Was Sanchez our worst ever transfer?

Nothing much to see here. The guy has a massive ego and can't accept that he's past it, so here come the excuses as to why he was such a humiliating failure here. There maybe is an element of truth about the club having a toxic atmosphere at that time, but still.

Why we signed him is beyond me.
He suddenly became available, as City ditched him. Woody became giddy. A big player was in the market and he had the money to throw.
And just like that, he came.
Seems like us or Sanchez, both didn't give much of a thought and just signed.

Didn't you read his full quote? He put a good chunk of the blame onto himself...

Ole has said this before that he doesn't want any a holes in the team. First thing he did after joining was to let go those characters. Of course each party will say they are right others were wrong. And there are two sides of such stories. But the fact is he really stank up the field whenever he played. Which manager will mollycoddle him?

Jose made him practice at LB
I doubt it though. The club (or Jose) threw Martial from the position and gifted it to Sanchez. If nothing, it was a public show that he was the bigger star and more important guy.

Just did. What the hell happened in a week after he arrived that he wanted out imidiately.
It’s bollocks. Jose supported him completely. Played him every game and pretty much ended martial’s career for Sanchez. He says something about the dressing room not being United or a family, he’s the one that has been called distant by arsenal players and staff.

I think he was expecting the team to be built around him and when he realised United was more cut throat than arsenal he couldn’t handle having to fight for it.

He just couldn’t handle being at a big club with big expectations

Yeah a bunch of bs basically. Fantastic how he said a similar thing which Lukaku said who apparently wanted put after one game.
Tossers both of them.

Must have the same PR guy.

Thing is, everyone can see it’s BS, especially for Lukaku who was one of Jose’s favourites.

Both appalling players, and the reason was their attitude. They were both given great opportunities, but they choose not to take them. Very telling that both players were clearly disliked by both the fanbase and the players.

I think he has to hands down be the worst transfer I can recall. His comments have left an extraordinarily bad taste in my mouth as well. I usually wish ex players the best but this guy is, at least in my books, trying to squarely fit himself into the same box as a certain Snake. It's utterly pathetic that he seems incapable of taking any responsibility for his shortcomings, talks about how he was effectively entitled to a spot on the team, and even says he for all intents and purposes gave up after the first training session.

This about sums it up for me too. They guy ultimately wasn't cut out to be a Manchester United player. Completely stole a living off the club in the end.

In fairness the full comments are more respectful than the quotes doing the rounds. It clearly wasn't a great place to work under Mourinho, but I've little sympathy for an experienced player being paid 500k a week who suddenly forgets how to kick a football because they get a bit of a bad vibe at work.

Never put Falcao in line with Sanchez, at least he was grateful to our club and never said anything wrong.
Yes, the guy was very grateful with whatever situation he was in.
And we paid next to nothing for Falcao. Considering he came back from ACL injury, I don't have anything against Falcao.

Not from the Sanchez interview but sheds light on the shit show under Mourinho and the current situation under Ole.

The environment became toxic after Sanchez signing not before it, so he was a big part of such toxic environment anyway. This isn't an excuse for him.

Edit : It also was turning really toxic in his last days with Arsenal before joining us. The guy is just a big part of it. He wasn't hindered by such environment.

Yeah I don't get the Falcao thing. He was a failure alright but at the end of the day, it was just a loan move. Nothing to look at.

Does he really think by saying he wanted to go back to Arsenal after his first Utd training session would paint him in a good light?

Just shows his heart was never in it, the money looked good so he took the contract without really ever wanting to be here. Easily one of the clubs worst ever signings.

Highest paid player in the league can only perform in a family enviroment. The reason you were getting 20 or 30 mins is because you were that shite.

Ironic that Joses two main guys were the biggest sensitive slapped arses, while Martial, Rashford and Shaw were getting destroyed in the media by their own manager. but journalists dare question a talisman signing underperforming

How do you know it was becoming toxic after his arrival and not before?

Jason Burt of The Daily Telegraph wrote a brutal piece on Mourinho's tenure at United where it was revealed he even alienated the parents of the youth players at the club. The dude was a disease like no other.

Because that's what happened. Everything was going actually fine in this season and everything looked well and good till this signing happened, then it went down hill with everyone. He's not the only reason it turned toxic sure but he's also a toxic personality and played his role in it. As I said, the atmosphere around him in his last days with Arsenal was also getting extremely toxic before they fecked him off and got rid of his presence and wages, sitting on the bench laughing as they're losing and playing half arsed, with multiple reports saying Arsenal players despised him by the time he left. Stop making excuses for him really. This has nothing to do with Mourinho being toxic or not by the way (He was by the time he left as well) but Sanchez was also a big part of such toxic environment, not someone who suffered from it. He deserves absolutely no excuse for what he offered here.

