Who out of our current squad gets into this Bayern lineup?

I think there are plenty who would be in with a shout actually. Pogba, Fernandes, Greenwood, Martial, Rashford (at his best) wouldn't look out of place at all.

They are a more functional team than us and have more players who can control a game but the significant difference is the players they have on their bench blows ours out of the water.
This whole thread actually shows the value of a manager/coach. Do you guys remember how they were under Kovac? This thread would not have been anywhere near the same at that time.

Agree abt the bench btw.

I was thinking about that actually. Who on United's bench would replace anyone in Bayern's bench? Not that their depth has won Bayern these last few games though.
Fred is the only one I can think of who might. Even then it isn't conclusive.

Probably a fair comment. Still, it helps to be able to bring on players of the calibre of Coutinho and Coman as they did against Barcelona.

Fred over Tolisso and Javi Martinez? Funny.

People who think Maguire, Pogba and Bruno are better than Boateng, Thiago and Muller seriously lack objectivity. Literally none of our players get in.

Maybe Martial ahead of Coman if we pretend his current form translates to lw but it won't.

Off topic but United should aim at and strive to win couple of champions leagues in this decade. Not too long ago United were equal to Barca and Bayern in number of Champions League wins. We really need to close the gap. It looks far off right now but anything can happen in football.

Pogba doesnt get in, he doesnt have Muller grit and passion.
Muller keeps his place, since its all about German efficiency. Bruno, as talented as he is, wastes a lot of balls

Maguire over Sule
Pogba over Muller
Sule is a better passer than Maguire. And more agile imo.

And I think you underestimate Muller quite a lot. He's not a fancy player with showboating moves like Pogba but his role is very crucial to how Bayern plays. His style is simple but very smart, very accurate, very effective and he offers a lot of energy, leadership and determination.

P/s: imo only Martial and a top form Rashford would play in that side. Martial atm is not far from Lewan and a top form Rashford is on the same level with Coman I think.

None. They’re the best team in the world. Bruno is unlucky and will surpass Muller in the future, but not just yet. Besides, Muller is more functional in this Bayern 4-4-2. Mason looks like he would suit this system and if everything goes well, he’ll become better than Coman, but not yet.

Btw, where did the Maguire suggestions come from? And better than Sule/Boateng? He’s too slow for that high line and isn’t even anywhere near those two as pure defenders.

More interesting question is, with our current squads who would finish higher, Bayern in the Premier League, or United in the Bundesliga??
Bayern, because they’d win it. We’d have a chance in the Bundesliga if we swapped places with Bayern, but we probably wouldn’t win it as Dortmund have Sancho and Haaland.

Bayern players look better because they have a system that augments them. Kinda like the opposite of us even though we are getting better in this regard. That is something that is easy to overlook when making an apples for apples comparison. I'm pretty confident if we bought someone like Muller for e.g we will have people calling him overrated and a fraud.

Agreed that their system is great and play to the strength of their players but imo you overlooked a bit the fact that their players are all great ballers.

For example if we put AWB or Williams into that system and imo it wouldn't work like it did yesterday.

Their system requires all their players to know how to keep the ball under pressure and pass with almost astute accuracy. Imo it works like a great machine where everything is about speed and accuracy. One bad gear would screw the whole machine. The opponent would focus to attack that bad one repeatedly and even one mistake gonna be really costly.

Even with Kovac and Ancelotti the striker and right winger were having much improved numbers when they played him behind Lewy and that did not cost us anything in the defensive record... - but yes, that is not what people see but the normal individual skills... But there was good reason why van Gaal wanted him.

Flick went back to the positional system that van Gaal implemented at Bayern and Heynckes and Pep later on build on. He pushed Alaba, Kimmich and Müller into the central axis, gave them more responsibilities and like that could implement a functioning and balanced pressing and passing system that got lost with Ancelotti and Kovac...

Would we consider sacking manager who just won double?
In the PL no. In the BL if you are making decisions for Bayern Munich and the performances and results have been worse than in the previous seasons, then yes.

How good is Javi Martinez these days? Tolisso is the one where it's more up for debate.

Boateng has been finished for a long time. He's nothing special at all anymore.

Javi is probably leaving this season. Boateng played a really good season - some should take in account that usually Pavard plays right back and that brings a different symmetry into the Bayern match with Phonzy able to be more attacking whereas Pavard/Boateng/Alaba are more a back 3. But Süle already is back and next season it will be an Alaba/Süle pairing. Hernandez then will get more match time, too. Bayern needs another right back - that is one of the transfers they still have to do. There is 5 players next season that can be good center backs as Pavard and Hernandez can play both positions.

well, its not only about how skilled a player is but also how much of a team player he is.
such a high line is team effort. and you saw that it works with a real team.

yea but that goes both ways, they also tend to have a system where if there is a turnover of possession they can recover it quickly. The system is what makes even limited players look good and hide their limitations. E.g you wouldn't find people complaining about awb's lack of skill in playing the ball out if there was a better strategy in getting us advancing up the pitch. As a result it affects our shape when in possession.

