I don't disagree that Dagbladet is a shit paper.
But there is a little bit of a jump in certainty needed for a tweet on journo's own page to writing about it on the website.

Thiago isn't a huge name in Norway, so they don't need to rush with that info. Their target demographic care more about reality drama.

They haven't even mentioned VdB anywhere either, and that seems to be a safe bet now.

Again, not saying I think it's a sure thing, but I believe we have inquired about Thiago and are in with a shout.
Thiago is a huge name in football, and also in Norway, especially when you combine it with Manchester United.
If there was anything to it they certainly would have mentioned it. I'd put a wager on it being absolute bullshit.

As for Van de Beek, did you even check?
ABC
Nettavisen
United.no
Adressa
VG
Dagbladet

For comparison, the only ones mentioning Thiago and United together since 2013 is liverpools norwegian fanclub.

With a midfield like that, I'd expect the other team to be doing most of the chasing tbh.
Absolutely. And Thiago is significantly younger than Matic too.
With him, we will have an abundance of options, much better depth and improvement in starting XI. Also we will be able to sell any one of Fred or McTominay as they will be surplus to requirements

Wtf are you on about

How many are you watching Goretzka? "Thiago only can work in DM if he had Goretzka sit next to him" and "Pogba needs to sit back deeper if he plays with Thiago, we'd get overturned if Pogba is too offensive mind" "Bayern have Muller who help out defensively and is pressing machine"

Goretzka is more offensive-minded with his positioning than Pogba, Thiago has to dictate the game on his own because Goretzka wasn't capable of doing this, he's more box to box player, that won't be the case with Pogba, he can share with Pogba in passing duties. Pogba doesn't gamble often to try to stop players around the box, he only closes the passing lane and cut it off where they are unlikely to pass in behind us, he is very good defensively for us. Unlike Goretzka, Pogba can dribble better and can escape tight space with his dribbling and use his physical so well to draw foul or beat them and his passing is top tier.

We have Bruno who can help out defensively and always press all game.

You also ignore the fact that we were playing with Fred most of the time as DM because of his passing duties and dictating from the game which Ole want from him. Thiago is an upgrade on Fred, he is more much better defensively and a better passer.

Do we need Thiago? Yes, we do. Thiago could give us greater control combing with his creativity + passing and is one of the most pressing-resistant midfielders in the world and improve us instantly when playing out from the back. Once Thiago beat the pressing player with his dribbling, we bypass their midfield so we can move the ball faster to launch attack before they get back to their position defensively. So that means they are less likely to press us from the back with Thiago - Pogba in a double pivot. Their option is to give us greater control in midfield to win the battle or try to stop us that'd leave them more vulnerable to attack.

I want us to get Thiago, I really don't want Thiago going to Liverpool.
You're forgetting Kimmich, who is the lynchpin when played in the middle,
Goretzka is the real engine behind Munich's midfield, Thiago keeps things ticking, he doesn't dictate the play on his own, that's revisionist history.

If Fred does end up going on loan this makes a lot more sense, as it'll give us two players in each position of the midfield.

Pogba/McTominay
Bruno/VdB
Thiago/Matic

Suddenly we will have one of the best midfields in the world.

Will be plenty of game time for everyone as well. Have to remember that we won't be playing Europa anymore where the midweek games we can afford to play with lesser players - we need to compete in every game and this gives us a silly amount of options in midfield.
Yeah I could only see us being realistically interested if he's actually open to the move and Fred either leaves permanently or goes out on loan somewhere

Well I accept I was wrong then, about VdB. Was only talking about Dagbladet since they were the relevant party here. I go to their website once or twice a year. And when I looked now I couldn't see any articles, nor anything referring to transfer speculations ala that sports center you linked me to. Only on my phone so their website is probably even more shit there. I also checked their twitter just in case, but felt confident that they hadn't ran with it yet.

When I checked all they really have is Norwegian league stuff, Northug/Johaug/Maguire drama and Messi speculation. While Thiago is a big name in football I was arguing that compared to their other content it didn't seem to fit their target demo.

As for the others I only really check VG (for general news) and United.no, I knew United.no had at least. I don't live in Norway right now, so I miss out on a lot of normal stuff.

Anyway, like I said, I still think there's a chance for Thiago, I mean why wouldn't we at least investigate when he's available. pool seems unwilling to spend money at all, maybe their owners feel it's not necessary since they have been dominating (though not after restart).

Wouldn't make sense now with DVB signing. In the formation we employ he would be in the Pogba role.
And if he stayed injury free for 6 months he’d be preferred to Pogba by at least half the fan base...doesn’t get caught on the ball leading to goal scoring opportunities anything like Pogba. Who strangely some people want to see playing as a DM to replace Matic in some games. Terrible position for his skill set.

Maybe there might be a change of formation if we do get Thiago. James is the only professional winger at the club.

Rashford - Martial (Greenwood, Ighalo)
Bruno (Jesse)
Pogba (Thiago)----VDB (Scott)
Matic (Fred)
Shaw---Mag---Lindelof---AWB

Can't see him being on our radar if we sign DVB.

Age profile also doesn't seem to fit with the other signings since Ole came in.

Undoubtedly a very good player.

I doubt United could acquire VDB, Sancho, Thiago and Upamecano in one window.

If they did it'd be on par with Chelsea's business, who are the best in the window by far currently.

Upamecano just extended, Sancho's not leaving anymore.

Thiago would instantly be our best player.

With all this talk that Fred could be going on loan, could that potentially leave room for Thiago?

Thiago, Pogba, VdB, Bruno, Matic, McTominay

If we start making moves for Upamecano and Thiago in addition to VDB, then it is a sure sign that we have abandoned any hope of signing Sancho.

It would surpass Chelsea's business considering where the two teams would line up at that stage.

Even if Fred is leaving, we cannot fund all of those deals.
We can sell few players to generate money and then bank on not having to buy next season. Or only if Pogba leaves for big fee.

If we really want too then surely we can afford even in Covid times.

It's not like each deal is structured to be paid now also.

I remember watching him in the U21 Euros. He was the next Mata, was gutted we weren't in for him then. Haven't really watched him much since.

Player sales.
We rarely make significant sums that way, least of all this summer, when clubs are mostly being cautious until the financial hit from COVID-19 is known.

Who do you propose that we sell and how much do you expect them to fetch in this climate?

The reliable @JanAageFjortoft on this story, speaking with @LaurensJulien on ESPN

“Yes, Man Utd want Thiago. That is absolutely true. They are still in the market for him. Everybody thinks it will be Liverpool, but we thought that about Timo Werner and now he’s wearing blue.”

Could this be why Galatasaray keep trying to get Fred. The only explanation to them persisting with trying to sign him is if we made him available.
