But why haven't we signed him earlier then? he's been a free agent for the past 6 weeks. He will demand too much money to be brought in as a squad player, we've just started to clear out the deadwood then we'll re fill it with 250k, 34 year old, injury prone Cavani sat on the bench.
IF, this bit about us looking for a striker is true, then i think this is a very recent development. And this because, we most likely wont sign Sancho now, hence Greenwood would continue to be required on the right.
So, the need for a quality back-up striker.

This is why we'll never get rid of the Glazers. Fans like you will accept anything because it's a shiny new toy.

Are any of the major European clubs going anywhere near Cavani this summer? No!!!! Benfica was the nearest he's come to a deal. There's good reason mate. He's finished.
And fans like you will invent stuff like made up knee problems.

And no, he’s been linked with clubs like Atlético and Juventus this summer too. You have a real problem with just making stuff up don’t you?

I would be happy with either of these signings under the right conditions.

Cavani is a player I've admired for a long time and is a warrior - would bring a little bit of what Zlatan brought on terms of presence and character up top. Like others have said, he'd be brilliant alongside finally having an attacking left back in Telles. All depends on the wages - if he's prepared to take a reasonable salary and is coming for the right reasons, then brilliant. Get him in.

Jovic was a huge talent and we were all a bit jealous when Madrid nabbed him. If we can take him on a loan with an option to buy at a reasonable price, then he's an absolute no brainer of a signing.

Can't understand why anyone would take issue with signing a back up striker. Martial can't play every minute and of we want to keep him sharp and hungry, shouldn't be expected to. Our attacking options are paper thin and what back up is there, isn't good enough.

Under a tree.
I like Jovic as a player, but he seems a bit of a twat and has a attitude problem with several off field incidents. He was facing prison at one point during the initial covid outbreak in Europe with multiple rule breaks

Absolutely no problem with us signing either, both players will contribute much more then anything Dan James or Iglalo would.

Must say, I always thought Jovic was much more suited to English football then Spanish, I think he could be the real deal with ability to play from back to front and hold-up play, nice touch and a bit of confidence and I think he would be a fantastic addition

Lying in hospital post surgery, high as a MF'er, so maybe it's the drugs but I reckon Ruud Van Nistlerooy could still do a job for us. The pink elephant beside me agrees.
Honestly though, Cavani would be a brill short term option. Makes the decision to pay a large part of Igahlos wages until January all the more stupid. Makes no sense. Would love to see a different type of number 9 against certain teams, but also a quality different type of number 9. Which Cavani is.But again, I am on a post surgery high. I may disagree with myself later

Would be a great choice for rotation, and also great for those frustrating times when we are behind and teams park the bus on us, so we need to throw in an extra striker.

He is a free agent, seems to want a 3 year deal. I don’t see an issue there at all, because he is “only” looking for 175k per week, so this would never turn into a Sanchez situation. We can keep him 1 or 2 years and then sell him to MLS when it’s time.

It's really not though, is it? We've been linked with a striker for ages. Our current striking options are Martial and Ighalo. Greenwood's our RW, he's played there almost exclusively since he broke through, he might end up striker eventually but he isn't considered as an option there as it stands.
If we signed more wide players, both Rashford and Greenwood can cover Martial up front.

I wouldn't be against this signing proividng it's a short term deal and wages are reasonable. But I do wonder why we bothered extending Ighalo's loan as he's not going to play.

Martial has never been good enough for our main striker, and never will be if we actually want to start to get back to winning ways; he ain't no Ruud Van Nistelrooy (couldn't clean his boots...)

Rashford still plays like a youth player, and had been garbage since lock down ended (yeah, I know you like to give excuses, but it's the truth).

Greenwood - the only one with serious, natural ability - needs game time, and nurturing; the only one out of the three that could be genuine world class.

So yes, we need a serious striker - Vardy 5 years ago would have been perfect, he'd have been a legend at OT by now, and a better striker than Martial and Rashford could dream about being.

Jovic on loan with an option to buy could be a truly inspired bit of business. There's a great striker in there and Ole could very likely get the best out of him. If we're really looking to get in another striker, then this is the guy. A potentially world class striker on loan and an option to purchase him at a discount afterwards would be unreal.

Jovic could genuinely bench Martial if he gets that swagger back that he had in Germany. Would be very excited if there's genuinely something in this.

Who wants to bet he'll be a Spurs player in a few days?
Jovic wants to play after a season like the past at Madrid. At Spurs, Kane is the starter, then Bale whenever he comes back.

Would Cavani had the Ibra effect for us ?
No.

Cavani declined sharply the past 2 seasons. Leadership wise, Zlatan is something else.

Edit: Cavani was not all that in the first place really. He used to be energetic helping in the build up, but was wasteful. Now aging he can't maintain his overall play, on top of his wastefulness.

Not necessarily a sign he'll do it with us, but doesn't Jovic have more to prove?

Considering Ole's lack of faith in Igahlo, I'm surprised we haven't been in for a. Striker from the off

Wait until January and see if you can get Patson Daka as Ighalo goes back to China.
In the meanwhile our season suffers with some irreversible damage? Look like Ighalo is already a goner. Whether it's Daka or Jovic on loan, just get it now.

Yeah there is a far too big drop off from Tony to Odion

People thinking Cavani will be here as a bench option for Martial must be having a laugh.

He'll be a starter and will demand it.

I’d be against this. I’d rather we signed 2 RW. Greenwood isn’t going to need two seasons to get up to speed and move into the main striker position and challenge Martial. We also have Rashford who can play centrally well if needed in a push.

No sense at all in a Cavani who the argument for is that he’s got a couple of season in him, or Jovic who isn’t as good as Greenwood or Martial.
