We really need to stop going for such obvious targets. We wait for players to become superstars before we show an interest.

Maguire, Sancho 12 months before we actually got them or even 24 months before we got them wouldve been a shitload cheaper.

I don't think our lot will learn.
This.

It was only days ago that we briefed about a breakthrough with Sancho over his wages.....
Who briefed it?
Was it genuine or just more b/s that got out of hand and even fooled the top tier press as well.
I’m not calling it either way, but it wouldn’t be the first time that has happened.

I know you are agreeing with him but what top top club does this ? The likes of City Real and Barca buy when the hit the top level for higher fees. Liverpool fair enough have bought players for cheap and there value is through the roof, but for every Sancho and Maguire you sign there is loads you buy cheap and they turn out not good enough

This will get done, any alternatives are nowhere near good enough. We might have to pay the full asking price and the only negotiating will be about the structure of instalments. Painful how long it’s dragging out but feel it’s going to go down to the last week. Not even sure I want him for $120m but think it will get done.
Weather we get it done or not it’s surely going to restart the whole DoF debate again- if we don’t get it done WTF has ED being doing all summer, and if we pay full price in the last week like we did for Harry and Bruno then every club we deal with in the future will know how to negotiate with us as long as ED is in charge of transfers.

Yeah from the start Sancho would come here then after he received a bonus for playing for England a certain amount of times it was reported(off multiple and credible sources) that personals terms and agent fees is done(well wouldn’t be a problem) just the few itself. This transfer will happen if we pay 100m£ or it won’t if we don’t I’m 100% sure Dortmund won’t budge on the price

When is the last time we bought a player for a smallish fee and developed him into a star?
Was it Vidic?
What has happened to our scouting system?

Every week that goes without signing him, we're saving £200k in wages. Imagine the savings when we never sign him at all :nervous:

Star ? I’m not sure maybe Evra, Vidic and DeGea. I’m not sure what is happening but I know one thing when we were at the top, young players worldwide tended to be at smaller clubs and then get snapped up, like Porto for example they pull all the South American players for cheap then sell for big fees.
But these days all the top young players are at top clubs as the scouting is so much better, we seem to be left behind a bit. Our scouting seems poor but our academy is still class

We opted out of the Havertz deal because we went all in for Sancho... only to realize we won't get Sancho. I don't see the Sancho deal happening and we were supposed to exploit the market per Ole's remarks 5 months back. We ended up getting VDB for 35m which was a really good deal but once again we didn't back the manager. This was the perfect time to strengthen in multiple areas when the transfer fees is fairly low. #playingfortop4onceagain #smallclubmentality.

No I don't think we ever were realistically in for Havertz, they don't even play the same position.

Unfortunately, Woodward's mate won't be held under the spotlight.

Who is Matt Judge? Manchester United transfer negotiator

It is funny ( well it is tragic but you must laugh); first time that we were only one in a race for a player and we managed to lose that race.
In the past we lost top players because of other clubs or because player chose to stay (used situation and got better contract).
This is snails pace and there is no one else in this, so how on earth's it is a race. I need some time off. Only hope for the season is top 4. feck of Woodward and Glazers.

Don't get why on a United forum of all places so many people are blaming this saga on our club when Dortmund and associates cant keep its mouth shut about stalling and refusing to budge. We clearly havent had a lot of trouble getting some (at the times) massive transfers done. The problem has been how little we sell for and not getting the right players a lot ot times. If United really wants Sancho we ll get it done. If we don't - feck it. We showed a ton of improvement last year and im sure we ll do better this year - Samcho or not.

Its a weird year. Other than Chelski perhaps i haven't seen a lot of great transfer stories this summer.

Laugh on, mate. Because City and Liverpool has signed world class players. More world class players than United, more world class players than most sides in the world.

I dont understand how thats even debatable.

Everyone has their definition of "World Class" All I'm saying is these players were not considered world-class when they were signed, maybe Alisson and Van Djik, but Salah, Mane, Firmino? Just surprised you would get your knickers in a twist about someone else's definition of the word. I know just your thoughts count, but still. I will leave you to your ignorant bliss.

