Im not picking a fight with anyone.

But it’s clear as day that throwing 300m people onto a huge land mass is going to see pockets of different ideas flourish.

I’m as liberal as they come. I’m not advocating Right wing politics. But I can understand Republican voters.

Your point speaks to mine. If states or block-regions had to live and die on their own benefits and weaknesses they’d be forced to assimilate principles and change aspects of their psyche.
Already happening, just at a much slower pace than if delimited borders were constructed.

Fair go. Not going to TELL you that it was funny. You laugh at whatever hits your funny bone.

But it does seem like you missed the overarching premise that was...

All of the things that Black people were subjugated for, are now experienced by poor white people.

The crack cocaine epidemic was packaged as a black problem.

The opiate addiction epidemic is packaged as an American problem.

ALL PROBLEMS inside a countries borders are that countries problems.

Black communities are chasing equity and equality. Poor White people are being brainwashed into believing that that drive is anti them. It’s not.

Far Right Republican politics only survives if they can create divides between oppressed classes of people.

All of the old redundant excuses for racism are falling. Only Old people and a minority of red-state young people are still on that sinking ship.

America elevates the rich to the detriment of the working class. If the white working class realises that the black working class are their mirror image albeit with more melanin, they’ll run the country inside a decade.

Chapelle has the ability to be funny at any level of comedy. I laugh at some of the dumbest shit. But I respect the scalpel sharp social commentary more. While laughing.
Those points certainly aren’t lost on me, and I definitely didn’t say I didn’t find his general stuff to be entertaining or have a point. I pointedly did say this. As a white person, I feel I am as close to understanding this as I can get, having a black wife and living in a black community for the last eight years in Chicago. I watched most of this stuff with my wife. And while we debated a few of the points, we both generally agreed on what I laid out before.

I can agree with much of what he says while still expressing some criticisms of other things he says. I don’t feel like those positions are mutually exclusive.

Thought Chappelle was pretty weak.

"Did I trigger you?"

"What is this, a woke meeting?"

Talk about low-hanging punchlines.
Yep. The same was true of a portion of Bill Burr's recent SNL appearance too, I thought.

Even for comedians as good as them, it's hard to make material as played out as that cancel culture stuff seem fresh when hoards of hack comedians from open-mic nights up are all doing that same generic shtick. That "are you triggered?" line is something I've literally heard other comedians say when mocking that type of clichéd comedy. Made me cringe a bit to hear Chappelle actually say it without any apparent irony.

They're lucky that SNL is such bland, safe, corporate, white-liberal mainstream show that even those well-worn shots will get some reaction.

Let him hold out until the count shows 300+, then when he concedes that can be large in the background. He’s making it worse for himself. Anyway, he’s golfing again while thousands more die and while his supporters are still crying in their huuge pickup trucks.

Yeah, noticed that too. He had a line like "What are ya gonna do, cancel me?"

As you said, it's a bit cringey. Seeing great comedians like Dave and Bill Burr doing that shtick is disappointing.

I can't remember why I joined this war.
You're oversimplifying it. I bet plenty of these people simply prefer Republican policy, so they'll vote Republican all time.
You are certainly right about a lot of them simply voting for republicans because, well they always have, or they simply prefer their laissez-faire approach to capitalism compared to what they think the democrats have in mind.

Yet the truth remains that they were willing to put a man into a position of immense power who had just shown for 4 years that he respects neither law nor diverging political points of views.

I know it's en vague to favor a candidate that you think will push through his agenda at all cost and everyone else be damned, the left is dreaming of this almost as much as the right but I have to ask if views like that are good for democracy in which finding compromises is one of the most important aspects.

That's why I find it problematic that there are people willing to overlook who they are putting in power just, so they will get their way politically or in some cases I'm pretty sure some people have just voted for him because he lowered taxes for them because if that is the bar that makes you vote for anyone who does that I'm very afraid for the future of the US democracy and if it will survive the next wannabe dictator who comes along.

Isn't that an old clip?
Could have been, but it was presented on BBC Newsnight on Friday night as being within the 24 hour news cycle envelope?.
Still their reputation is becoming tarnished...bring back Paxman!!

