I saw his post match and I feel he knows he is going. His demeanor doesn't look good at all.
Feel sad for him as a legend and a man.

It really is. His team needed a fair amount of time, and quite a few signings, to become what it is. All this crap we have to read about how a great coach would improve what he's inherited, conveniently ignoring how many signings both Pep and Klopp needed to make. Those teams were built as much as they were grown.
Agree. Recent times have proved- good recruitment = success. What Fergie could get out of players is long gone we just need to recruit really well and we will be more successful

We have good players so we will have the occasional few good wins. Manager isn't good enough though.

The delusion of some of these Ole In people is something else.

If two years is not enough for you to realise the guy does not know how to design and execute an attacking play style where we dominate and consistently win against the small clubs, how long do you think he needs?

We have a relatively young squad but it's at a stage where we should be winning things. If we don't get rid of him, we'll be at the rebuild stage before we can challenge for the league.
Delusion? In what way.

Two years? He has just started his full 2nd year. Last year we came 3rd in league and semi in every other competition.

We should sack him even after a win. Now would be the perfect time. Not wait for the season to be over.
Good win though, but Everton gave us far too much space.
We know that. You are the one that even want us to lose games if I saw matchday thread correct. Now you have to wait 2 weeks to support West Bromwich.

Works for everyone. No1 wants United to do anything other than win. Credit to him for the away record.

Needs to figure out a winning formula at home too.
I wouldn't bet on it. Just look here and in matchday thread.

4 years and 400m+ before he won his first title. Club gave him time and had patience. They signed right players. And after few years all the pieces were there.

Explain Klopp and Liverpool then?

We ain’t going nowhere under Ole. He needs 11 good recruitments just to get a 1/4 win rate.

Not aiming this at you but I am sick of reading about klopp and how you could “see what he was trying to do” or his “style of play” it’s absolute bollocks. They had potential, they where hit and miss then they spent massive on a keeper and VVD. Surprise surprise they become really good. They won’t be as good this year without VVD I assure you. All I could see prior to these signings was celebrating draws with West Brom
Fully agree with this.

He doesn’t he’s two big signings away from consistency and the level of title challenger. A top drawer centre back and right winger/attacker and we are pretty much there. But it’s Liverpool type spending (£75m each) which we ain’t got and we won’t commit to

I think if we win our next 3 P L games (West Brom, Southampton, West Ham), Oles win % is better than Klopps.

now there's loads of other things to factor in, I get that... but from some media outlets/posters, youd swear he'd lost 40 out of a 100.

he's definitely not perfect and I'm not sure if he's the one (I see positives and some negatives... more of the former imo) but there's got to be some patience, some balance
I am conflicted myself. Should we cut ties now? Give him till the end of the season and then decide?

On days like today it is the latter. On nights like last wednesday it is the former.

Kopp overhauled a complete squad with no1 remaining.

Oles not quite there yet and if he'd have been backed in the summer properly with Sancho and a centre back it would have been a fair to compare them.

Klopp was allowed to spend big on a number of players too. We need to see us challenging for the league within another season for Ole to keep up with Klopps Liverpool trajectory.
We need another CB, a RW and a MF if Pogba is sold.

He can’t do nothing with Pogba, VDB and Cavani. I highly doubt he can do anything with two top class £75m players.

He’s simply not good enough to manage a title challenging side and never will be. But hey if we can’t provide him with the funds maybe he should go Man City next season to replace Pep. He’ll have all the resources then.

Where you reckon he’d finish?

Pogba is not in the same league as VVD, neither is DVB and cavani certainly not. VVD is the best CB in the world. Their keeper is up there as well. Pogba Beek and cavani are no where close.

Don't know why people objectively always have to use Klopp as a comparison like there's no other methodology to assess the success of a manager. Solskjaer if failing to reach top four this season WILL be sacked. The only way he's sacked beforehand is if the teams form is absolutely catastrophic. Is Ole good enough for us to win things under thus far the answer is no, the team has no identity on the front foot and we are massively inconsistent.

The only thing many of the Solskjaer supporters display is a lack of ambition. I think Ole has a done a good job to his managerial capabilities and that's to get us back on track but the longer he stays the more we will have a lack of direction. This is what happens when someone with a lack of leadership qualities is in a management position.

Pure Jekyll and Hyde performances.

Absolute rubbish we will sign those two so called game changing players and still rely on counter attacks, still be unable to influence the balance of play over 90 mins, still have defensive frailties, still fail to utilise movement off the ball to break down opposition defences, still be relying on individual brilliance, still need penalties to decide results. It will always be a case of needing more than what we have. The reality is we have the best squad of players we've had in years we should be challenging the league with this present team.

If the hope is for us to sign players to mount a challenge is the impetus on the quality of players to heighten the propensity of the managers ability or for the manager to get the best out of the players ? "If we sign this guy we are ready to challenge" I've heard this same nonsense under Mourinho. It is a weak willed, naive absolutely shallow way to assess the credibility of a teams success. We will win leagues when we have a cohesive team. No fancy European surname will make us a great team. Who seriously is expecting is to challenge under Solskjaer ? For us to consistently finish top four under his tenure is a challenge in itself but an area he will be judged adequately.

This pre-defined style of play non sense really needs to stop.

Pep was ridiculed for imposing that style of play in his first season and everyone felt that you need to tweak the style based on the players you have, and those players were clearly not what Pep had been used to despite having spent close to 200M in his first summer. Almost 280M GBP later, he managed to play that way and win the title comfortably.

Klopp started off with a ridiculously high line of football, and Sevilla destroyed them in EL final. He still did not learn, and it was only when Spurs destroyed them in that first half, did they change their system. So people saying that Klopp had imposed a system there from the get go need to compare their play style in his initial couple of seasons and now. Additionally, Klopp learnt from his mistakes as his sides were burning out in December with that style of play. He realized that in his 3rd winter. Oh and did I forget he needed to spend 400M to impose a title challenge?

