If the price for any other club is around the 30mil mark then the Manchester United tax will bring it up to about 40mil and if we are prepared to pay it then IMO that slams the door shut on the Sancho saga.

It doesn't shut the door on anything.

We need reinforcing, it's unlikely that Mata,Lingard,Pereira are going to feature for us next season and it's been widely stated that we need at least 3 players. He's a good young player with bags of ability and pace so rather than spunk 70million on Grealish, he should be looked at.

The talks with BD are ongoing so that deal isn't closed

Whilst I do rate Brooks we should be focusing on getting better starting players. Can’t see this happening unless we sell some of our fringe players ie Lingard and Co.

Yeh is there anybody credible at all linking us with him aside from Sportswitness?
This whole thing is bizarre. Sport Witness just analyze transfer reports and tell you whether they're BS or not. They've never reported anything from their own sources before (that I know of) but everyone's treating them like they're the BBC.

I like David Brooks, only just turned 23, not the “name” some will want but skill full and tricky, I think he could be quite a clever buy.

He looks quality, he’s got vision a good pass, looks tricky in the box. He’s prem proven. £30mil - it’s not my money but he’d be better than linguard and on less wage wise. Let’s move some deadwood on and bring him in. Can’t really see a negative in this tbh.

Would be a pretty harmless signing

Not the marquee type signing like Sancho that we all crave, but not all signings can be like that,

We need better quality around the squad to displace: Lingard / Periera / Mata.

Brooks doesnt mean the end of RW or the Sancho pursuit, i'm seeing this as a signing regardless.

Brooks may feature at RW, but i dont think we would be signing him purely for that position.

I;d take brooks for 30 over Grealish for 80 thats for sure!

Would be a good signing if the price was low enough, anything above 30 and its not worth it

Oh they don't play for our big team so they are great, that's the feeling I'm getting around here and the same people would be up in arms if Liverpool signed him and he turns out great.

A sidenote Coman would be a starter for us
Agreed. It’s ridiculous. People have unrealistic expectations on squad players. Half of Liverpool’s team were signed from mid table clubs.

I don’t agree that Coman would start for us, however.

Feels like a Mane signing to me, good player who could make a step up. Fitness would be a concern though.

I have a bad feeling about this window. Getting linked to players left right and centre only to be immediately dismissed is not an indicator of a productive window.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
For the price of Grealish we could add VDB and Brooks. Ole’s comments about the squad not being strong enough, refusing to bring on Lingard/Pereira or any changes at times when chasing a goal and the constant briefings about how this summer is huge for us make me think we’re serious about getting rid of the deadwood and bringing quality in. I just don’t think he’s the type to demotivate those players like that if they were staying. We’ve made it obvious to the world that he doesn’t rate them.

Does anyone here think that if we bought Sancho last week for 100mil that we would be looking at Brooks?

Hardly a reputable source is it? Strettynews for fecks sake! What a load of nonsense. It might be true, but they know less than nothing.

Maybe not but such is life.

I'm fairly sure that had Brooks not got a long term injury Bournemouth wouldn't have been relegated.

No harm signing players from relegated teams. We signed Keane from a relegated team. Went pretty well...

Does anyone think that Brooks would be better than Greenwood in scoring more goals for us.

Pretty sure we were looking at him before that. But would we have the money to consider signing Brooks as well? Doubt it. I'd imagine if we spend £100 million on Sancho we'd be looking at players around £15 million to finish our transfer business this summer. He'll cost more than that

No but for arguments sake let’s say he gets a knock and is out for a few games.

Who would you bring on as back up?

Mata, James, Periera, Lingard?

No. He's more likely to create for others. Greenwood is a born goalscorer. If he keeps playing wide right Greenwood will soon be compared to Salah and Mbappe as a wing forward. His numbers will justify it. Mark my words.

Exactly.

Anyone doubting Brooks as a squad option is underestimating his ability. That said, as an alternative to Sancho, I don’t think it makes sense....and I can’t see us buying both.

I think if we bring brooks in it will be as a Sancho replacement, presumably with the intention to strengthen other positions such as midfield and CB, in place of spending 120m on Sancho.
Nah, or at least if he is brought in as an immediate Sancho replacement it is with an eye on getting the latter next season.

What's more likely, is that such a move will have an impact on the move for Grealish as they are similar profiles of player and Brooks would better suit a squad role with the ability to progress further.

I'd have more faith in SportWitness than StrettyNews tbh

I wouldn't lose sleep over this one guys, decent squad player but this window we must strengthen the starting 11.

Sorry mate, do you really think that Sancho would be available to United next summer, if we can't manage to thrash out a deal this summer, when United are the only buyers..?
As far as Sancho goes, its now or never.
It depends if the player wishes to join us over anyone else or not, I suppose.
