No Bindings, no impress.

Seriously though that is damn impressive. The level of control on Zote is amazing.
It's fascinating to watch because Zote remains my most hated boss fight in this game, I'm still not able to deal with all of his bullshit. I always forget about Desolate Dive but this guy uses it so well to escape damage.

I was thinking about that the other day. I think I'd put it in my top 20 favourite games. It's really grown on me and I get antsy when I don't play it for a couple of days. I picked it up for a few pounds on steam about 2 years ago and only started playing a few weeks ago. It has me really hyped for the sequel.

Beautiful art design and the gameplay is so slick.

A must play.

I've been playing this with the switch handheld... Would I have more luck playing on a pro controller?

One of the best games on the switch, I think. Such a shame that I can’t beat the final boss because my joycons are suffering from some major drift issues.

Don’t remember what I paid for it (might have been on sale when I did), but it’s an absolute steal even at full price.

I'm not sure. I'm playing on PS4 but I do own a Switch with a pro controller and I've complained about its dpad before on here. If there's one game you absolutely don't want to suffer through those all too frequent false inputs on the pro controller dpad, it's this. However, a lot of people prefer using the joystick for this, in which case a pro controller would definitely be more comfortable.

I've heard a lot of good things about the 8bitdo sn30 pro+ if you're using the dpad for 2D games. It's supposed to be the best one available.

I don't know why I said Pro controller. The bolded one is the one I have.

Nintendo make the best dpads. If I could hook up my nes controller I think I would be doing even better.

With the right charm setup and all those soul statues, you'll never die, so you'll be able to practice each section over and over without losing progress. That makes it a lot more achievable than something like the Pantheon of Hallownest. And you'll become ridiculously good at consistently pogoing on moving targets.

Hiveblood, Grubsong and Deep Focus. This gives you infinite attempts at platforming sections, as long as you heal when you've fully lost two masks (so beyond the Hiveblood regeneration).

What combination of best for battles? Like bosses?

Depends on the boss in question, but I like to run a combination of Unbreakable Strength, Quickslash, Longnail and Shaman Stone in general. Keep in mind that's with all charm notches, so endgame stuff. You probably won't have Unbreakable Strength until relatively late in the game either, as it's pretty expensive.

I've said before that some people are just made for bad luck, and here we are again. Took me about 8 hours to get through Path of Pain and I died against the enemies at the end. I'm back at the start. I went from utter joy that I finally completed the last section after several hours of relentless attempts, to complete despair and numbness at dying. I just don't know where I've gone wrong in my life.
Yep just finished the Path of Pain, and yep I got killed by the two Kingsmoulds too, and wanted to break something. Then I thought about what you said about learning the path and thought I'd give it another half hour to see if there was something to it. I decided to swap out deep focus for quick slash for the kingsmoulds and less than 10 minutes later I was back on the last section again. I spammed the first enemy with magic then baited the other's attack. Thanks for the advice!

It was fun, frustrating and ultimately useful: The first section took me the longest as my shoddy downslash technique was exposed. But as I kept dying I was slowly able to figure out exactly why my downslash had been so unreliable throughout the game (inputting a down press should come just before the slash and not at the same time), and the POP really ironed out the weaknesses. I'm sure this'll help me in the Pantheons, particularly on Zote and Pure Vessel, who I often took hits from when missing a downslash.

Good stuff.

Going through it the second time, I actually enjoyed it. The game really doesn't prepare you for it, I think that's why it's so difficult. You gain so much skill going through it, perhaps a couple of similar but shorter sections earlier in the game would've really helped. And yeah these are definitely useful skills in boss battles.

From what I remember Path of Pain doesn't contribute to completion percentage right? Not that this is a reason not to do it, I want to try it eventually, probably next time I pick the game back up.

Whilst spending shifts looking after the newborn, I've properly been getting into this game and actually enjoying it a little more now.

Quick question:
How is the best way to use Geo?

I'm so shit that I'll die and will die again trying to get to my Shadow so with that in mind I tend to spend my Geo as quick as possible.

Currently I buy charms from the shops but realized that I hardly used these. I only have a select few that I use.

