We are not going to sign him. He seems happy in Dortmund and has a good partnership with Haaland. Dortmund will probalby try to get a higher prize aswell, now that we are more desperate. Woodward fecked up this deal in August.

I dunno, a week or even a day, is a long time in football. Spurs were in a similar spot last week after being tumescent and turfed out at home to Everton. Fast forward a week and two signings (ironically a LB and a winger) and suddenly they're all absolutely buzzing, with that result largely being forgotten. Even us during LvG's first season where we reacted to the even more embarrassing 4-0 hammering to MK Dons was largely forgotten when we went on that transfer blitz a week later, culminating in Falcao's deadline day arrival.

Saw a statistic the other day. Post Ferguson we spend twice as much in summer windows when we've failed to qualify for the champions League than we do when we've qualified. We qualified last season ergo the Glazers were unlikely to spend big this window even if circumstances were better. They're willing to invest enough to keep us on the Champions league gravy train but not enough to push on and start winning major titles.

I'm hoping we sign a RWF even if Sancho doesn't arrive. Someone like Ousmane Dembele or Chiesa should be bought IMO. Chiesa many on here turn their nose up at due to the numbers but for me he's a very dangerous player for the opposition due to his fantastic ability on the ball. He also adds real intensity on and off the ball and would greatly help in enforcing high pressure due to his immense work rate. He fits a high pressing team like a glove.
We shouldn't underestimate the likes of Arsenal, Spurs, Wolves or Leicester because us putting all our eggs in the Sancho basket and failing to sign him will give the aforementioned a real chance of pipping us to 4th.

Year of Moyes: We spent the odd £70mill after having won the league, after a season where we had won the league and signed Zaha, Van Persie and Kagawa as first team players. Zaha having his first season under Moyes.
First season of Van Gaal, no CL: £145mill spent on Herrera, Shaw, Rojo, Di Maria and Blind.
Season with CL: The odd £100mill on Depay, Darmian, Schweinsteiger, Anthony Martial (record fee at the time) and Romero on a free.
The total transfer outlay is less, but he pretty much got everything he pointed at, excluding Muller as Bayern were anything but interested in selling him.
Mourinho spent £150mill the first summer, no CL. £146mill the following summer, having qualified for the CL via the Europa League. Breakdown between manager and management becomes clear towards the end of the second season, no trust whatsoever, kept insisting on new players to replace players he had already signed, not happy with his CB's after he had just spent £60mill on lindelof and Bailly. £30mill on Mkhi but instantly replaced him with Sanchez, on obscene wages, who turned out to be even worse. His insistance on getting Depay out of the club on a permanent deal was met by frustration at the club, as we initially wanted to loan him out. We sold him for feck all.
Breaking this down to "we only spend money when we finish outside the top 4" is bizarre. The only time we've gone in to do damage control and limit the manager is after Mourinhos second season, when things started going to shits.

They probably can't even afford to let him go at a price that clubs are willing to pay due to their budgets. Best case someone offers a swap deal with an absolutely insane valuation, like say swapping Arthur for Pjanic and £66mill. Surprised they didn't just go for the £150mill instantly..

It doesn't have to be Dembele it could be another player we target because the point of the post was that there is good quality options that we can bring in who would provide the requisite quality in the role in question.
Doesn't mean that every french twat we sign ends up being a legend at the club.
We're at the stage now where this is getting easy. Is Sancho available or not, can we afford to sign him or not, if the answer is no then move the feck over to Sarr and get it done, then see if we can afford to scrape together some cash for either a left back or a cb.
Our CL season under LVG we sold Di Maria which kept our net spend low and our CL season under Jose we finished 6th hence why we spent to make us a solid top 4 team. Bet you intentionally left out those facts

Sarr being left out of the squad means he may be close to a move. Liverpool is the club mostly being mentioned but now they signed Jota, I cannot see them spending big again.

Di Maria wasn't interested in staying, to the point where he refused to go on tour with the club, wasn't really interested in joining us in the first place but he had burnt his bridges at Madrid and PSG couldn't finance him due to regulations. We didn't sell him to keep the spending at a certain level or to finance someone else. If he had stayed, we wouldn't have signed Depay, that's about it.
Net spend is a meaningless obsession, the only thing interesting here is the amount spent to reinforce.

The conclusion here is pretty fecking easy to understand. Barcelonas finances are utter shit, to the point where they do swap deals at inflated prices for budget reasons...There is no such thing as Ousmane Dembele at a low price, as they can't fecking afford it. Anyone wanting to sign Dembele will have to do it at an obscene price, so why the feck would we even want to consider forking out a similar sized, or even larger, fee for Dembele than we can't afford for Sancho?
