As always, you let the thread go on for long enough and the subtle racists show themselves. Right wing idiots like this are so predictable with their homogenous train of thought.
This.
Just say you have a problem with people saying black lives matter and get it over with.
No need for this intellectual bullshit.

I personally do not support the BLM movement, their political stances (defund the police and such) don’t resonate with me but if BLM has now been removed from football then why are the Millwall fans actually booing?

However I must admit that I am tired of some folks equating racism in the UK with our US counterparts and feel there is a definite Americanisation of British culture, mainly driven by social media. Seeing Britain blow up on the back of racial incidents half way across the world is frustrating.

Not to say we don’t have issues with racism in this country but the scale isn’t anything like what is being portrayed in the media.

BLM movement, their political stances
99% of the people supporting the movement have made no mention of political beliefs outside racial justice.
I question the motives of people who intentionally conflate the movement with a political organization.
It's like saying all conservatives are registered Tories.
Can people stop this bullshit please.

The media were making up a lot of bollocks about no singing being allowed but it is.

There's been singing and chanting at every game since fans were allowed back in.

Edit - These are the guidelines Chelsea have given fans:

Number 21 is the relevant one: "21. Take extreme care when shouting, singing or celebrating."

So singing is allowed but you need to take extreme care, whatever that means.
Full list below...
CHELSEA FC COVID-19 – SPECTATORS’ CODE OF CONDUCT
1. Supporters must attend the Ground in compliance with all applicable laws and government guidance regarding COVID-19. By entering the Ground, you warrant that you are not breaching any such laws or guidance.

2. You must not attend the Ground if you are required to self-isolate following travel to the UK from a foreign country, or if you are prevented from attending as a result of any application of the UK Government’s tiered COVID-19 restrictions.

3. You must not attend the Ground if you are suffering from any symptoms of COVID19 or if you have been in contact with any person with COVID-19 symptoms in the 14 days prior to the Match;

4. Supporters must complete the online Chelsea FC Matchday COVID-19 Declaration in advance of attending the Ground.

5. Supporters must bring with them to the Ground: o Their printed ticket (reprints will not be available at the Ground). o Printed evidence of the completion of their Chelsea FC Matchday COVID19 Declaration. o Photo ID (only a provisional/full driving licence or a passport will be accepted). o A face covering.

6. At all times and in all parts of the Ground, supporters must observe social distancing and avoid close contact with others not in their household or support bubble.

7. Supporters should arrive in good time to go through all the necessary entry procedures.

8. Make sure in advance that you know where your entry point is, and, if an entry time is specified on your ticket, be there on time.

9. Be aware that your temperature might be taken before entry.

10. Be aware that all payments inside the Ground are contactless.

11. If you need to access any of the Ground’s amenities, such as toilets, food and drink outlets, or concessions, check to see if any of them are not in use, and plan accordingly.

12. Remain in your seat at all times whenever possible.

13. Obey the instructions of Chelsea FC stewards and officials at all times.

14. NHS COVID-19 app users are encouraged to scan (check-in) via the displayed QR code posters as they enter the Ground.

15. If you do need to leave your viewing position, wait for a time when the gangway is clear and always follow the signs indicating which way to go. 16. If you are in a seated area, when moving past other spectators, to and from your seat, please avoid face to face contact with other spectators.

17. Maintain good hand hygiene – use the sanitiser dispensers provided and avoid touching your face whenever possible.

18. Wear a face covering at all times when within the ground, including whilst in your seat to watch the match. Face masks may only be removed whilst eating and drinking.

19. Please observe respiratory etiquette – always cover your mouth if needing to cough or sneeze.

20. Avoid hugs, high-fives and any close contact with people who are not within your social or support bubble.

21. Take extreme care when shouting, singing or celebrating.

22. If you are attending with other members of your household or support bubble, please make sure they have read and understood these guidelines too.

23. Thank you for your support and co-operation. Stay alert. Stay safe. Help us all – your fellow fans, your club, your sport, your community.
I'm always extremely careful when I'm singing.

Ohh, I forgot to add to my post:

Retired Army Green Beret Nate Boyer is the man who first convinced Colin Kaepernick to kneel during the national anthem. He speaks with NPR's Michel Martin.

Again, don't post your crud talking points without any factual basis. I was watching NFL when this all kicked off about Kaepernick.

I've seen the usual lot claim this was about disrespecting the flag, etc, Trump, Lindsey Graham, and those Republican lot saying all sorts of crud. But it's all bollocks and is simply attempting to conflate with other subjects (disrespecting the flag, riots, angry black protestors) just so you can throw dirt on it and condemn it. You're not clever and you're completely transparent.

I am not conflating BLM with a political organisation at all, they are a political organisation and so I don’t need to conflate anything. Ignoring their political stances and simplifying their message to being only about racism would be disingenuous.

I am all for anti racism movements but cannot support BLM, feel free to check out their political aims on their very own website.

What is it specifically in the UK that you are angry about in regards to the treatment of black people? Genuine question, what changes do you think are needed and what is currently making you angry?

The BLM might not be exactly what a lot of people think it is but that is nothing to do with the actions of the Millwall fans yesterday.