Ole has been here close to 2 years now (22.5 months to be precise), and there have been improvements in a lot of the departments. We aren't relying on a target man, and playing long. We play out from the defence and our Wingbacks more often than not make an overlapping run to provide width (depending on opposition). Our defence has been really good - we may have had some brainfarts vs Arsenal and Istanbul - but we restricted Leipzig, PSG, Everton, Chelsea to 2 goals (1 of them being an own goal) and apart from the PSG game, Dave didn't really have much to do. Hell, if I'm to go to stats, it was 3 saves in total vs the last 3 opponents and 7 in total if you include the PSG game.

No one's saying that there isn't scope for improvement, but discrediting Ole and the progress we've made on the back of 2 defeats is stupid, especially when he beat PSG 2 weeks ago and Leipzig 1 week ago

How about Mo Salah at Fiorentina and Mane at Southampton? Or VVD at Southampton? Conclusion good managers make players look good. Bad managers always Blame their tools. He has an £80m defender on his books and he Isn’t doing what VVD has been doing. I wonder why.

This is the biggest point people are missing. Liverpool have not signed one player who was at the level they have displayed playing under Klopp. It's a classic case of the manager increasing the abilities of his given players. The opposite is what's required under Solskjaer, we have a decent manager (not at elite level) who needs world class players to supercede his ineptness tactically / in coaching.

It’s good for my mental health to stay away from the match day thread.

how can anyone explain wanting your team to lose or drop points in order to try and prove your point on an Internet forum?

these aren’t fans. Just because you don’t like the manager doesn’t mean you should want the team not to win.

Can the media say he will be sacked if we lose before every game ? We would win the league. I still think we need a manager chance and he isn’t up to it but you posters that seem sad we won are a disgrace.

The problem I have is that he is near the sack a few times means we are below expectations more times than you would like

It’s not rubbish at all. Top class players make the team better, just look at Bruno. We finished 3rd last season and we only played well for half the year. He’s beaten all the best teams and managers so there’s no reason as his time as manager progresses so will the team. The issue is that we won’t sign those 2 players. That’s why we won’t develop as everyone wants us to.

People still thinking / hoping he will get sacked after the win today :houllier:

He might have gone if there were signs today he had lost the dressing room and players had given up. But this was clearly not the case.
The opposite actually: Despite only having 1 1/2 days to rest and prepare since coming back from Turkey and conceding early today, the players got a good win against a team which has started the season much better than us. And that at Goodison Park, an away fixture which has always been difficult for us, even under SAF.
Since the Spurs result / the last international break we have narrowly lost 2 games, drawn 1 and won 4 (2 tricky away fixtures and 2 very important CL games against good opposition). We were expected to lose to PSG and / or Leipzig, but we won and instead lost against Istanbul. Not the end of the world, we are still leading the group.
He is going nowhere for now. And rightly so.

Good win today and team looked up for it. But it's becoming the "norm" to have a good game after bad ones

I think if Ole is to go and if the rumours of contact with Pochetino are true then let's do it now after a good win.

I know it's not normal to sack a manager after a win and probably never done before. But Ole is a legend and for me him leaving on a plus is way better than another run of bad form and him leaving.

It's fairly obvious now that he isn't here for he long term. So unless he has the season regardless of results then with the international break and a good win maybe time to move on. Maybe not even sacked out of the club but just not manager and another role somewhere within the club.

Incidentally we sacked Big Ron in November and hired SAF

The inconsistency of the team is concerning but (giving him the benefit of the doubt a bit), we had no real pre season and a lot of games. If we blame Ole (rightly, along with the players) for games like Istanbul, we have to give him some praise for PSG, Leipzig.

We're in a rough CL group and likely to come through. We're 7 games into the PL season. He's moved some players out that most fans wanted out. His buys have been mixed. He's brought Brandon and Greenwood into the squad properly and Tuanzebe post injury (other managers wouldn't have?). The play (when it works) is good to watch.

He possibly has a blind spot on a couple of players. His coaching....? none of us really know as we don't see it.

For me, on balance, there's enough to earn the rest of this season unless we get knocked out of this CL group and don't pick up in league. A CL last 8 and/or top.4 and/or a cup trophy would probably see him into next season.

Van Gaal went after an FA Cup win.

There will never be another Fergie. And it took him a few years to win stuff/be truly competitive.

Nice try. Better luck next time. You see. Time is important.

Now I understand. Pieces are beginning to fall. Are you angry at Solskjaer and want us to lose because we sacked Mourinho and Solskjaer "took" his job? Guess what? I like Mourinho. Guess what again? I think it was correct sacking him. Not because of his tactics or anything about football. It was right because he, prior his sacking, showed a side of him that he didn't gave club any other choice. If he would have been more humble, he would have had more time to make us compete for big things.

Yeah crazy.

I was a bit guilty there. I couldn’t help feeling low after Turkey though. I projected my disappointment onto Ole and felt suddenly he was on the brink, and at the time all the media started really turning the screw and the vote on here swung rapidly towards “sack”. All these negative waves and there seemed to be momentum that might end with him being sacked.

I really had my faith tested. But a good performance and a win calmed me down. Deep down I still believe he’s steadily taking us back to the top.

Hindsight is a great thing but reality was both Mane and Salah weren't world class when they signed (just check the threads here). They were just good. Hendo was just an average midfielder. Milner, Lallana, Clyne were just overrated players. Firminho just had a normal season in Bundesliga.

He improved all of them 10 fold and formed a team, created a style. When you create a style the consistency automatically follows and that happened in his first full season (74 points).
