All this loan Daniel James out stuff, he's not good enough. I'd sign Brooks and unload Daniel James, what good is a loan at 23 when you're clearly not good enough.
Too confirm that he's not good enough obviously...

We could cut our losses and sell him though I'd like to see him abroad, Germany, to see how he does

Bournemouth saying today he can go for £35m, if part of it is add ons, Brooks is worth a shot. He's a decent player who would add depth and has the potential to improve playing aside better players.

Can't we give them some players on loan as part of the payment ?

Which of your players would really want to go on loan to the Championship?
They did want to loan Garner in fairness but that’s not going to cut any money off a deal

We should take a leaf out of Bayern’s book and if we really want the likes of this lad or longstaff either go for them before they go pro or get them to run their contract down to the last year. Maybe that’s why Ed is giving squad players big money so potential squad filler players will want to come here on a free. Paying 30-40 million for squad punts isn’t good business. Our academy should be bringing though players as good as brooks anyway and surely there are better 23 year old players out there for 35 million.

James needs a change of position honestly.
We should really try him at RB.
He's far too small and weak to play any defensive position for me. He's gets sent flying through mid air after ever 50/50 hes involved in.

For 35 million he's a horrible signing. A half decent player completely unproven at the top level . If you could pick him up for a Dan James price then maybe not no chance at 35 mil

There is no way we're spending 35 or 40 million on him. They're relegated, it's an economically depressed market, he's been injured almost a full season, he's not amazing. If he was being linked with anyone else, the figure bandied about would probably be 15 or 20m.

25 million with 5 mil add-ons, sell Lingard for 15-20 million and you have a nice option in those attacking positions.

We desperately need more options on the bench and Ole’s decisions post break highlighted it.

Have a feeling we'll wait till the last day or 2 of the window before making any bids.

Brooks is a significant upgrade on Mata/James/Lingard. Tahith Chong is being tipped for big things, so i'm thinking we might take Brooks to cover Bruno and the wing positions and then 1 year down the road perhaps Chong is ready to be our starter on the right wing.

anyone reckon Brooks could improve to be better than peak lingard? I think he’s pretty good but I doubt it. On his best known form he’s a squad player for top 6.

I must be one of the only people on this forum who rates Brooks judging by these comments. Think he's brilliant, absolute livewire with great technique, really enjoyed watching him in 2018/19. Injury was extremely unfortunate though, would be a risk to take him on for 35 mil plus not knowing if he'll get back to his best. Would've been a far better buy than James last summer though.

Peak Lingard? Come on. He had a purple patch in an otherwise average team, I’d hope we’re going for players that peak a lot higher than that.

You're not, I think he would be a great squad player. Agree with others though 25 million max given his injuries.

Add to that their best player only went for 40 million.

You're not. I'm a very big fan of Brooks. Offers us something different too, being a playmaker from out wide, something we've lacked since Mata has aged. His passes into the box when he finds space in the channels would be great for Rashford and Greenwood in particular, who aren't and probably never will be creators. They work best when serviced as they are goalscoring wide players.

I think most of the frustration comes from the fee itself and the fact that he's very clearly a downgrade from Sancho. He operates in similar positions to Sancho too, so it may well be the case that it's one or the other.

I honestly think he should just be Rashfords under study at LW, play the cup games and come on off the bench and see how he does.
Even as an understudy, I doubt his credentials. I love Dan as he seems a great lad, but the current Rashford needs someone to push him rather than act as backup until he finds the form we know he is capable of again. With James, Marcus will know he is a far superior player and that he has the allowance of a few bad games without any chance of him getting dropped.

As for Brooks, I’d buy if it’s for a reasonable fee along with Sancho while loaning or possibly even selling James. He can act as a solid backup RW and backup AM, and Greenwood can become Martial’s understudy (his natural position) as Odion harshly moves to third choice.

What a demoralising transfer this would be after all the top tier players we've been linked to.

Brooks is a far better footballer than Lingard ever was. He has been coasting on that purple patch for years now. The Lingard of the last few years is his level. He isn’t trusted and that mwans he isn’t an option.

Ole needs to look at the bench next season and see some players who te worth bringing on. I think Brooks would be a nice addition.

It wouldn’t be £35m, it’d be more like £20-25m with £15m of add-ons. And if he hit those targets then he becomes worth it. He’s easily worth £20m in the current market so could be worth a punt.

I'm guessing they are youth players?

Very unlikely that Bournemouth will knock any dosh off for a couple of kids on loan. Loan fees for kids at that age are tiny/non-existent. Usually just a contribution to wages.
Not that they'd necessarily go for it, but TFM would be a good Ake replacement in the championship. I think he should move to CB.