If you were at the game, would you boo the players or just keep your mouth shut?

You'd keep your mouth shut, because you are not a drunken moron.

You're trying to make a bullet list of things that you can just strike off as being solved/no longer an issue

Quite simply racism across the world needs to stop.

Again, don't pretend like you're trying being a clever debater or bringing intelligent talking points, you're simply being obvious and transparent about your views

Well if a load of white guys think racism in the UK is exaggerated then who's to argue? I can't think of any group of people who would be more in tune with the nuances of racial discrimination in the UK than overwhelmingly white Millwall fans and the overwhelmingly white men now defending them. Certainly the people I'd turn to for a balanced, informed assessment.

There he does it again. Most people who support it have nothing to do with the organization or some website. The vast majority of people are talking about racial justice. If you can't accept that fact, I have nothing else to say to you.
Your reply to @Judas is another reason why I should not bother arguing this with you.

Simply just saying “racism across the world needs to stop” doesn’t actually achieve anything.

It would be much more productive if we can focus on the UK and provide actual suggestions on how on what we can change to improve our stance on racism.

Typically you have decided I am racist because I don’t follow along with the current narratives, I am happy to listen to any viewpoint that actually has suggestions or can in some way further educate me.

It’s just lazy to brand people as racist in order to appear virtuous.

Plenty of white men support BLM.

Also, any race can be the victim, or perpetrator of racism.

Some website? It’s the BLM owned website, their actual website and not some third party.

To be clear I support anti racism groups and raise my children to do the same however let’s not brush over what the BLM movement actually is and ignore what they propose, that kind of blind acceptance is not useful.

I'm not seeing any defence of the Millwall fans on https://www.football.com/ so it seems pretty fair to assume football fans don't agree with them.

I didn't even say you're racist anywhere in my post.

TBH I don't even think it's logical or beneficial debating racial issues with someone such as yourself on a forum about Manchester United. I talk to people in my community, people who study social and racial issues across the world - and you're struggling to understand what taking a knee in support of racial equality actually means. So no, I actually don't think I'll put my ideas forward to you.

Agree. This obsession with American politics leads to the belief that what happens in that country is an accurate representation of what is happening across the entire world.

The cops are not shooting blacks in the UK mostly because gun violence is not common as in the USA. Ordinary folks don't carry guns in the UK.
But stats show that a black person is stopped a lot more often by the police in the UK than a white person. There is institutionalised racism in the UK. The fact that a Government Minister refused to condemn the booing is enough proof.

Most of the whites in the apartheid era also thought that there is no problem with racism in SA.
Anti racism gestures has got nothing much to do with a political movement in the USA. The kneeling did not start with them as others have said. They just copied it from Kaepernick. He didn't want to stand up so instead of sitting down for the national anthem they took to kneel down showing respect for the national anthem.

The problem with the "why are we pretending we're America" argument is that it ignores all the discussion on racism within the UK (and other countries) that immediately followed the George Floyd killing, which highlighted the fact that the UK's issues are serious and systemic enough in their own right to justify these sort of public protests. If you want to stop copying America then that's fine, but you can't then use the extremity of what happens in America to downplay your own problems. Especially when the discussion of what happened in America branched out and localised to different countries months ago.

The fact that anti-racist groups in different countries are rallying together under common language and symbolism doesn't mean it's just a response to the problems of the originating country.

I’ve been only to London and Manchester (only at Old Trafford) in UK, so I’m not really aware of UK ethnic situation. is Millwall a place where UK rednecks live? They seem to have a reputation of old school people (in a bad way).

I'm against the BLM organisation. They want to break up the family nucleus. They don't want kids to have fathers which means the kids are more likely to fail at school, have drug addictions, alcohol addictions, behaviour problems, live in poverty or go to prison.
Great. Whole new bunch on ignore today :) Now for lunch.

Exactly. Just as racists in every country is uniting to condemn or demean the anti racist movements or gestures.

The area is ethnically diverse as is most of South London.

The thing is with most of these fans( West Ham included) is that they joined the white flight to the suburbs and places like Surrey,Kent and Essex. Travel down there and you'll find loads of kids probably supporting Chelsea and Arsenal and others following Liverpool,Utd,Barca etc.

Rednecks (racists)here in the UK live all over the place but mainly out of the centre of large cities

I think you’ve stuck your head in the sands a bit there fella. Since brexit racially motivated attacks have risen. Plus you can’t fail to notice the rise in British imperialism idealism or the social media comments on literally every tweet related to brexit, Marcus Rashford, Tory party tweets, I could go on

Thank you for information. Suburbs are pretty much a conservative stronghold in all developed countries, if I understand correctly.

Just look at voting trends in general elections. London suburbs tend to be very traditionally Tory and right wing

Worst post in the thread and yet to see anyone reply. I don't see any repercussions either. These kind of posts are acceptable and tolerated only in Western Europe. In Central and Eastern Europe there's consequences and it's not a slap on the wrist.

So in those countries it's not tolerable to acknowledge that white people have an issue with racism. So much for free speech

Newsflash, you can be racist against your own race. What makes you think, that your race has any relevance whether you can get away with such an opinion?
Won't somebody please think of the poor, oppressed white people?!
