Another extremely disappointing performance in a semi-final. Players were off the pace and we had absolute nothing on the bench. Greenwood is having the worst possible case of second season syndrome I've ever seen.

Decent first 45, became worse in the second, but overall this was a fairly close game. One important thing is Martial.. I have had it with that guy. He is at best decent, and at worst as much of a sabotage as AWB.

Oh, and Fernandes is in A MASSIVE need of a break. Ole... jesus christ, learn to manage.

Outclassed by a better team and a better manager.

Can we talk about Ole's in game management???
From a man management perspective there was absolutely no discipline or cohesion in the final third. He should have been off the touch line giving an earful but they all just continued to do their own thing.

good game to watch, utd played well but lacked the final ball, i think this is a good check for us not to get over confident and keep working hard....

It wasn't a bad performance, per se. We've definitely had worse. The problem is that we were playing a quality side, which just highlights some of the problems we've seen in our recent good run but have been able to overcome:

Vulnerable from set-pieces. Check
Struggling to create clear opportunities: Check
Missing too many of the chances we do have: Check

Took a shit goal for them to take the lead though. We were in the game i felt like until they got the second. Awful performance again from Martial. He needs a run of games on the bench, Rashford leading the line would be much better. More defensive errors, bottling the clearance for the first goal. AWB looks like such a liability at times. We need a top class striker, right winger and centre back.

There’s people that think we deserved to get something from that or think we played ok. Deary me. City totally deserved it and looked pretty comfortable. Not saying City were amazing, they weren’t and were also very wasteful themselves.

We just looked sloppy and everything was very laboured and predictable. Nothing clicked and nobody looked on it at all.

Positive? It wasn’t a league match.

You need a target man striker akin to Kane or Calvert-Lewin that can slow down play or frustrate oppositons centre backs by playing them in the air or disrupting their rhythm a little bit.

City were clinical with their chances and Dias put in a brilliant performance but you had good periods too, just weren't ruthless at all and seemed a little afraid.

He doesn't need a break. He's always been like that even in previous clubs.

Not even mad. Deserved loss. City was the way better coached the team today. Even with a team far from their first 11.

City were by far the better team and deserved the win.

They're playing as well as they have for about 18 months. They're more of a worry than Liverpool right now regards the title.

We responded better than I expected after that Leipzig defeat, will need do the same again.

Be daft if we allow this to derail our league form.

We never really got going tonight, City benefiting from being more pragmatic defensively.

Logic for not making additional changes earlier on? Especially since we were being ridiculously outplayed?

Lack of quality in our final third play really let us down tonight. Some very sloppy passing and touches.

I understand Bruno can change the game in an instant, but today it was clearly not his day. I would have taken him off early and given VdB a chance to show what he's got. He couldn't have done any worse tbh

Bruno needs a break and Martial doesn't look like a number 9. Honestly didnt think it went that badly performance wise though really, could have been much worse considering how they butchered Chelsea the other day, they didnt create a whole lot more than us. In fact if we weren't shit at defending and attacking set pieces this match probably wouldn't be over right now.

Thought Fred and Shaw were decent, and maguirs and lindelof weren't exactly bad either.

Awful performance. Unable to create chances.
Our defensive record this season means it's clear that we're likely to concede, so we have to score and we did not look like doing that.
Boring performance.
Too many spectators on the field and yet another poor home game.

Bruno clearly needed a rest.

There seems to be very little pride in this team.

Yet another bottle job.

Moving on.

Embarrassing performance and result. Our approach to this fixture since LVG has always been embarrassing anyway. Spend all those millions and play park the bus & try counter-attacks all the time at your home. Let City take control of the ball and the control of the game like midtable clubs. We were defending while we were losing and that says it all about the difference between two team's approach.

LVG was completely right: All Ole knows is park the bus and counter. His in-game management or signings are not better than his subpar coaching either. If we kept Smalling and didn't sign that slabhead we would've been much better both in defense and also in attacking set pieces. That £80m should've been used for a RW. Not for a player that solved nothing in our defence. Smalling-Bailly would've been a much better CB partnership than Maguire-Lindelöf.
Park the bus?

What were you watching?

Best team won. We are a one player team. When Fernandes is off form we are shit. Cavani cant come back soon enough and take that waste of spaces place up front. Fred/McTom just doesnt work against the better teams either. I hope ole goes and buys a really good DM now and allow another AM to play.

We got done by set pieces again.

Not having cavani and therefore having to stick with martial cost us also.

The difference between their centre backs and ours was the most depressing part of the match.

Diaz and Stones were a fecking wall. We didn't get a tap from them. Meanwhile, our two chucklefecks put on another show.

We were shit, but...for some perspective, Guardiola has won tons of cups and cup games in his time. We're talking double figures with cups. Experience won out. From the first minute, he knew what he had to do to win this cup game and Ole didn't have an answer for it. We didn't help ourselves with the way that we played and we looked very sloppy. But, the difference in experience with the managers is vast.

It's a comedown, and a reality check. It does feel like we are a very stop-start team.

defence looks terrible with bailly.. which is concerning considering his injury record.

i said before this game we'd need 3 goals to win it.. which turned out to be true.

Our forwards arent good enough right now.. we need a real #9 up there.. martial rashford up front together is terrible for so many reasons and im getting tired of seeing it.

We haven't controlled a single match in the league all season but the top teams seem to have cottoned on that if we don't have the counter attack we basically we have no idea outside of moments of magic. Unfortunately Bruno has saved his worst games for the bigget games and we didn't have the option to take Martial off because we didn't have Cavani's impact off the bench.

Bar McT I don’t think anyone played that poorly and we were decent. Simply got out done by pep tactically. Pulled players all over the shop creating spaces for others.

I do think that is now the 3rd goal we’ve conceded because Harry keeps letting them run across the box instead of dealing with the ball.

Dias was fecking immense for them. Probably between Fred and Shaw for our best player.

Fantastic performance by city. Picked the wrong team, Scott and Fred were particularly poor. Rashford and Martial weren’t really dangerous either which is happening a little too often, looking forward to Cavani being back. Going out of the cups can happen, it’s just a bit rubbish when it’s your local rivals twice in two seasons that knock you out.

First half was even. Their first goal was a sucker punch. Shaw completely loses Stones. Our defending at set pieces is terrible. Move on, rotate on Saturday and prep for Burnley.

City deserved winners. We struggled to keep any sort of sustained possession. Pogba was decent throughout, the brightest of a lot of dim lights. Wish Greenwood had come on sooner as he looked good in his few minutes. Feel we missed Cavani in this one as Martial struggled tremendously. Oh well, on to the next one.
