to the next level.
It’s a very reasoned point of view, no doubt because of the wisdom you have from viewing us since busby. Thank you sir.

The coaching staff also puzzle me. I understand having Phelan around, and get Carricks club connections, but it also seems as though we are missing a Quirez type figure who properly understands the latest fads and trends, which nowadays seem to come from Germany.

He's got the players going and that's really important. the morality and togetherness can be felt even though his squad is a tad short. Regarding depth in quality, he made sure every signing was to be useful. No money was wasted on nothings like Bastian, Alexis, Schneiderlin and Rojo etc. He chopped off the dead wood and set standards to those who wish to play for the reds.

what concerns me is that he doesn't seem to have the wits of an experienced manager in the day of the match. There are tasks he has to be seen doing from the fan point of view. Subs, positive impact in 2nd half and his interference with the game through his body language. Here where his weaknesses are shown.

We HAVE to appoint a new assistant manager with influence. Fergie had his share with the likes of Carlos Queiroz, René Meulensteen and others. He even got that Rangers coach Walter Smith to be his no. 2 when Queiroz left to Madrid for a short period. We need someone who can influence the team during the game through subs, instructions and ironing the little details that can actually win you big games.

on a slight note but I don't know is it me or?

I like the manager who trust his own players but to not react at all that's abnormal. I remember Fergie shouting, cursing and almost getting into Evans' face against A.C. Milan in an away game. Wouldn't that been helpful with how many times we got caught sleeping when we were in a defensive mode. How many times we drooped points/lost matches because of an individual mistake? I'd say a lot.

He needs to be backed this window but he also have to look at his own flaws and rectify them quickly. To not disrupt what good he has brought to the club the board must use their heads and back him up immediately.

Honestly, your club is in a very different stage. I have no simple answer.

I was crying when Franz Beckenbauer was was leaving for New York. I was akid, he was my idol, even though I never saw him playing. Just the TV announcer saying 'And this is the last match we will ever see Franz Beckenbauer play". It was earth shattering.

Yeh. When he had Mata and Matic nose-picking on the bench.

I was pure Ole out but I will be patient one more year..

He made a huge mistake signing Maguire and AWB so let's hope he learns from them going forward.
How so? We conceded 54 league goals last season, this year it was 36, the third best record. Seems like an improvement to me.

Prior Bruno's signing & Pogba's return we played a defensive team with Fred & Matic/McT in midfield and James on the flanks. That helped the numbers considerably. Our defence stats (36 goals) are better then last year (which is only fair considering the upheaval we had) but worse then the three years prior (28, 29, 35). That's after 130m worth of talent bought.

Also helps our manager wasn't trying to sabotage the team for half a season.

Using Mourinho's final 3 months as a benchmark for anything at all is scraping the barrell.

Last season bordered to a sitcom. We had a manager who started the season not wanting to be with us anymore, which followed with him sniping at a random player/board member at the weekly presser. Meanwhile our 50m signing wasn't being played.

Ole came in and did his best to keep the ship afloat but let's not mention last season again. It was a mess.

Of course not nobody in their right mind expected that. Did I expected more points? Yeah I did, but I didnt expected being 3rd so that kind of evens out.

My critique to Ole is not that he's a bad manager, of course he has some remarkable man managment skills, the squad seems happy and some players have improved under him. But he's not special and I think we should aim for special, a revolutionary manager one that can close the gap between us and Liverpool and City, one that can make us challenge for the UCL again.

No manager would do it with the current squad, but I dont think Ole can do it at all. His tactics are very basic and Im still after 18 months not seeing any definitive playing style. Are we a counter attacking team? Are a possession based team? Do we play from the flanks? Do we play centrally? Each game it seems we are out specting some player to do something magic rather than a system being implemented and getting better.

Thats why we have so many patches IMO, of course no team can be consistent the whole year every team has his ups and downs during the season but our up and downs are really marked. We are either playing like were the best team in the league or we playing as if were fighting relegation. We depend way too much on creativity from our players, if they dont produce anything special by themselves the system wont, and thats on Ole.

See Neegelsmann, results aside you can clearly see what Leipzig aspire too. You can see the managers hand in their play, weve been for over 18 months with Ole and I still dont see it. If we bring more quality players of course well get better, but eventually we will face teams with the same if not better quality than us, and then its the managers job to beat the other manager and I dont think Ole is the man that will do it.
I've always maintained that Ole was bought in to sort out a base for who ever will be next manager. Our problems were big and to have LVG and Jose whinging about the task at hand would put any potential manager off. Most like say Poch want to hit the ground running not do 3 year rebuilds.

That said I read your points and if you allow want to pick the bit about the style of play.

Our style of play has been dictated by the players we have. Take our front 2 of Martial and Rashford. Brilliant with back to goal and running with the ball but dire at finding space in the box or even attempting to make little runs. I'm sure some may point to the odd time they have but generally when we are in the final third we don't see many runs being made.

I keep hearing people say AWB doesn't do enough in terms of running to the byline and crossing but I don't think there is any point in him doing so. I mean even on corners we simply aim for McGuire. We don't have the strikers who attack a ball on the air with their heads. If we had a zlatan type player and then sure I would get it.

All this takes time and I think Ole has had to make certain purchases to shore up positions as well as maybe look at a long term plan. Had we for example said right it's going to take 3 years but in those 3 years we will be happy with top 10 then I can see a meltdown from fans.

