Are there any younger players that look a bit like Greenwood as in potentially ready to step up and help out in some games for the first team?

If so I'd want to test them out in games like this especially as Ole is supposedly keen to play youth.

Is it that we just don't have any ready?

Given it doesn't look like we are signing anyone else is it not worth seeing if some younger players are ready to step up and help out?
We have. Mengi and Laird in defense. Maybe Galbraith in midfield and then Elanga as a winger. Ole doesn't play youth very often in these games, although people seem to think he does.

What chance does VDB have playing with that rubbish around him.
I reckon he'll do well actually. That midfield should have some decent shape for once and Mata is decent to work off.

The likes of Brighton making loads of changes in a game with us. Shocking really.
Lingard still can't get a start.

Hopefully we can get through tonight. Don’t want to wait until January for games with a genuine chance of silverware. The slog for top 4 just saps my enthusiasm. There’s nothing exciting about it.

I do not understand why so many teams do not care about winning the cups. Lots of teams also fighting in midtable and not playing in europe.
It feels like City win the cups easily since few other cares much apart from maybe Mourinho and possibly Lampard.

I think Ole has tried in the cups though since he joined us, but maybe not been enough in the final games.
This year it feels like he cares less about them maybe since he fear for his job if the league performance is poor.

Lineup looks well balanced even if it is a little short on quality.

    Expecting a 2-1 win.

VDB and Mata with the goals.

It’s particularly low priority this season due to the congested schedule.

I prefer to try and win everything but this is the one I care least about.

Yeah, teams like Brighton should try to win the cups. What is the point of those teams if they don't try to win`? Trying to reach top 10 every season?

How do you propose OGS manages squad fitness and stamina and motivation over the season?

Yes, but we have enough rest for sunday I think. Spurs got much less rest anyway so we should be in advantage.
I am not saying playing all your first 11, but rest only a few like the midfield and 1-2 defenders.
Hopefully this team is enough to win. Just not seeing us being strong on the counter with James, Ighalo and Mata.
I get you but personally I'd rather let these players get a run out while getting a full rest for the first team with maybe a few off-the-bench appearances like last week's game.
Brighton haven't got their first team out either.
If we can go in to Sunday's game with no fresh injuries and fresh legs when Spurs should be tired it stands us in goood stead.

Look at City though. Playing Sterling and De Bruyne in the cup. They have as many games as us though.
Maybe it will hurt or gain them. I think they needed a boost after 2-5 vs Leicester too.

I would say by rotating in all competitions in the easier games. Give squad players a game here and there and use the bench effectivly to rest key players like Bruno.
I agree we do lack 1-2 attackers to fully do this well though. If only we could get Sancho.
I still hope we will get one winger that would allow us to rest Greenwood, Martial and Rashford more.

When we have a squad as big as ours. You need to play your squad players. You want to blood youngsters in a stronger team.

I’m really not a fan of Bailly for example, but we need to give him games ahead of Mengi as he’s the one who is next in line behind Lindelof and Maguire and he needs minutes on the pitch.

A handsome win would do nicely here. Lots of disrespect being directed at United in the build up to this. Everyone having a pop. Yes, maybe we deserve it at the moment but it doesn't hurt any less. Hope the boys can shut a few people up tonight.

Would have thought Mengi would make the bench :/

That’s also the plan I’d love to see too.

The problem with that is we’d never have our best XI fresh and available for the truly big games. And the best XI would rarely play as it would always be one or the others turn for resting rotation.

we’d need a squad of at least 14 or 15 players good enough for first XI to do what you propose.

sancho Telles and DVB just about get us there. Let’s hope we can win tonight and also get the signings in.

Ole learnt his lesson. We wont win trophies with him anyway, so play second fiddle and hope to reach top 4. Hope he does so throughout the season as well

City also has an entire second unit worth well into the 9 figures on the market. They can rest their "starters" and still sweep away most teams, especially weakened cup sides.

Yet they play strong sides this time though. Although I know they have many injuries and have a hard draw for once. The luck they have had with draws is insane!
