was hoping for Cavani but that might have entailed possibly scoring goals! looks like we might be going 4-4-2

Starting Pogba, the person who delibarately destroyed team morale before the most important game of our CL season, in the bloody Manchester derby. I’m okay with rebuilding taking time, setbacks, painful losses as long as I see some progress. But this is completely and utterly unacceptable and is close to a sackable offense.
While I understand the sentiment, and agree, this was not a one off. He has been poison since Mourinho was in charge.

What does that mean? The problem isn’t just the attitude it’s the crap performances that come with it. VDB should be starting for me.
On purely footballing reasons, I'd play Pogba over VdB. He was better than the latter against West Ham and RBL in my opinion.

I understand why playing Pogba angers so many, but I'm not one for cutting off my nose to spite my face. He should have come on earlier against RBL too.

Yeah, good call. Am still thankful they're not playing with a false nine. Pogba in the shop window, hopefully he can add to his value

We keep turning corners though. I'd say we're on course for finishing 4th, with no one able to say it was a terrible season, nor a great one. We'll likely go far in the Europa, and the League Cup too. Not expecting a major trophy, but potentially a relatively dignified exit for Ole in the summer.
The thing is, you just can't put a finger on us.

I have no idea how are we gonna perform today. Or any other day by that matter.

Our course is beyond guessing. At least for me.

Bizarre line-up once again. If we have a meritocracy, De Gea should be dropped. And nobody would have predicted that Pogba would start when we need a disciplined team to face City. And we know now much he wants to leave.
But there you go. We have come to expect the unexpected.
I really think we are anticipating a no striker formation from Pep. It bothered us a lot last time he did it, so that midfield is to not lose control. I can see the point.

Over the course of a season Fred and Mctominay is not a world class pairing that will win you a Premiership.

You can get away with a few wins here and there but we'll never get back to the top with those two in the middle. They're just not at the required level.

I can't wait until that partnership is over.
You might be right, but it's nothing certain. Midfield is on the bottom of our issues list currently.

Oh god, the narrow diamond with AWB and Shaw providing the width again

    Pogba starts

I don't expect us to lay a glove on City until the 65th minute when we realise the pitch is wider than 40 yards.

Having some perspective and common sense makes you a troll? Yes we know the standards but this squad is not the finished article. No one is happy with CL exit but we had an absolute killer group. Our squad is still relatively young in comparison to our rivals. You have to take the ups and downs that come when you’re relying on 19 and 23 year olds in Rashford and Greenwood to lead your attack.
Ending up on 12 with PSG & Leipzig then going out on goal difference = “killer group”. Gifting Istanbul their only 3 points = huge bottle job.

I don't think that is, more likely that Pogba and Bruno takes the left and right side. Maybe Bruno plays free.
I think it's more like a 4222 with the attacking midfield two splitting out as you say.

Personally, I'd have Telles over Shaw, maybe Henderson over De Gea.

Concerned over how quick City move the ball about, so maybe would have gone for a 5 man midfield or a 4411 with Bruno as a 10

He has scored 2 goals in 2 games since Raiola's comments were made. His motives are not right but those comments have not negative impacted his performances for us.
I keep hearing about the long-term vision and plan. It's about making a point, if you're disrespect the club before the biggest game of the season, then you pay for it. Not get awarded with a start for the next game.

You will have players who will see this and think they can get away with things like that, and they're right, they will.

Pogba. I can't believe it. He wants gone in January! Do you think he's going to give everything for us and risk an injury?

    Fecking baffling.
I disagree. That might have been the case in the past. I questioned how injured he actually was when he was out for a length of time and was seen at parties etc. But Covid cost him a move. And because he has not been playing, he has to show he can actually play. Otherwise, nobody would touch him. Remember, nobody has the money. And they certainly don't have the money for a good (not great) footballer who once won a World Cup medal. He has traded on that medal for too long. The fact is he is not as good as he thinks he is.

I am struggling to work out whether those crying about VDB and Pogba have watched our last two matches.
Certainly not, and they certainly don't want us to win... we have to play our best players. Of course, we need some game changers for subs, and VdB as a sub is a strong option. Same for Martial, who btw would be playing if Cavani was available on the bench.

Do you still believe Ole signed Donny? This is clearly not his player. Which manager treats their big summer signing like this? He's even starting a player who wants out over him which I don't agree with either.

However it proves woodward n Judge have signed Donny. Ole wanted Grealish n Sancho.

This is why changing managers is going to achieve little.

If it is the diamond, hopefully it’s Mctominay playing the holding role, not Fred.

3-4-1-2 maybe? McT in the back 3 like he does for Scotland...

I reckon Donny is chucking in a transfer request if Ole stays manager beyond this season.

Pogba can shit on the club and fans all he likes but still play for the team. Ole will do anything to cling on to his job mind.

Glad we haven't gone 5 at the back, maybe we nick a win on counter or via a pen. Either way Bruno will surely be pivotal.

If we lose though I pray the writing is on the wall for Ole.

Could be a diamond. Could be Pogba on the left of 4-2-3-1. Could McTominay in a back 3.

I've no idea which one I prefer.

VdB? Yes I believe Ole signed him. They discussed the role and it was clear VdB was to start fresh. They talked about it, they confirmed it, and people have to remember we put Greenwood through 16 apparitions before being in the starting 11.
So VdB will take 16 games, or more. That's it.

And I don't think people understand Ole if they think he's going to ignore Pogba. His goal is to have United win every single game. It happens more with a good Pogba than without him. He's on 2 goals in a row. We need him. Be happy he doesn't do a Jose and focuses on his ego instead of what's best for the club.

I dont see united losing this one. Ole has a way of picking up points in the league against the bigger sides. Hope we pull out a massive performance and smash them. One can hope.

This is why a DOF is so important but also one of the reasons why we wont bringing one in.

 You think Woodward and Judge didn't want Grealish and Sancho?!

It's called reality. You don't always get your top choice. A better manager would have had fall back options of his own choosing, and not done a Moyes.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
Same midfield four that didn't work against Arsenal. :nervous:

We've done well with a diamond when Matic is anchoring it, so it will be interesting to see if we have Fred do that job again (like we did against Arsenal) or if it's McTominay this time. Or perhaps we'll sit them both in more of a 4-2-2-2. VBD also tends to do well in that formation so I'm a bit disappointed he misses out for Pogba.

Don't know why Shaw has walked straight back into the side ahead of Telles. Would have started Ver der Beek and Telles instead of McTominay and Shaw. But hopefully Solskjaer will make changes early (if needed).

Don't mind losing a game of football but any silly mistakes tonight will piss me right off, especially against this lot.

That is not cos they are great defensively but that they dominate possession.

When tested by quality opposition, they have been shown to be fragile e.g. against spurs.
They aren't great defensively but have improved on last season.
That was a typical Jose "masterclass" 2 goals from 2 shots on target 34% possession.

I hope this is last chance for DDG and Pogba before long bench time.

Not co fident with 4 man midfield, we rarely play good in that formation. But we got some results do fair enough.
