Under a tree.
I think we need a ebay type 3 offer system for Ed, and if none are accepted only "buy it now" is available.

I can imagine he's started low and has been increasing 1m per day since, and by Oct 5th will be around 90m..

I dont have the energy to look through the top 5 leagues for a winger, so I have to accept that you are correct. I was wrong and I take I everything I said. The main point I was making though is if Sancho is worth it, or if we should have spent time looking elsewhere. I certainly feel like we could have put energy into sorting out other areas that are important too.

For the record, if Sancho do come, I will root for him and support him of course, but I'm worried for him, and for us, maybe the money could've been used more efficiently to and I'm worried we'll be left with a player with low confidence, a huge transfer fee with big shoes to fill. If he joins United you just know that he is going to be our star boy for a month before people start crucifying him for small mistakes. He can become a world-beater, but he is young and it's a major responsibility to play for United, especially in today's day and age. Just because Sancho might be the only option, it doesn't mean he's the right one.
And I’m not saying we should buy him. However the idea that we can find a hidden gem, certainly of quality enough to be first xi is just impossible nowadays.

for me the only sensible alternative is perisic and buy a chance/lb

Hidden Gem? With our impatient fan Base? Forget it.

Oh this would be brilliant, imagine Dortmund put him on eBay with a make an offer that is only accepted when it hits the magic number.

That would be a top wind up from Dortmund.

The current manager hasn’t signed anything of that sort since he arrived though.
I hope so, but he's been putting pressure on Woodward and co to get him a right winger (not Sancho specifically) and the only reasonable one we can get is Sarr right now.

If we weren't so fecking incompetent we could have probably got Dembele in on loan, given him a chance. Traore, Maximilian, Zaha are also some interesting options.

We never had the intention to pay for Sancho, people were just desperate to convince themselves this was on, when it died a very long time ago. United had no interest of coming out to deny the rumours due to the backlash they'd receive and the intrigue the transfer was garnering. They've spoken in the past about how important that social media movement is to them

Yup, and now everyone knows how desperate we are for leaving it so late. If we do bring someone in, we're gonna get rinsed with the fee.

Yep, more importantly though, the board have made their intentions and ambition crystal clear now though

Trouble is dembele seems to be only available as a direct buy for sancho money or On a “must buy if he completes x games and you pay his 300k”.

the others are all going to cost 60-70m which seems poor value

Get Sarr and Upa and be done with it. He ain’t coming.
That'd be what a normal person might do. And Sarr becomes the rotation option when/if Sancho comes later on.

Trouble is, narcissists like Woodward have an extreeeeeeeeeemly difficult time changing tack. Mainly because it involves them 'being wrong', which can never ever ever be allowed to happen.

I used to believe that we only got Fellaini in Moyes' first window and noone else because it was his hesitance to sign off on anyone but it just confirms more and more that Ed can only work on one deal at a time and he's fecking rubbish at doing that too doesn't it?

Feels like vdB was done by someone else on the quiet, someone who's actually competent.
The good Ed.

I'm not so sure. Dembele is on huge wages, Barca are struggling for cash. Keeping a player on such amounts of money, when it's clear his body doesn't react well to the lack of intensity in training etc. which is constantly causing muscular injuries isn't the brightest idea. Had we approached earlier, I do think they would have been open to negotiating, even if that was a loan with an obligation to buy, something Dortmund clearly have little interest in negotiating with us. The same with the other players. They will quote us an arm and a leg now though as we'd rather feck all our plans than accept we're wrong, thus leaving it so late

I’m saying this now, if we don’t get him this summer, he’ll sign for one of our rivals next year. We won’t progress this year with this group of players whereas our rivals will get stronger. Why would he sign with us then when we seem to have shown sheer incompetence and lack of ambition in getting him this year?

You're always paying for potential when signing young players. That being said, I'd take Sancho over Son (who's one hell of a player) even in the short term. Sancho's the biggest talent I've seen in the Bundesliga besides maybe Götze and he's already utilizing his potential to an impressive level. Based on stats he's already joining the Messi/Neymar/Mbappe/Cristiano group of productivity. Son is not in the same region, and definitely wasn't even close to it when he was ~20. And the eye test confirms that - Sancho is capable of things very, very few players are capable of.

Playing the Bundesliga card is also a bit ironic when you are arguing in favor of Son. He does much better in the EPL than he did in the Bundesliga. Actually, few Leverkusen fans would've thought that he could become the player he is today.
Sancho: 35 goals in 98 Dortmund appearances = 0.36 goals per game average
Son: 89 goals in 232 Spurs appearances 0.38 goals per game average

Far from not being in the same region, Son is actually slightly higher in the same region ... with most of the games concerned played in a tougher league. Sancho is of course very young, but your stats argument doesn't hold water.

I believe that's exactly what will happen, they have such an easy excuse with Covid, but we all know if it wasn't Covid, there'd be another excuse. I ain't buying the Covid excuse when the club was bought on ridiculous debt and nothing has been done to address the debt in two decades. If they were really so scared of financial debt and implications, they would not have been operating on scary amounts of debt for approaching two decades, they would not be intent on still taking out their dividend payments, which I guarantee you they will still be able to justify despite the pandemic

Imagine the sheer boost in momentum if Sancho comes. This signing needs to happen.

I too think this would be the case if we weren’t signing him this season. Luckily we will.

I gave up on this happening weeks ago but why the feck have we not moved on to other targets earlier instead of scrambling about in the the last couple weeks. We’ll probably end up paying over the odds for someone who’s nowhere near Sancho quality.

Because it’ll more than likely get done. I don’t fecking know why we play this long term game with marquee signings but it seems like this is the normal.

Make no mistake, we table what they want Dortmund will roll over and take one and even then I don’t think this deal is in doubt. Strange

I know. What level do you think Zaha or Traore would or could potentially take us to?
They’d give us more threat from the right, especially Traore, and would leave more money to be spent on a center back, so I suppose we could then potentially push for the top 2 spots.

Not posting the ed woodward 'putting his house on sale' tweet as it's on the other thread, but I wonder if it's really to do with the hate he's been getting off Sancho
