I think these clips show what many CBs have been guilty of doing lately. Keeping the ball is important, but when the risk is to big, clear it. We saw Varane do it in CL, as many other well known players. However Maguire is also good at attracting press before he passes it. If he could just evaluate the situation better and clear it instead of stubbornly dribble or hit those passes in dangerous situations I would be happy.
Agreed. Like I said in my original post, it's a double-edged sword. When it works, it relieves pressure to the midfield and helps dictate the tempo; but there are multiple occassions where Maguire has misjudged the situation and put the team into trouble, and it's unfair to put the blame on the midfielders.

Exactly. And attracting press doesn’t necessarily mean standing with the ball waiting for the opponent. It still needs to be movement, to make sure that your only choice isn’t that dangerous pass through the centre.

Taking on a pacey opponent while a midfielder is available next to you? Are you joking?
Are you joking? Why do you think Maguire didn't pass the ball to Matic? Because Matic is in the poor position to ask for a pass!! Why can't you understand that there is no point passing the ball to player who is only one metre next to you when there is ''pacey opponent'' who is just going to press Matic and lose the ball.

Let me tell you where Matic is supposed to be, look at where Pogba is. In a reasonable distance place where there is free space & no players are ready to close him down. Matic was in poor positioning asking for the ball within a meter next to him where the opposition players could easily close him down. If Matic was in the same position as Pogba was, Maguire would have pass that ball without trying to take on the Chelsea players, and instead, Matic was just being static like a tree.

Is that the worst CB performance I've ever seen from a United player? I think so.

He must've thought he was attacking the Spurs end with that header for the first goal

I had no idea at the time what we were at paying that kind of money for him. In the days of Fergie, he's a squad player here at the absolute most.

He is no leader, not great defender, I wouldn’t exactly call him dominant in the air as he has no control over his headers. He is a fraud of great proportions. He is not worth 40m never mind 80m.

Terrrible performance. Woeful header back got us in big trouble for their first goal. Incredible waste of £80m.

Only thing that annoys me more than his dogshit performances is the fact he's undroppable due to his price tag and captaincy. Disgraceful. Must be trying to rival Ashley Young for the worst United captain I've seen in my lifetime.

Mr.Mykonos strikes again and again!

£80.000.000 ’well’ spent by the club.

It is remarkable that, after Lindelöf 2 weeks ago, and AWB last week... Maguire actually managed to put in the worst defense performance of the season so far.

Should have seen this coming after that shit show of a summer he had. Ferguson would have dropped him for a month or two to get his head straight but alas there aren't even adequate replacements.

I think he is a worse signing than Sanchez. At least with Sanchez, you could see why we wanted to sign him, but Maguire? I never rated him and I saw this being an issue.

Pound for pound, the worst United transfer of all time probably.

The frauds are the people at the club who thought he is worth £80m. He is the same player he was Leicester, no way near what is required at United.

This chap was the panic buy for £80m. When you're prepared to spend a huge amount on a CB and can't look past Maguire then you know we're in deep shit.

He's bad. I used to come in here after games where I thought he looked bad and people were saying he'd done well. I don't think he has ever done 'well'. He's a liability, his confidence is shot, he's too slow, not agile enough and loses focus too easily. He needs dropping, but for who, I don't know.

Woeful. Take the captaincy off him. Has done nothing to deserve that anyways.

He was very bad but I m.afraid he wasn't the worst on the pitch.

If he was any kind of leader he'd be able to organise the back four. All talk.

Least we can do is to sack Maguire and make Rashford captain. This joker doesn't deserve to be United captain.