All the clubs that generate their own income are hesitant given no one knows how long the Covid financial effects are going to last for. Look at the Spanish clubs for example. Even Liverpool off the back of recent CL/PL success can’t/won’t cough up petty cash for Thiago.

If you’re financed by an Oil State or an oligarch then things are obviously a little different.

Ed and the Glazers must love to see how many excuses can we fans dish out for them to protect their positions, yet at the same time they leech United every year...

So I read this initially as ‘MAN UP REDCAFE’ and I thought yeah! Right on! Then I put my glasses on....

I still think this could happen. We want it, Sancho wants it, and we’ve got until October to get it done. Does he usually take PK for Dortmund or was this his good bye goal? A swansong? A parting gift? Symbolic passing of the baton to Bellingham?!! He’ll be a red yet....
This definitely still could happen and it's always a waiting game. Just too many people have such mood swings when it comes to getting something they really really want and it takes time. It may take another 2 weeks or another year, who knows. But the team and game will not stop, so gotta keep going and improve the players currently putting on the red shirt.

Yeah, but why will suddenly cough up money we've been unwilling or incapable of paying all throughout the summer? Also, don't see why Dortmund would give in considering if it gets too late they wouldn't have enough time to replace him. He's the sort of player you need to replace with genuine quality.

Can't blame Ed, he doesn't own the club and he's not getting money from it directly like the Glazers.

They don't shut their mouths because they're wankers so I won't dispute that bit. However, why should they budge? He's one of the best young footballers around, they are within their rights to demand a monster fee for him. If we find that valuation wrong we can agree to disagree.

Also to be noted that Sancho isn't agitating for a move. To me he seems pretty happy to move this year or next year to whichever big club is willing to pay up. So for our sake you have to hope that the other big boys don't go for him as most of them are better than us right now.

meh, if we don't get him, we don't get him.
This isn't the first time we lost out on a player and wont be the last.
I'm uncomfortable at how much people here put all their hopes on Sancho, like he's the saviour who would save the season. He's a very good player no doubt, but United season will not be defined by Sancho coming or not

Strange how people act like Sancho is our player held hostage by Dortmund.

Until we pay up and he signs up, they can post whatever they want about their marketable young star; he actually plays for them.

Zero worries that RM and Liverpool are targeting Sancho next summer.

RM wants Mbappe and Cavamaniga next year (and has targeted them for years) a so that's where their muppet head will be at.

Liverpool can't even afford Thiago for a quarter of the price. And this season will again be a loss making one for a lot of clubs.

Barca's finances are a complete disaster.

Realistically, the only clubs that could afford him next summer are City (and he is not going back there with Pep as the manager) or Chelsea. City and Pep would try to finance the Messi deal on a free.
You forgot PSG. Assume they sell Mbappe next summer, they will need to find a replacement. Sancho is the closest thing they could get in the market to replace him. 120m quote price is nothing to them.

Also, assume Messi will leave Barca next summer, they will need to find a replacement too, Sancho would be the best they could get in the market, if their financial situation allows though.

The attitude, similar to Madrid fans. The entitlement and to be fair to Dortmund they did long tell us their valuation, even us fans have known since before the window opened. We didn't meet the price for their asset and that's the end of it.

Twitter admins of the Bundesliga clubs' accounts are some of the most butt-hurt people I've ever seen. I don't even care if Sancho has a good spell with us, now I just want us to get him so I can go tell the BVB admin to shove it up his arse.

It's OK to celebrate non-transfers. We had a ball with Madrid's fax machine fiasco and DDG. :)

At the end of the day, it comes down to the glazers.....not the club. They are a parasite on the club. Dortmund should accept the fact they're a stepping stone. It's not Uniteds fault the german leagues all about Munich.

Just listened to Fab on the United Stand from earlier today, basically kept suggesting that Dortmund want the cash up front, aren't humouring talk of add-ons or instalments. If that's true, we need to start searching elsewhere as there is no chance in hell we pay that much up front in a normal market, let alone with covid. Some interesting options in Kubo, Dembele etc. we could pursue that would be far more justifiable in this market.

German club twitter handlers are so petty
The narcissism at display here in this thread is really something else. Do you really think the are doing it just to spite some transfer muppets? They are promoting their team, and that's it.
