Why are you lumping these opinions in together? Maybe I’m an idiot but I will pretty much stick up for all of our players when they go through a tough time, Pogba included.
My their is in no way totalitarian. The caf is not a monolith.

It’s rather startling how concerned they/some are in regards to the welfare of Maguire yet enter a Lingard thread & he’s fair game.

You’re no idiot, you’re consistent which is all I ask for. If blindly backing players is your thing do it for all players otherwise they/some can take their righteousness elsewhere.

Our "Ball playing CBs" continue to have more trouble with opponents closing them down than the standard defenders we had before

The point of a good manager is to make these changes before they affect your performance and results.. a decent one makes the change after it happens

and of course a shit one doesn’t make any changes

show us what you are Ollie boy

He played every minute last season (is that a club record?). He seems like having lot of brainfarts recently. He is one player that truly needed a long break and then Greece happened. It would be better to take couple of weeks off, meanwhile settle that matter out of court and get the monkey off the back.

He's really having a rough time of it. I'm sure if the OT faithful were in the crowd, he'd get some much needed support but alas.

I'm not sure if he needs to rest or to play too get his mind in the right place

Yes because last time Maguire had holiday that worked out well didnt it. Cant we just accept that he is an average CB

Considering the price we paid I'd say he's a contender for one of the worst signings made from us.
And people said Ole's recruitment was so good. Don't think we've made single really convincing signing apart from maybe Bruno since Ole is here

You've clearly never experienced mental health issues going from this post, and it's probably one of the worst posts i've ever seen on this forum tbh, do you think his bank balance or how much his transfer cost was and value as a football player comforts him if he is going through a mental breakdown ?

We are not in the 90's anymore mate, the whole roll up your sleeves and be a man era is thankfully something of the past, i really hope to god you don't have kids, especially a son.

And where is the evidence of him having mental health problems? There isnt any, he is just having a hard time, so stop the bs of labelling performign badly and having off field problems in the press due to his own doing as mental health issues, poor excuse

I sometimes cry at night for the problems pro football players have.

It's unbelievable Maguire (and Pickford) are called up for the national team and start given their recent form.

Seems a bit weird that media and fans have already decided this is PTSD from Greece.

Reasonable inference given his performances have nose dived this season and there doesn't seem to be any other adequate explanation

I agree he is not a great CB. But to talk in general, a very well organized and disciplined defense can make individual look better than they are, also unorganized defense can make them look worse than they are. Individual mistakes can happen, no one is perfect, but too many of them can question the team discipline.

This same defense was one of the best in the league last season. With the same average individuals. So much that teams found hard to take shot in our box. Had I not witnessed that may be I would have blamed only Harry. But this season in 3 games defense suddenly seems falling apart. We cannot, or rather no team can have best of best of every position. Manager also must take responsibility of instilling that team discipline and get best out of available players. Also, player may not be mentally/physically fit and need some time. I would rather wait for that to happen first rather than blaming only individual.

Yep. He’s just on a bad run of form; when an average defender on the level of players like Tarkowski, Dunk, Matip, Lovren, Stones, Mustafi etc plays badly, then he’ll be really exposed, because he’s not good to begin with. Where did this excellent for Leicester myth come from by the way? He was constantly skinned by people like King and Wilson there too. Leicester robbed us. Their defensive record is better now with Soyuncu than it was with Maguire. Speaks volumes as bar Castagne (even he just arrived), it’s the same team otherwise.

We should have just blown Juve out of the water on De Ligt’s wages, as the fee would have been less than Maguire’s anyway. He’s not perfect now but will undeniably become brilliant and is already clear of Maguire.

There are some who think stress as an illness.... it's not. He doesn't have mental health problems for they're not simple cases. It's almost an insult to those who actually have them. Crazy...

How do you know? Nobody knows apart from him... Its just as much guess work to say he does then doesn't.

Also, stress at work is very much a mental health issue as it can lead to anxiety and depression.

Agreed, and I’ve seen the same sentiments echoed online:

The levels of hypocrisy from some of our fans and the media are astounding.

The Harry Maguire saga clearly shows how poor Southgate and Ole are as coaches.
Managing people is a special skill, Maguire should not have played his 3rd game for England in a row. Leaving him would have given him a boost actually. He was ok in the other 2 games.

Same as with Ole. Maguire should not be starting games for United because everyone knows he is in poor form.

I know Ole is trying to justify the 80 million he paid for Maguire by playing him all the time but it's clear as day that we overpaid for this guy.

Did our scouts not see any defenders in Europe other than Maguire?

No wonder the Glazers did not want to spend 120 million on Sancho, when they see our record signings underperforming like that.

People saying he needs a break are clearly ignoring the fact he had the option to go to jail but backtracked instead. Joke's on him I guess.

If and when Pogba is visibly close to tears after a bad performance you’ll see him getting a bit more sympathy too. Even more so if this follow a recent television interview about off-field trauma in which he was also clearly upset. Not to mention that if Maguire started posting Instagram videos of himself dancing, singing and messing around between these shite performances what little sympathy he has right now would evaporate very quickly.

This is obvious stuff. The only thing that’s astounding is all the whataboutism from people with obvious agendas.

I am starting to think that he is one of the players that would have done great for us if we bought him from Hull and a bargain for 15m, but obviously the big transfer fee and the public pressure is getting to him. It looks like it's going to end badly from now on.

