Isn't that what near enough every signing gets ? 5 years plus an optional year.
4+1 is the usual length, but I guess with Donny being 23 there's no harm giving him another year. That'll take him to 29 which is usually a good time to either sell or renegotiate.

Is 100k our basic starting salary? Can't recall the last player that signed for us or renewed his contract for less than 100k a week.

VDB primarily plays that role for Ajax so it makes sense.

Bruno/VDB
Pogba/McTominay
Matic/Fred

Sell Lingard, Pereira and Mata (free release).
Yes but the way the quote comes across, it sounds like Ole wants to use him in his team now as a number 10, i.e. as a starter. I was just saying that we have a good starting number 10 already.

Times reported his alternative career choice to being a footballer was being a Chicken farmer like his father was. Another fun fact.

Is he any good? I haven't watched the CL in a long time or watch Ajax play in their league. Is he a number 10 or a box to box. I remember Everton signing Davy Klaassen on the back of a good season with Ajax and that turned out to be shite. Is van de Beek much better than Klassen?

Some Ajax fans did a big write up on VDB and Klassen a few pages back, really good stuff. Go back and have a read

He is much better than Klassen. VDB is a player that goes under the radar alot.

He may not be your box office name player but what he brings to a team is worth alot. His biggest asset is spacial awareness, which means he won't be getting attracted to the ball, rather he will sense space and attack it.

He is 10 that can play box to box because he has all the attributes you need, he is a good passer, good touch, good at pressing, tackling and has a very good engine.

I wouldn't be surprised if he starts big games for us.

As much as everyone here thinks we’re the dregs of League 2, our name actually holds some weight in the rest of the world.
I don't understand why some fans don't think we can attract players.

1. United don't normally go for the Neymar, Mbappe players anyway.
2. Manchester United is a big name in football.
3. Wage - Manutd are one of the best payers in football
4. Squad - If players look at the young squad we are developing, some would be excited
5. PL - the opportunity to play in the PL

DvdB is what the Dutch would call a midfielder always looking to make runs deep. He has very good basic technical skills (as you would expect from a player developed at Ajax), but he’s not known for his passing ability. At Ajax he plays behind the striker and relied on the crosses from Ziyech in particular. Similar to how Scholes was at the beginning of his career. He would work well as a midfielder in a 3 man midfield with 1 midfielder sitting in front of the back 4 and DbdB further up the field. I think he has similarities with Fernandes, so that’ll make us less reliant on Fernandes. I think DvdB is more suited to the EPL than La Liga because of his physical abilities and because he likes to make those runs. In terms of mentality he is an excellent choice: very hard working and humble. Very much a fan favourite at Ajax. All in all he adds great depth to our squad and midfield.

The Athletic are reporting that, Real Madrid had him signed and sealed for this transfer window for 50 million pounds (including add ons), but United, Barca, Arsenal and Spurs all kept in contact. Real pulled out at the beginning of August due to lack of cash. VdB decided where to go instead after speaking to Ole directly who impressed him. Also helped by VdS, Blind and Bergkamp, but mainly down to Ole. Also according to the article you got him for 40 million pounds including add ons, so 10M cheaper than Real had already agreed.

I like Daley Blind, people said he was meh, average, etc. But he was capable of playing as a CB in the PL and did good there despite of his limitations. Also had Lukaku in his pocket in several occasions. Very intelligent player who always speaks highly of United. You just can't hate him.

We should never have got rid to be honest. We had gaping holes in our back line and Blind was smashing it for Ajax there.

Is that such a noteworthy thing considering Lukaku's non-existent performances against bigger clubs ?

I agree, his positioning makes up for what he lacks in strength. I blame Jose.

Not that one but he was supposedly much stronger than Blind and faster. Everton version of Lukaku seemed to be stronger and faster than the one at United, at the time. I remember people posted in the match day thread that Blind was going to be bullied by Lukaku and it ended up the opposite. That's why I remember it.

He was shortly with us but I like him very much too and remember fondly his playing time. Nice work by VDS to in the whole story. I like Ajax, unlike those cnuts down at Dortmund.

I'd be lying if I said I knew loads about him but after 5 different highlight videos with mostly awful music I can say he looks class

One thing I noticed is that he always tends to take the right option, but obviously that would be the only thing shown in a highlights of goals and assists.

There are a few youtube videos where you can watch clips of all his moments vs Real/Bayern/Juve/United etc. It gives a better reflection - some cons I found is he can be a bit wasteful at simple passes, I don't think his range is as good as touted in best clips and he seems to draw a few annoying fouls by over pressing.

One of our head offices is in Uithoorn which is just by Amsterdam. Lot of the guys are Ajax fans and season ticket holders in the office. They all rave about this kid and are saying we got him for nothing. Good on the ball, good on the press. He is not small by any means, can play in any midfield role, technically excellent, good stamina and times his runs in the box at the right time.

Whoever thought he was meh or average needs to watch more football, he was one of our best technical players and had he still been at United now, he still would've been one of our best technical players.

Hopefully he wins the battles he's having with his health, great player.

He will be much better than Herrera in terms of advancing the ball. He is much better scorer. I loved Herrera but VdB is a much much better player. He will be great as a starter and he will be able to back up both Bruno and Pogba. Something that Ander could never do.
I hope he ends up better than Herrera, who had great potential but was mismanaged. Ultimately I'm very happy we are finally addressing the engine room of the team, and can't wait to see how VdB combines especially with Pogba, Bruno and Fred.

He is extremely functional with none of the flair, which is indeed a bit like Herrera but he is an entirely different player. His value is as a goalscoring midfielder who'll likely spend more time in the opposition box than Martial and Rashford put together.
I'll concede to you guys that have watched him more, any additional support for our highly talented and youthful attack is music to my ears.

"Big,big star" who doesn't feature regularly for his National team.Hmm,abit of over-hyping there,Kav.
Bit of a weird take.

Holland have played 8 times in the last year. He's played in 5 of those, missed two with injury and was on the bench for the other one.