Sanchez was signed on the 22nd of January 2018 when half the season had elapsed in that particular season. Mourinho had already alienated Pogba, Martial and Shaw just to name some by that time and had created a very toxic environment before Sanchez had arrived. I suggest you read the article from Jason Burt of the Telegraph who destroys Mourinho in his piece and sheds light on the problems he caused throughout the club.

Of course Sanchez should've done better and he admits that unlike the narcissistic cnut Mourinho who blames everyone else but himself.

Well that's not true. Get your facts right. Just before Sanchez signing Mourinho was still defending Pogba and attacking Scholes in public for criticizing him and Martial was playing regularly at this time as well. Mourinho's clash with Pogba and alienating Martial by playing Sanchez ahead of him, all happened, well, after Sanchez signing. Not sure anyone forgets this famous presser :

I'm not saying Mourinho wasn't toxic by the end of his time here (of course he was) or Sanchez was the whole reason it turned out toxic (he wasn't). However, Sanchez himself is as much of a toxic personality and presence in dressing room as Mourinho was by the end of time here and he was big part of the bad culture present in the club. He wasn't hindered by it, he was part of it. He was also a toxic personality in Arsenal's dressing room before leaving. Being a toxic presence in 2 dressing rooms in a row is no joke, so that's nothing new to him. Take some time to read this :

Honigstein told the Totally Football Show podcast."It has become a bit of a joke to laugh at Arsenal because they made the noise 'finally we got rid of Alexis Sanchez', but I think it's been under-reported just how badly the whole Arsenal dressing room hated Alexis Sanchez.

"They really felt that he was just playing up to the camera doing all these things like 'Oh I'm trying but nobody else is! What am I doing here?

"Arsenal would put up stats inside the dressing room last year after every game showing the amount of kilometres run, the passing, and Sanchez would regularly come out with the lowest mileage by a big distance and he players would just go absolutely bananas at him playing to the camera and making all these moves like 'Oh, they're just not worthy of me! What am I doing here?

"So they really wanted to get rid of him. Whether they have improved as a team is a different story, but I think it is a happier dressing room."
So yeah, guy is a terrible and toxic personality. No wonders both Arsenal and us felt glad just fecking him off from the team.

You seem to only want to talk about Mourinho but you're missing the fact we're now in a Sanchez thread. and he's been garbage here from every single category that the next manager after Mourinho couldn't wait to feck him off. In fact, Mourinho should be criticized heavily for just buying him. It was the signing that started the end of his tenure.

So stop defending him. You can trash talk about Mourinho without making Sanchez looks like an angel who suffered by being here at this time. He was an absolute disaster and I honestly can't endure the idea of making him a victim now.

The reason I'm only talking about Mourinho is because he was the route cause of the problem. Who signed Sanchez? Yes that's right it was Mourinho, when we had Martial performing well in the same position he wanted to deploy Sanchez in. So if Sanchez was toxic like you suggest then we have to look at who created the problem and all roads lead to Mourinho who caused a problem when there wasn't one. It's a good job the board intervened because we would've sold Martial otherwise and Mourinho's acolytes would've lapped it up and defended his decision blindly.

It's not about making excuses. It's about who made the decisions that created the mess we found ourselves in with a toxic dressing room and poor recruitment and Mourinho is largely to blame along with the board who gave him the job.

Well I actually said this, that Mourinho should be heavily criticized for just buying Sanchez. It was a signing that marked the beginning of the end for his tenure and helped alienating the squad. Overall, it was a disaster from every single perspective. I don't think I absolved Mourinho of any blame here, I'm just saying Sanchez wasn't a victim that's all, and was part of the wrong culture present in the club. I'm glad we moved on from making any more similar signings now, and are targeting correct players. That has been Ole's best quality as a manager for us so far.

Sanchez was a victim of coming into a setup that was headed by a narcissist who had alienated his players like he did at Chelsea and Madrid.

Ronaldo wanted to jump ship after the 2006 world cup after the Rooney incident and was ready to join Valencia after much criticism from journos and United fans. Had he been sold many would've blamed him for causing the mess but the difference was that we had SAF who had fantastic people skills and stabilised the situation and completely changed the narrative in the long run. It just shows what a manager with good man management and people skills can achieve.