How about feck Pogba and Lingard and their 3 years of more or less underperforming displays? If Maguire continues in this form, be sure he will get the same.

What a weird attitude. Do you mean a medically diagnosed condition? Because if you just mean struggling with his mental health- something all of us do at one time or another - then he obviously is.

Paul Pogba apologists are shameless.

He is the virus and deserves all the stick he gets.

Maguire is not performing yes, so is Rashford and De Gea. What you don't hear from Maguire though is him constantly telling all and sundry that he wants to play for Madrid which is every footballer's dream apparently.

If I was Ole, I would play Pogba in the Carabao Cup. We can survive without his inconsistent football and his off field dramas.

Don't compare Maguire to Pogba. The other one is a decent chap, over priced and generally a good footballer. Pogba is an overhyped virus who doesn't deserve to wear the Manchester United shirt because he lacks commitment and respect to the badge of Manchester United.

He needs a break from the team at the moment, SAF was the master of ensuring players weren't in the spotlight when they were going through a bad patch. No player should be undroppable from any team regardless of the level of replacements coming in.

Hopefully seeing the game from the sidelines will allow him to regroup and go again, not sure if we can afford him trying to play his way out of it.

Really hopes Ole plays 3 at the back now more than ever. Shaw/Maguire are shot on confidence and I don't think we can afford to drop Maguire due to a lack of depth. At least they will suit a 3 in the back with natural wing backs too.

Shocking post, so this inference that Pogba isn't a 'decent chap' but Maguire is, where exactly does this come from?
Everything I've seen from him suggets he's a good guy that's loved by the people around him. Beyond that, neither you or I have ever actually seen him involved in 'off field dramas' because he keeps himself to himself in his own time. But according to you 'he's a virus and deserves all the stick he gets' - disgusting.

On the subject of Maguire:

Far too fragile to be wearing the armband - making mistakes in games seems to irreparably destroy his entire performance. Now, he seems to be stuck in a place where his shocking form is carrying over from game to game, he simply has to get dropped.
As much as I'd love to attribute his form to his time in Greece, he was showing signs of this last season. We'll need to have a think about whether we can consider him a 1st choice defender going forward

We really are in a pickle. Drop Maguire and we end up with another comedy duo in the making of Lindelof and Bailly. Play Maguire and well you play Maguire. If only we had a summer to sort this out........

Maguire was good last season. was solid as a rock

Been poor since the summer though. Obviously the Greek thing hanging over his head doesnt help mentally.

Needs good man management here. Ole needs to earn his crust

Behave, what happened in Greece was unfortunate but it’s a weak excuse for a player who’s form has been iffy since lockdown.
People keep throwing around words like trauma and mental health, but until it comes from a good source it’s baseless speculation.
This empathy isn’t extended to other players, Pogba was abused by fans in our own stadium, lost his father, gets called out by united legends for posting citations from the Quran and getting haircuts and it’s been going on since the moment he rejoined. Where was this outpouring of support for him? Those double standards might sit right with you but I don’t respect it.

Pogba is a wannabe Real Madrid player and a virus according to one of the games decorated managers, Jose Mourinho.

He does not deserve to play for Manchester United, Fergusson knew that all along, he is only here because of the stupidity of Ed Woodward.

I don't need to personally know Pogba but his performances on the pitch, his media utterances and Jose Jose Mourinho's comments make me pass a verdict on him easily.

He is useless as a Manchester United player, has no respect for this football club and he must be dispatched from Old Trafford as soon as it is practically possible.

He can do us a favour and take all his fans with him to Madrid as well.

Some absolute whoppers from newbies lately

You’re literally doing it right now. You and the usual suspects in a thread that isn’t even about him.

You’ve also ignored the really obvious differences in the two scenarios pointed out in that post of mine you quoted.

Who are these natural wing backs you speak of?

Telles maybe but we;ve seen nada of him so far. Williams, TFM and AWB are not wingbacks at all

I also take issue that we should keep playing players who are clearly shot on confidence and form and change the ENTIRE teams formation just to accommodate them. How is that sensible and logical? Maguire needs to be dropped - Simple.

Drop him from the x11 and squad until he gets his head right in training.

He looked absolutely distraught walking off. Like unusually upset. Poor bloke is obviously in a bad place. No idea whether it’s mainly the trauma of being the worst player on the pitch while captaining United to a historically humiliating defeat, or mainly what went down in Greece. I don’t know the guy, so would be guessing. Either way, you’d have to be dead inside to not at least feel for him on a human level. The distress was obvious.

Being purely selfish about this, it’s a disaster for Manchester United. He
I doubt even he could name a single incident as the main reason for what’s happening. There must be a cumulative stress of being made captain of such a big club when the team is floundering. Which the summer embarrassment and stress will have compounded. He certainly seems at a very low ebb, that’s for sure.
I think its the weight of being United captain while we are losing, with it being in the limelight and much of the blame being placed on him. Same with England. When you at teams like Leicester, no one really cares what you do. Jamie Vardy went on a run of not scoring last year and Leicester collapsed and there was hardly a peep. minimal coverage. I genuinely feel the job is too much for him at the moment. Not everyone is a John Terry. Every mistake at United is magnified. You cannot hide or go under the radar here. We have multiple ex players and winners commentating on games who will dig you out also and say you are not United standard (Roy Keane etc).
