Lingard is a little hope for our season to be turned around. Play him and hope he can find some form.
We need creativity and smart runs up front.
Give Matic a game too could be needed.

First team need to play. It’s clear that they don’t look ready to start this season, and they need to get ready - quickly. Pogba especially must play as he was hugely out of sorts today. He’s had no pre-season and played his first game in a month, and was massively below par.

Should treat it like a preseason as they clearly need more minutes

Though please play Mengi instead of Lindelöf

It needs to be a 100% full strength team. We need match fitness.

Part of me wants Ole to experiment with a midfield trio of Fernandes, Pogba and VDB. Heaven knows most of them need their match fitness brought up to speed.

We could do with getting knocked out of this cup ASAP.
We’re on our longest trophy drought in 31 years, have no chance of winning the league or champions league and are therefore reliant on domestic cups as a chance for silverware. But no, we could do with getting knocked out of this cup ASAP.

It'll be so many games and ultimately doing better in all other competitions takes priority.

All I want from this match is for Henderson to play his fecking socks off. Saves, distributions, organization. Anything to increase his chances of starting the next PL match.

Playing strong XI for match fitness. Dean should play instead of DDG.

Please play anyone over Lindelof. He is pure dross.

Agree on the preseason thing though. Do a Spurs against Plovdiv and play the first team. They clearly need more mileage in their legs.

Luton have started their season well and will definitely fancy their chances. I fancy their chances after yesterday's shitshow.

who cares about this competition, the only one who cares is our novice manager to put it in his CV he went all the to the semifinal and brag about it until he gets knocked out by the first good team in the competition.

If the game's on Tuesday then Ole better play the strongest eleven. If we're not match fit then use this game to get us to where we need to be.Henderson in goal though.

    AWB Bailly/Tuanzebe Maguire Shaw
    Matic
    VDB Pogba
    Bruno
    Greenwood Martial

Not much width there but I don’t want to see James start and I think Rashford needs benching, just a little reminder he needs to up his game and I’d love to see Greenwood play more centrally.

Lindelof needs to be dropped obviously and hopefully Martial can bag a couple for confidence, hopefully Pogba can add some more fitness and VDB has to start and show what he’s about.

Could of gone to this if fans were allowed in. Gutted.

Anyone who didn’t start yesterday has to come in for fitness purposes. AWB, Williams, Bailly, Fred. Then the ones who didn’t play internationals such as Pogba, Rashford, Greenwood.

They simply have to get fitter by playing games.

We’re likely to play first team for them to get some minutes. Probably Henderson over DDG and pull Bruno off after 60 mins so that he isn’t overworked this early in the season.

To those saying they’d rather win this cup, how much do you even value this one? Is it really worth winning this if it helps paper over the cracks?

    Why ?

play a mix of subs and youth First 11/14 players shouldn’t be near the ground
I'm fine with that, but if we get deep then we'll start playing first teamers and the games will pile up... That's what I'm wary about.

It'll be another game where our "great with youth" manager suddenly can't find space for any of them to play.

At a minimum Mengi if fit needs to start.

What, the thought of just scrapping around for fourth doesn’t fill you with joy? Like Pogba, I need a new challenge.

As much as I love the idea of young players getting game time, it rarely works to chuck a load in with little first team experience.

It would be interesting to see Mengi and Elanga certainly though.

Ighalo should start and I imagine VDB and Mata.

    Can see Bailly starting too.

Would almost play the first team to get them match fitness but tinker at a few positions.

    Fred instead of mct
    Awb at rb
    Mengi cb
    Dvb at 10
    Anyone at rw

Why are people so keen to dismiss this competition?

Winning it in 2006 was a great platform for Fergie's last great team

because there’s too many games and not enough time to play them.

Seeing as we were miles off against Palace having had no matches in pre season, we should probably go quite strong here.

We're 4 games from a final at Wembley now. Just 4!

If they can't find the strength to play 5 extra games (over 6 months) to win a trophy then they all deserve binning off.

The first team absolutely needs to play plus maybe 2-3 youth / squad players. The teams which are doing well have already played 4-5 games at this stage.

Agreed. Majority of the XI should be first XI players lacking fitness. Only guaranteed change being Henderson in for De Gea.

First XI, need match fitness badly.

That said, I can see the team being something like this:

    Henderson
    Wan-Bissaka Bailly Maguire Shaw
    Fred
    Bruno van de Beek
    Greenwood Martial Rashford

Maybe Matic over Fred and Pogba over Donny.