He's spot on. Narratives like Defund the Police can be damaging, especially in conservative places like SC. All politics is local in the end.
certainly no evidence he was doing better before that narrative, and fell because of it. otoh, we know that the ranking member of the senate judiciary committee hugged his opponent 2 weeks before the election.

I don’t hear it that way.

Both those guys seem to appreciate America in a way that few do.

Burr has a greater appreciation for the so called ‘fly over states’ than most liberal Democrats.

Comedians used to be left wing voices that criticised right wing politics.

That the left wing voices have abandoned the concept of discussion and negotiation in the pursuit of fast-forward-liberalism... that needs criticism.

I hate almost all right wing principles. But the idea that my parents and their parents can adjust and upgrade their operating system at the same pace that I can?... nuts. These people are not broken. But they sure as Fcuk can’t run as fast. Not everyone needs to move at the same speed.

The principle that says you’re only as strong as your weakest team member pervades. But equally, you can’t just cull your slowest people. That doesn’t leave them watching in awe. It disenfranchises them.

Imo, whenever a comedian does that, they're admitting their joke wasnt that funny. Stewart Lee does similar stuff as a deliberate joke. These guys do it because theyre annoyed their jokes arent landing.

Then it's up to local politicians to do it. A lot of establishment dems seem to blame every loss on AOC.

AOC usually gets the attention but it papers over the cracks that most progressive policies don't have the broad cultural support to ever see the light of day because of the way the US system is setup; where both parties are incentivized to pursue policies that don't result in them losing power in the ensuing mid term cycle. This makes the likes of M4A, Green New Deal a very difficult political sell, since the opposition will simply use them to fearmonger the public into voting Republican in the next election. The US has a long way to go in terms of creating the cultural conditions where the public are amenable to sweeping systemic change.

that's right
100%

‘Defund the Police’ is a sloganisation of left wing policy, pushed by the Republicans.

Democrats did not push that term. That was not a left wing policy. It arrived as a mainstream term through negative right wing amplification.

Senior Republicans hear ‘The Police are Bad, let’s get rid of them’. That’s what they are told. The message is really “Let’s give the Law & Order system more money, so the right people attend the right kind of domestic disturbance, to drive better outcomes”.

It all gets so twisted that those on the left of centre defend slogans that they didn’t even invent. It’s a joke. They’re being played.

What AOC has said so far has seemed pretty restrained to me. She even talked about Mark Kelly's campaign positively, who isn't exactly on the progressive wing. It was also largely a response to Spanberger's (leaked, as she knew they would be) comments blaming it on the left.

Defund the police is a very dumb slogan but the substance is fine.

Back out for another round of golf today.

Raking in the tax payers $$$ before he is kicked out. I hope his spending at his own properties is audited and the government sue him to get it back.

Would hope so but I am sure it will all be swept quietly under the carpet to ensure a smooth transition of the presidency.

Fecking disgusting really and knowing this twat he has probably hiked the green fees ten fold till January.

I can't see him being touched legally, not in a serious manner anyway.

He still got 70 million votes. Dragging him through the courts will only serve to rile up a lot of that 70 million who still idolise him.

Biden's message of coming together will fall on deaf ears if he is seen to be going after their hero. I imagine Trump will be offered zero repercussions for the lot if he agrees to piss off into obscurity and stay quiet.

From what I can see from a clip on twitter it suggests it was January this year, not 1 face mask in sight so I definitely do not think that it's recent/from yesterday.

They were charging the secret service $3 for a glass of tap water at his properties. David Farenthold of the WP is going to have the easiest investigation of his career with these charges. His "businesses" will most likely cease operations and sink before the next election so I doubt we will get anything back. The government should sue the whole family collectively and individually.

Then he'd be complicit in the idea that you can commit that type of behaviour without any repercussions.

It's the anti Trump movement and its turnout that has carried Biden to the white house, he'd be an idiot to abandon those people in favour of trying not to piss of a base that will never support him anyway.

I'm hopeful he'll let the law deal with Trump and keep out of it.

Tbf to him there's been a shocking radio silence from literally the entire GOP.
They don't care about appearances, they only care about power. This election has been more of a referendum on Trump rather than the GOP. Keeping quiet and not coming out for Biden keeps Trumps base on their side.

If the GOP ponies up the $3M or so required for recounts in Wisconsin, etc then you can take their ire a bit more seriously. If they don’t, then you’ll know it’s all for show.
