Is top 4 enough this season?

I'm curious because I keep hearing people say Ole is safe until top 4 is no longer possible , but in my mind we should have moved on from that target now. This is a good team and look at our bench tonight...there's no excuse for such tumescent performances. Relying on the counter and mistakes, it's cowardly. Struggling to break down defensive teams.

For me, good football, and a real sign of progression towards challenging for top honours, should also be expected this season.

I don't care if we get top 4 playing like this. It feels like the only improvement is made by throwing even more good players into the mix.

What exactly is Ole bringing to the table here? What should be the expectations?

I'd snap your hand off for top 4. We might have a decent squad but so do at least 4 other teams who all strengthened in the summer more than us. We are still unbalanced and lacking in key areas.

Where the grass is greener.
We were meant to build on last season, instead we've gone backwards.

It'll take a massive turn around and honestly a new manager to get us top 4 on this current terrible form.

It shouldn't be. We should aim to improve every season, and our squad isn't that bad. With how the league has been, threatingen first place the first half the season atleast should've been do-able, then eventually finishing in top 3 with league cup or FA CUP trophy, and go deep into the Champions League.

We should have challenged for the title this season or had a half-challenge.

The coaching staff and Ole completely failed. I'd bin them all.

It shouldn't be for Ole. We are not arsenal ffs. Last season was fine as his first full season but he has to kick on from that.

At the start of the season, taking our summer activity into account, I would have thought that finishing top four was the realistic aim this season and finishing outside the top four was certainly possible.

I'm not sure what was there to indicate that we were going to achieve any more than that.

Top 4, very funny. Top half we will be doing well. Away to Everton with no confidence, could be a point off relegation places by Sunday night.

At this point, I'd snap your hand off
But no, top 4 shouldn't have been the target.

Well, I'd have been happy with a top 4 and much closer to the top two, that was my expectations

No chance we'll get top 4 with Ole.

No manager post-Fergie has managed two consecutive top 4 finishes and that's no going to change now.

I was hoping for an "easy" top 4 finish and a cup this season.
Won't happen now unless the board does something now.

Why are we even talking top 4, we are miles away. I can't see us finishing above 7th unless we make a change and quick.

Top 4 will be a superb result after this start.

We've again done what we did after Jose got us 2nd. Not capitalised at all in the summer. Bought a fairly costly midfielder who isn't a sure starter, and not addressed any issue within the team.

History repeating.

We're not better than City and Liverpool so top four should have always been our priority. However, we'd have wanted to close the gap. That doesn't look likely at the moment.

No. I want Ole out because it's clear we'll win absolutely nothing under him nor will we progress any further under his leadership.

Apparently the crappier you are at management you get more time from both the fans and the board.

If that was LvG or Jose he would’ve been burnt at a stake until now.

The point is, should top 4 alone have ever been enough? I never expected a title challenge, but with the player we have i hoped we'd finally see some good football.

This saying "I'll snap your hand off" are missing the point. Say we do get top 4, should that keep him in a job regardless of performances or any signs of progress?

No, it shouldn't.

I said it before the end of last season, getting top 4 should be more of an incentive to get rid of him but this is a club now with no standards.

If we just make top 4 then Ole should be sacked. Top 4 isn't what United should aim for and when it becomes clear that a manager can take us till that position only then it's time to part ways.

Read what I'm saying.
My point is - he should have been off ages ago. Just the idea of him finishing the season tells you a lot about the ambition of the board and some fans.
Imagine Moyes making this start of the season whilst spending 200m..

Top 4 is the goal until we have a team that on paper looks good enough to win the league. We are not as good as Liverpool or City. Ole or no Ole.

I think top 4 was the aim but I think Poch is waiting and if we finish 4th but theres a feeling we havent progressed, I think hewill replace Ole.
Long way to go this year though and plenty of time to turn this around.

Having a laugh making top 4. We only did it because of the injection of Bruno end of. We are going to be bottom 3 by Xmas. Premier League teams have more or less worked us out.

Ole & coaches need to be removed.

Said before the transfer window closed that I wouldn't be surprised if we finish 8-10th this season. Don't see anything so far to change my mind. Is it good enough, nope. We should be top 4 easily with our squad imo. And the way Liverpool and City have started we should frankly be fighting for 1st.

With our current league position and the fixtures coming up in Nov and Dec, we’ll be lucky to be above mid table by New Year.
By that time, the top 6 or 7 clubs will be well out of sight.
No, normally top 4 shouldn’t be our only ambition, but the question is irrelevant this season.

We should expect title challenge, no reason why not. The fact we're in for another top 4 slugfest is really annoying.

Just a reminder, if we don't finish top 4, we will play Europa League or even worse - the new third tier competition - the Conference League. Feck that, I'd rather finish 10th.

what would you expect???

If you expected a title challenge this season, prior to it kicking off, you’re city-level deluded.

I’m past defending Ole but top and excellent cup runs would have been a good season.

Unfortunately, with performances like tonight, I don’t even think that would save Ole’s job

Every team in the division have improved their starting XI in the transfer window apart from us (and, arguably Liverpool, although they won the title at a canter) so it’s not a surprise that we are falling behind other teams.

It's not. And we won't finish top 6 at this rate.
