I'd like to see if Mengi is ready to step up, if he handles a physical Luton then maybe see how he does in the League.

Freshen up the defence and play as many of core attack unit as possible to get sharpness and confidence up. Rest a couple who logged heavy minutes last season and bring them on for a run out to close a comfortable lead, or one or two of the academy kids

    Henderson
    TFM Bailly Maguire Shaw
    VDB Fred Pogba
    Mason Martial Rashford
Pick 3 from subs out of: Matic, Ighalo, Bruno, Lingard, AWB, Mengi, McT, DJ

Need this game for fitness so play first team but drop Lindelof. Need to give time to Bailly.

Yep. Treat this as a pre season game. Ge the first team out against Luton and get them up to speed for the next PL game. We can't afford to sacrifice another PL game for fitness.

some players need the minutes in their legs - id want to bed some others in. Martial and Fernandes can sit it out

not sure whether Rashford needs a goal or a month away. I'd give James a chance in his preferred position after getting hauled off at half time

    -----------------Henderson----------------------
    AWB--------Bailly----Maguire------Shaw
    --------------Matic-------Pogba--------------
    Greenwood------VDB-----------James
    ---------------------Rashford-----------------

We are either unfit, or lying.

If unfit - play the first team, burn them to the ground.
Take the bike tour to London in the morning and if we lose, make them run back to Manchester.

Pep says he’s using a 2nd string, we should be doing the same.

if we can’t beat Luton with the likes of lingard, pereira, James, Ighalo, fred then what’s the point?

Considering the un-match fit excuse, we should expect a full first team.
Agreed. I want to see the exact 11 Ole wants to play against Brighton. And a run out for the subs he plans to use. I also think the whole intended bench for the Brighton game should play a 90 min friendly on Wednesday.

It’s only been one game but I am anxious about where things are headed if we lose to Brighton. We have Spurs Chelsea and Arsenal over the following four games including Newcastle away. If we don’t get going soon we could actually be bottom after six games.

On the flip side, we could be top, in which case, ignore me.

No chance will we use a first team 11. Travelling down to Luton, back again for 2 days training only to travel back down to Brighton? That’s very little training at all. completely counter productive.

Maguire will play and perhaps 1-2 first team on the bench but I think it’ll be completely 2nd string. Nobody is going to take it serious with this fixture congestion

I'm not anti Scottish, I just wanted Moyes out.

I thought the problem was that we are missing games and haven't got match fitness and that's why we lost to Palace, surely then we should be playing are strongest team to get match fitness?

    Lack of training is worse.

Playing 1 match but having to travel to London and back, then down to Brighton and back all in 1 week means we will get about 2 days to train properly.

Obviously match sharpness is also important but we can get that with in house friendlies. No need to travel across the country to do that.

The main issue is we've just not had any "pre season" to do the fitness work we would usually do. Even City flagged at around 60 minutes last night, they started well but should have lost after being 2-0 up. Unfortunately for us Palace got the early goal then stuck to their game plan perfectly.

I can see it already. Our players lack match fitness, so they need this game. If we lose, this competition is crap anyways. If we lose because of lack of squad depth, it’s Ed’s fault. If we win, Ole did a fantastic job.

No way Ole will field a second-string team. Ole is sneakily very afraid of losing 'unimportant' games. People think he gives youth a chance, but he rarely does in these kinds of games, even worse than Mourinho and Pep (who is going to field an academy team). I hope to see Mengi, but no way he will give an unproven player a chance here. Therefore:

    Henderson
    AWB, Bailly, Maguire, Williams
    Fred, Matic
    Greenwood, VDB, James
    Ighalo

I think its anyone's guess what team Ole will put out tonight.

At the moment with some players that are self-isolating, and others that should be; with our two main attackers still not firing on all cylinders and the 'will we, won't we' buy anyone else going on in the background, it would seem the club is all at sea.

There has been no preseason of any real description and its showing massively, it going to be another month, maybe the end of October before everyone is fit and up to speed. Another test of Ole's management skills, no one doubts his commitment, but some of his selections since the semi's and the rest of the back end of last season leave something to be desired.

If I were Ole I'd give this fantastic group of lads a chance to gain match fitness and/or confidence. As said, should be treated as a pre-season friendly.

    Hendo

    Aaron
    Vicky
    Eric
    Willy

    Mateyc
    Paul

    Rashy
    Bruno
    Jesse

    Mason

Bring on Donny, Scotty and Tony on during the second half.

3rd in the Championship and the 'ol plastic pitch to contend with, not a straight forward game at all.

We just a win of any sorts for morale, going to be a makeshift team no matter what by the sounds of it so probably not going to be a glittering display but enough to win fingers crossed.

    I'd go

    Henderson
    AWB
    Mengi
    Maguire
    Shaw
    Matic
    Pogba
    Van De Beek
    Greenwood
    Rashford
    Martial

    Went with

    Henderson
    Dalot TFM Maguire Williams
    VdB Fred
    Mata Fernandes Lingard
    Martial
Martial cause he needs the confidence of putting them to the sword. Maybe AWB over Dalot since he didn't start the last game. VdB deserves a start and Pogba could do with the bench/rest.
Ighalo on for Martial early if we are 2 goals up, later if not. Greenwood on if we struggle with them parking the bus.
Mengi will get some minutes if there are swaps left.

There's an international break coming up
Oh ffs, again? I long for the day when the powers that be finally see sense and just bunch those up at the end of every season. Play the club season first and then the international season. It'd be almost like having a major tournament every summer. Much better than the current shitty way of constantly interrupting real football for the shite one.

Id be looking at the weekend agaist Brighton if I was picking this team.
feck this cup this year. City will win it anyway.

THe main dilemma is do you pick Rashford to play or do you play the person thats going to start in his place at the weekend to get a game in their legs

But Ole will probably play Rashford in both games

    In your opinion guys,
Is it better to play full strentgh to give us automatisms and sharpness ?
Or full rotation to play Mengi, Fred, Hendo etc.

I hope to see a lot of the shop-window players in this match, along with youngsters. But it's important Ole selects a balanced side, so as not to do a disservice to youngsters hoping to impress or players we're trying to flog.

    Definitely not the first XI

Pre-season game. Just get minutes under the belt and build fitness.

Could do without this distraction later on in the season. Rest time is going to be hard to come by what with not being able to play the reserves in Europe.