For me this isnt new either both LVG and Jose made certain signings as they had to get certain positions and attempt to win a trophy. I refer to likes of falcao and schweinsteiger and matic etc.

Ole for me needs to sort out a decent CF for next season because the chances we missed yesterday can be put down as "goalie had a worldie" which I have heard a fair bit this season, or a a class forward outs that away. For me as good as our front 3 have done recently it's the latter.

Just my opinions

He's out of his depth but last night apart from the subs it wasn't on him. We need 3/4 signings. Our depth is poor and ole's signings all have big question marks.

I think we need to use Greenwood as our dedicated CF/ST immediately. He obviously thrives centrally infront of the goal, and is honestly so much more than lethal. Yes, Martial is am excellent finisher, but his legs are as you say way to slow to create room for both him and others in and close outside the box. If we keep forcing Mason as a RW/RAM he won't reach his amazing potential.
I think honestly we should try Marcus at RW and Martial at LW. Or the other way around. I've seen it been done a few times in the games, but I don't see Martial as our striker as the best option.

AWB should try to play CB in my honest opinion, and bring in someone like Fosu Mensah as a RB.
After seeing lindelof saying "f*** you" to Bruno after he failed to mark and defent the cross yesterday, made me so sad and angry.

Pogba and Bruno are the players I love most in the world but they just dont seem to fit together...
my 5 cents for the day

Despite a disappointing result last night I think we showed some positive signs. I did not expect us to be the side playing the better football, but this was the case yesterday. We made 2 defensive errors and Sevilla scored their only 2 chances out of those, but things like that can happen.
Ole has done a good job in several areas and I believe we will look better next season. Of course we need Pogba to sign a new contract and some more quality signings, but there is a good foundation to keep on building.
We will anyway stick to Ole for a while so he gets my full support. I am not sure we are ever going to win a PL or CL title with him at the wheel, but after the past 6 or 7 years of frustration I anyway do not expect this. For the time being I would be happy to firmly reach top 4 the next few seasons, go to the last 8/16 in the CL, play some watchable football and close the gap to the top teams in Europe and England a bit.

Our defence improved after Bruno arrived (from 1.2 goals per game conceded to 0.5 goals per game) so Im not sure that has all that much to do with it. Looking at those other seasons, two of those three we were also very defensive, LVGs last season and Mourinho's first. We scored 12 fewer goals in those seasons. The only season we got the balance better was Mourinho's second season, scoring 2 more and conceding 8 fewer.

Anyway, I'm still not sure how any of this would justify saying that Maguire and AWB were a "huge mistake". That would imply that, at the very least, they'd had little or no impact.

Change what game we had 20+ chances before we had to go to bench.........if you think manager not reacting to bring lightweight Mata who does nothing most games, is the problem.

He not using a playstation controller playing a game. Nearly everything was spot. You saying Mata could change it is guess work at best
We created feck all since like 65th min and it was clear we need subs. I am not saying we would have won the game but waiting so long to make subs when we need a goal is basically giving up.

Things are promising for the future. The team shows progress and a form of football identity.

You recently won the Europa League and have had a lot of opportunities to make it yesterday.

You have been unlucky yesterday but last year you were lucky against Paris Saint-Germain.

This is football

3 years without a title, in which Ole was in charge of two of them. In another club he would be sacked today.
Christ. How can you count the first season? He took over a team completely shot of confidence, that already had no chance of getting 50% of available cups (75% if you include the CL, as it was impossible with that squad).

I’m all up for a debate, but what’s the point if you’re using those kind of examples? When Klopp took over Liverpool he finished 8th and lost in a cup final. Then 4th the next season. Did Liverpool sack him?

We have to improve our squad year on year no doubt, and give Ole best possible 11 so that he can play them week in week out and sit and enjoy from the sideline for full 90 minutes.

Need to sack him. There is no other way to improve our team. The only reason we barely finished third was due to Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal being so crap, having poor squads and inexperienced and in case of Spurs a past-it manager.

With Ole we will never be as bad as we were under Mourinho/Moyes/LvG but we won't be competing for titles too. We will just be filling up numbers.

But there was improvement, there was tactics, we could see attacking patterns, pressing. We are still hugely dependent on individual player skill to pull us through, our passing is still average, pressing is not that good, we are not good under pressure also.

I was under the impression that it’s been long proven and accepted that it’s stupid to compare points tally’s across seasons. I guess some still don’t realise how silly it is.

Comparing points across seasons while ignoring the context of the respective seasons you are comparing is stupid.

Moyes season and solskjaers aren’t comparable. Ole has did infinitely better on almost every conceivable level.

My concern that Ole and the Utd board are not a good match, he’ll need to buy super strong team to compete due to the lack of game management.

love the harmony, love the clearing out of deadwood and the freedom given to players but I don’t see any real tactics or attack patterns. It’s more just get the best 11 out there and we’ll see what happens

We’ll be back to square one next season if reinforcements aren’t brought in, no way will the top 4 points be so low again

Yet we still finished third. And played more than half a season without Pogba and Bruno.

I’m not going to say Ole is the long term answer. I don’t think what we’re doing in training is translating into games well. But he’s done plenty to give him another go next year. It’s embarrassing how short our squad is compared to City, just look at the full back options compared to us, that probably cost us the game last night.
