People not caring about Carabao cup as if we have the league and CL in the bag.

You guys realize we're 3 seasons in a row trophyless right ? Stop being arrogant about these trophies, Ok ?

We only have this one and Fa Cup as a potential trophies this season. Having a 4th trophyless season in a row will be a disaster.

Or we have just completed our transform into fully Arsenal, sacrificing everything for 4th spot ?
We have turned into worse than Arsenal. Top 6 is enough for people here. At least Arsenal aimed to challenge for the league before imploding too.

I like your (controversial) posts usually but this one doesn't jive with me.

Winning the league cup is just not important. I'd rather go out playing the second team/kids than approach it like it matters (until at least the semis).

I hope Pogba comes on he needs minutes.

Mata, James and Ighalo will probably struggle.

Much depends on the fitness levels of individual players. I don't think we have enough info to pass judgement.
Btw brighton won't play full team either.
You are right about that. Good point. Greenwood has not played that much though so thought he would play.
I understand resting Bruno even though I rather he stays at home and miss international duty.

These seasons cup competitions should be used to rest the first eleven.

The squad depth is not deep enough for a Prem and CL let alone a few cups. Play the second team and see how far they can go.

I didn't say we should go with fully main lineup or complained about this lineup much, but I'm seeing people saying "who cares about Carabao cup" so we really need to put things into context.

Do people still think that Ole gives youth a chance?
Regardless of whether he does or not, this isn't the time to complain.

We need match fitness for the squad so there was little chance of any young players playing tonight.

I am not inviting you to my party when we win the CL.

    Interesting line up.
Good to see Maguire,Martial and Bruno rested.
Daniel James must deliver , plays on the left it looks like so no excuses for him today.

Hope VDB has a good game.
Good luck to the boys

Ah. fair. Yeah, it's a competition and I hope we win it. My only expectation is playing with dignity rather than prioritising it.

    Line-up is perfect for me.

Agreed with this. This whole attitude of who needs trophy is total anti United mentality. We better win some trophies this season.

    No Maguire.
James on the left, that's good.
Had a feeling Dalot could start.
I just didn't see Ighalo, thought it would be Martial.

Edit: Maguire is a surprise to.

Relax, people, it's the League Cup, these are the kind of selections we need to be able to use. Only surprising one for me is Dalot. If he's a defensive disaster I can see TFM coming off the bench.

I was reminded of some of the players SAF used to use in the League Cup (which he never cared for) - Marnick Vermijl against Newcastle, Scott Wootton and (a much younger) Michael Keane against Chelsea .....

Decent lineup, I hope Mengi is starting some of these before too long. That would be a good sign.

And James should be better on the left.

Do Lindelof, a regular in the team and who has played for Sweden, needs more match fitness? Or is it just that with Mengi...he might take a risk? I know what I believe.

Unsurprising to see such sweeping changes. The quality takes a serious decline when we do though. I missed Saturday's game unfortunately but from what I've seen and read we were poor. Hard to say how this will go seeing as Brighton made 9 changes themselves. The quality of our guys should be higher, but the key question is "are the fit?". I'm not so sure but hope for the best anyway.

Would've preferred Lingard over Mata, but a decent balance to that. Nice to have a really good backup midfield of course.

Are there any younger players that look a bit like Greenwood as in potentially ready to step up and help out in some games for the first team?

If so I'd want to test them out in games like this especially as Ole is supposedly keen to play youth.

Is it that we just don't have any ready?

Given it doesn't look like we are signing anyone else is it not worth seeing if some younger players are ready to step up and help out?

I’ve given him 3 years... He works hard & seems like a leader. He’ll make a great captain for Preston North End one day.

Im sorry for being so blunt, but if you’re a central midfielder for Manchester United you need to be able to control the ball & pass. Working hard & showing character is not enough. My mate Rob is a hard worker & I can vouch for his character, but I don’t want him starting for United either.
 I do get your point, but you sound like Roy Keane. To me though, he’d make a good backup. I mean, he’s currently 5th choice CM behind Pogba, Matic, VdB and Fred. Why shouldn’t he be allowed to remain as a homegrown player not earning exorbitant wages relatively far down in the pecking order?

    Brighton line up vs United
Starting XI: Steele, White, Dunk, Mac Allister, Gross, Jahanbakhsh, Bernardo, Burn, Veltman, Gyokeres, Molumby
Subs: Sanchez, Maupay, Trossard, Sanders, Cochrane, Roberts, Jenks
Dunk and White are first teamers, that's cheating ...

I quite like the line up, the majority of players rested, Dalot back and James gets a run out on the left

Most realistic chance of a trophy and Ole could do with one, hope this team does a job for him tonight. Fingers crossed.

Brighton will be out for revenge for the weekend but I assume they have made changes as well, so might be tricky for them as well.

SAF used to use the cups properly to give lads experience and keep their motivation up using these games as a reward. He openly talked about it all the time.

I'm not sure why Ole insists on abandoning such a tradition.