Kimmich’s probably the best RB in the world. Müller is a winning machine with 2 goals and 1 assist in the semi against Barcelona, don’t know how people can even consider take him out of that Bayern team. First name on the teamsheet I would say.
Coman has won 20 titels and is 24 years old. The list can go on and on.

No one in this United team goes straight into Bayern first XI.
Some players would arguably go into PSGs first XI though. Their back four is pretty shit. I don’t rate Bernat, Kimpembe or Kehrer tbf. Paredes/Herrera not so much either.
Pogba, Bruno, Maguire, AWB, Shaw straight into PSG first XI i would say.

I apologize my bad. They are not the first ever. Just undefeated CL champions.
They're the first team to have won the CL with a 100% record: they won all their games in the competition this season.

Of course they played fewer games than the winners normally do, thanks to covid.

Well, we had a lower points per game than five Bundesliga teams in 2019/20. And considering we struggled the most against teams in the lower half of the table I don't think we could have won the league in Germany. I expect we'd finish third behind Dortmund and Leipzig.

I actually think no player would make it into Bayerns first eleven. Maybe Martial for Coman. Seeing people saying Maguire > Süle.... who is basically a faster version of Maguire ( many don't know, but Süle is one of the fastest player in the Bundesliga as a CB ) with better passing.

But who cares ? why compare Man Utd to Bayern. The recent performances were really promising and with the solid defence Manchester looking on track to become a top team again. Although 2/3 new players will be needed, a really good base is finally given.

It's because they pressed like crazy. And they rarely lost possession in their own half. Maybe only like 2-3 times in the last match I think. Their back four and midfielders were nearly perfect in this regard.

And imo no limited player would play in that system, maybe except their wingers. At least in this big a match, maybe with a much lesser opponent they can.

As far as I know there's basically two ways to bring the ball out from the back. Either you hit it long (Jose style) which requires at least a really good in the air forward/midfielder.

Or you build out from the back with short/medium passes which requires basically all players to be good ballers, including the keeper.

Before the current trend of high pressing you can build from the back with limited players but now it's really dangerous to do so with limited players against teams who can do high pressing. One mistake, one bad pass and you can be very well screwed.

For us, imo Ole should drop that building from the back stuff against teams who can do high pressing. At least until we can find a better DM and a better RB, or AWB would magically turn into a decent baller.

2021 Mason Greenwood gets in. Bruno, Pogba, Maguire, pre-injury Rashford.

Bayern Münich is the best team in the world now. Team. Individually there are several players there that are going to get rudely undressed on a less talented team. But as a unit they are unstoppable.

Kingsley Coman warms the bench for Manchester United, to name one.

I'd say the only debate could be
Pogba/Fernandes over Muller
Or Martial/Rashford over Gnabry/Coman

Tough to even argue those though.

Just goes to show how far our lineup and squad still is off competing in Europe and the Champions League.

Who else gets in?

Neuer
Kimmich Sule Alaba Davies
Thiago Goretzka
Gnabry Muller Coman
Lewandowski

You know it will be depressing to think we dont have too many players to get into this team but still you are asking this.

We are bit far away at this moment and we can only hope the gap will be reduced in future.

I would love it if we have 4/5 players who can walk into most of the teams in this world and right now we cant say that we have it.

Bruno has only played at the highest level for half a season.

No idea why he's so highly rated to the point where he'd displace Thomas Muller.
Because he’s a better player than Muller

Possibly current Martial for Coman. Martial seems on that level right now to slot right in.

As a group the fitness discipline and for some the technical ability is not there. Hopefully we can keep building into a strong team carrying less passengers but that will come from the manager to organize this and if Ole can't do it like Kovac we're not the type of club to act as fast as Bayern. We've been going through the motions since Fergie left but in 2-3 years we have potential to be pretty good.

Can't see any argument for Bruno over Muller but its probably not the best time to have that discussion while the novelty factor is still prevalent

It's a long old season in England and there are more teams in England that would give Bayern a game, home or away, if they are not bang at it, and Greenwood, Martial and Rashford would have a field day in Germany as the standard of defending across the board is probably as low as it has been for years.

Yay,another sh*t on Manchester United player thread.
No I don't think so. It seems no one called our player sht yet. Saying our players are worse than some of the best in the world is not calling them sht I think.

Agreed, but Sancho, Reus and Haaland would think the same. Still think they’d just pip us without Bayern providing a mental block and them having the experience of playing those teams week in week out. As for Bayern, they’d win the PL purely because they’re the best team in the world, and have just had one of the best seasons of all time.

Have to disagree with @Siorac though, we’d wipe the floor with Leipzig and finish miles above them. Take away Werner’s 26 BuLi goals, and I don’t even think they’ll finish top 4 next year, coming bottom of their CL group in the process.

I think let’s flip the question? Who would you take in our first 11? For me, honestly, it’s only these:

Neuer
Davies
Kimmich

I just don't know what to do with myself
Although Bayern squad is full with class, I don't think their superiority translates directly to their players being much better. I think the belief and atmosphere surrounding the club is much better though. Ole has mentioned many times he wants to improve the culture at the club and I think the importance if this can not be overstated. This will not be fixed with one or two transfers and I'm not sure it can be achieved properly with the current regime.