Then I saw online that some people have managed to increase their health bar.

How can I do this?

Geo is for charms and items. Early games it’s annoying when you die and lose them but there comes a point where you can’t spend what you have.

Health is increased by finding mask shards (4 shards increases your health by 1 face)

Thanks!

Can I buy these shards in the shops or do I have to find them?

Also, I'm halfway through the resting grounds, how's much more difficult does it get?

Finally, I try and airways save those green things in the jars... Not sure what the point of this is?

I think you can buy 2 or 3 from a certain shop but the others you have to discover.

It gets fairly difficult :)

And yeah you should save them all. There’s a room where you can view all the ones you’ve saved and you get items/geo for saving them.

Every charm has its use, even if you don't think you'll need it. Buy them all. If you haven't already, buy all charm notches from Salubra and get the latern, that's a big expense early-mid game. Collecting mask shards to increase health and vessel fragments to increase your soul vessel is mostly a matter of exploring. Seriously, explore everywhere. If you can't access a place, mark it on your map (buy more markers if necessary, another thing to spend a little geo on).

Those grubs (green worms) you're saving go to a room top left of the main column in Forgotten Crossroads (the one with all the platforms and flying bugs), where you can collect your rewards. Always try to save them. Some might not be reachable yet, so mark them for later. Sometimes the distinctive grub sound will lead you to discover a hidden passage or broken wall behind which you can find it. The rewards are worth it.

Thanks. I have the lantern but I'll buy more charm notches. Actually starting to enjoy this now haha.

Downloaded this via ps+ after seeing other people play it. I enjoy watching other people play it more than I do playing it myself, didn't know where to go, kept running into obstacles and dying so I lost my patience with it. Might give it another go in the future.

It’s well worth paying for.
I will, eventually. But it annoys the hell out of me. Why on earth do you have to "purchase" the PS plus games anyway? If you're a subsriber they should just be yours.

If your biggest regret is not downloading something you can regularly get for £10 or whatever then you've done alright for yourself.
Oh I haven't. Gaming regret (recent), I meant.

feck me I'm so annoyed at this game now!

I finally got a respectable amount of geo by trading in a bunch of collectables for about 8k. Then on the way to the shop I accidentally died. I was heading back to my Shadow and was nervous, palms sweaty, vomit on my sweater, mom's spaghetti... Then I died again and lost all my monies :(

Ok that is painful. Why would you go trade in collectables to carry around 8k? Outside of the unbreakable charms, you don't really need that much geo in one go. You'll get it back though, eventually you'll laugh at your annoyance for losing geo.

Tip for the future: if you're ever close to dying again when it's really inconvenient, you can simply pause and exit. Reload your save and you'll be back at your last saved bench with full health. This doesn't count as a death, so your shade will stay where it was. It won't get you closer to retrieving it but at least it'll give you another go.

Thanks. I traded in my stuff to go and buy some charm notches. Obviously that didn't happen...

Whilst exploring resting grounds, I ended up getting lost and somehow ran into a boss called empty vessel. I murked him in two attempts and now have the double jump.

I explored the area and got everything I need so does that mean I'll have to go back here later and finish it again? Or can I skip this area next time?

What do you mean by next time? You don't exactly finish areas in this game, you can keep coming back to explore more and find secrets as much as you want. The area you are referring to is the Ancient Basin, where you fight the Broken Vessel and acquire the Monarch Wings to double jump. It's actually not even adjacent to the Resting Grounds, so you had to traverse at least one additional area in between.

The Ancient Basin is an area I kept returning to loads of times late game via the Hidden Stag Station. It connects to several areas which can only be accessed from there the first time around.

I do remember going through a different section and eventually falling into it.

My question was phrased wrong. I meant that now that I've completed this section early, will it feck up anything later on?

An example, some NPC gave me a delicate flower, I didn't know what that is. I died a little while later and I've fecked up that mission. If I did it later, I probably would have been strong enough to complete that mission...

Off topic, based on where I am in the game, is there a way to easily get geo? I really can't get over losing all them dollar dollar bills and really want to get more charm notches.

I'm currently getting through the levels and bosses on 3 notches and the factory setting amount of life...