Cantona was another divisive figure and was said to be a trouble causer before we signed him but under a manager like SAF he enjoyed a very successful and fruitful period and the whole narrative changed on the young troubled Frenchman who ended up at Sheffield Wednesday on trial after leaving France.

I'm not sure what's even the point of comparison in these 2 examples. Again, read what I quoted above about how Sanchez was a toxic personality in Arsenal dressing room before coming to United and how their players couldn't wait for him to leave. 2 clubs in a row now couldn't wait to get rid of him, of his presence and his salary, so it's not just us. If you're giving example of Mourinho alienating dressing rooms before United so Sanchez also has a history of being a toxic presence in his last club.

If he wasn't a toxic personality and it was all down to Mourinho why did he continued on his failing under Ole ? Why didn't he re-discover himself like Martial, Pogba and Shaw under the next manager ? Why couldn't Ole wait to get rid of him as soon as possible after just half a season managing him ?

Because he was a toxic presence in the dressing and a terrible teammate.

Just because Mourinho was toxic it means Sanchez was a victim now and an angel who didn't work here because of the atmosphere here. He was part of such atmosphere. Period. He's one of the players that Ole got rid of to improve the "culture" and "atmosphere" around dressing room, just like Lukaku.

Again. one can say think Mourinho was piece of garbage without making an absolute disaster of player as Sanchez look like a victim. Weird reasoning, really.

For me, it was more of an indictment of Mourinho then the club.

Cantona was said to be a toxic presence in the the Leeds dressing room and Howard Wilkinson sold him to united. I'm just pointing out that a manager with good people skills can make a huge difference to even troubled players. Under SAF, Cantona was a consummate professional by all reports and was very adept at kung fu kicks.

Why did Ole not keep him? Maybe because Ole didn't want to keep players who weren't happy at the club. And Sanchez like Cantona is a human being and wasn't happy due to the atmosphere that had been created hence wanted out. Even Ronaldo wanted out because he wasn't happy.

Under Fergie I'm confident things would've been different for Sanchez because he would've joined Fergie's stable United which would've benefited him. Because Fergie had the skills to bring out the best in even the troubled players like he proved with the above examples.

If it was as bad s Sanchez reckons and he was hard done to here, why didnt he ask if he could have scrapped his contract after Mourinho left? Im sure woody would have obliged. Just a greedy twat who bit the hand that fed him.

And the atmosphere improved under Ole and it became a happy place again. Players who were underperforming previously managed to re-discover themselves and play well. Pogba, Martial, Rashford and Shaw all emerged back and kicked on with great performance in the Ole honeymoon period and are still performing well till now for majority of time.

Meanwhile Sanchez kept on failing more and more under Ole, who decided to get rid of him in summer as one of the players who wanted to clear off to improve the culture and atmosphere around the club like Lukaku.

So I'm not sure what you're defending him for him. Ole's man management has been pretty good, and other players managed to re-emerge from their problems under Mourinho and played very well under Ole. Sanchez is the only exception here. If his problems were only due to Mourinho's toxic presence and bad man management, he would have improved during Ole's tenure like the rest but it didn't happen unlike other players. Period. It's his problem at this point.

Because the reality the guy was just in here for the money and nothing else. He seemed to hate everything about the club and city during his tenure here, pre and post Ole.

"I'd rather have a hole in the squad than an asshole,"

. And Sanchez like Cantona is a human being and wasn't happy due to the atmosphere that had been created hence wanted out.
Atmosphere went to shit because of him in many ways. Peak of everything was when Jose slated our young players on tour in America saying Alexis don't have anyone to play with. I don't like Jose, but probably even he went nuts when the most paid man in the club couldn't make a simple pass after all the defending. Maybe he didn't create the best environment for him to succeed, but he did gave him his favorite position and shit load of chances.

Under Fergie I'm confident things would've been different for Sanchez because he would've joined Fergie's stable United which would've benefited him. Because Fergie had the skills to bring out the best in even the troubled players like he proved with the above examples.
Fergie almost certainly would never went for him under those wages.

Sanchez hadn't even had a break from football for years and had been playing non stop for club and country. You also fail to realise that he is also human and when humans are unhappy they don't function optimally. I know many on here think footballers are like robots and love to jump to conclusions but the environment created by the manager was the cause of his failure and that was before Solskjaer had arrived IMO.

Of course he came for the money. If it wasn't for the money most players wouldn't leave their homeland. Why would he leave Chile if he could make the same amount there? Why would anyone leave their country for work purposes and not it being for money? The rest of what you're saying is pure speculation and isn't based on fact.
