Well with United we don’t tend to make official bids until we know the bid will be expected. Hence why we are so often “preparing a bid” so it’s probable that we had talks with Newcastle & we’re willing to pay the 30m but never officially made the bid since their stance was 50m take it or leave it.
If he was available for 30m he would be a United player right now.
We did as Ole thought he could have been a cheaper option as a backup. We expected a James but they quoted AWB .
