Surely this should have been posted in the Tinder thread?
What semis has Maguire even been in before us?You want to win trophies you need to beat good teams.
It isn't a good look under Ole now, 4 lost in less than 12 months. Apparently Maguire's lost 9 semis in a row as well. Would anyone be confident if we're in a title race with 5 games to go?
Pep never played a weakened side, Mourinho didn’t field a weakened side either.Tonight he could have played a fresh 11.
Instead all of our completely fresh players were on the bench or sat at home.
He'll never win anything because he doesn't rotate the squad enough.
Henderson
Williams Tuanzebe Lindelof Telles
McTominay Fred
VdB
Mata Greenwood James
I genuinely didn't give a shit about todays game if it meant we had our best 11 ready to play against Burnley and Liverpool. Those two wins would have left us 6 points clear in the Premier League in January.
This fecking idiot plays the majority of our best players who need a rest and LOSES anyway.
He hasn't got the nous to manage at this level. I don't give a shit about semi finals or 2nd places. Would prioritise the chance of winning the league over a Carabao Cup final or trophy.
Imagine being VdB, not starting the past few games, it comes to a tournament you've started every round and WON every game. Only to find out your on the bench. Oles not saving VdB for Burnley is he???
That's why the Ole out thread was closed prematurely.
Even though we lost, my god are we improving.
Grealish instead of Pogba today and we win that game.
Of course not but let's not try turning losing 4 semi finals into a positive. You still have to get to them though.
Shall we just stop trying in the league as well because we will probably struggle to win it?
You're right, he lost some finals before he got that CL-trophy.Didn't Klopp have a similar record before breaking the curse?
3, including EuropaOf course not but let's not try turning losing 4 semi finals into a positive.
Everyone agreed at the start of the season that we had to win a trophy.
We have been knocked out of two. Not great.
But we have two left so there is hope.
The real issue is what happens when we make a final. Will we lose multiple of them in a row.
We just need to keep our expectations where they where. No reason we shouldn't be able to win a trophy.
Klopp lost finals (including big ones like the Champions League). He’d also won meaningful trophies before joining Liverpool. No real comparison to comprehensive semi-final losses under a manager who has never won anything.Didn't Klopp have a similar record before breaking the curse?
Anyway, for those who think tonight's result is on Ole, need to go watch again. This is the same team that has been putting in shifts in all the other matches. Question them as to why they couldn't do it again tonight.
What curse? Klopp's never won the League Cup.Didn't Klopp have a similar record before breaking the curse?

I can't believe that's what you took from that gameEven though we lost, my god are we improving.

The comparison is clearly in the "pre" trophy winning stage. He didn't win anything with them and was losing in finals, until he didn't...Klopp lost finals (including big ones like the Champions League). Grealish instead of Bruno you mean?Even though we lost, my god are we improving.
Grealish instead of Pogba today and we win that game.
We talking about semis (Klopp's was finals it seems) and not a specific competitions. What curse? Klopp's never won the League Cup.
He did win a CL and PL though.
Hasn't got the nous at this level but you think he can win the league? Makes sense. All he had to do was take a hammering tonight with that terrible line up above.Tonight he could have played a fresh 11.

These are knockout tournaments, sure it’s disappointing to not have made a final but we’ve faced top sides, I don’t think it’s a mental thing.Of course not but let's not try turning losing 4 semi finals into a positive.

Agreed. This record with semi's specifically is less important than it seems imo. The bigger issue is that it shows what many people knew which is while we are a very good team, we're not as good as City/Liverpool at their best. Therefore while we go far in competitions, we can't win them yet. Similar to Poch's Spurs getting to finals/semi's and then being knocked out. It's not that they had some "curse" or were "bottlers". They just were one of the best while never being the best team. We're currently the same.Didn't Klopp have a similar record before breaking the curse?

My point was that narrowly failing in major competitions (a Champions League final in which your GK has a breakdown, runners up in the league with over 95 points) is different to losing semis in 2nd tier competitions. The comparison is clearly in the "pre" trophy winning stage. He didn't win anything with them and was losing in finals, until he didn't...
Ridiculous isn’t it.Hasn't got the nous at this level but you think he can win the league? Makes sense. All he had to do was take a hammering tonight with that terrible line up above.
That is the problem we struggle to raise our games against the better teams.Or maybe we just lost to a better team.
When Jose won the league cup our Semi opponent was Hull over two legs. Big difference.
Glad someone has their heads on right, even after a poor result like tonight.Agreed. This record with semi's specifically is less important than it seems imo. The bigger issue is that it shows what many people knew which is while we are a very good team, we're not as good as City/Liverpool at their best. I'm saying that as someone who's been constantly skeptical of Ole.
Yeah, it wasn't funny the first time. When it matters he bottles it every time
Trust the process
I'm sure they said MaguireThat was about Stones, I’m pretty sure.
What Pep did today was adjust his tactics when he was winning. Dropped deep and played 2 banks of 4 almost. As if they were a lower league side. Waiting to counter. The ‘big six’ managers all have his number now and he hasn’t figured it out or adapted. Too negative tonight and slow to make changes, went out with a whimper.
Well it's 4 at United, World Cup with England and League Cup Semis with Hull that I know off the top of my head. That's 6.What semis has Maguire even been in before us?
One for England. But surely he didn't have 4 previous semi finals for Leicester and whoever before that? Unless they're counting play off semi finals which are something a bit different.
The Caf sure loved calling Spurs bottlers though.Agreed. This record with semi's specifically is less important than it seems imo. The bigger issue is that it shows what many people knew which is while we are a very good team, we're not as good as City/Liverpool at their best. I thought Mctominay played well today. Bruno was the problem he was totally off. Maybe should have taken him off.City looked fresh didn't they in fairness? like they'd have a lovely wee post xmas break.
No big deal for me, we looked jaded and it's the league cup.
My only worry is that he KEEPS picking McTom despite him being in a terrible run of form.
Liverpool in their 30 years of no leagues still managed to have a good cup record.Agreed. This record with semi's specifically is less important than it seems imo. The bigger issue is that it shows what many people knew which is while we are a very good team, we're not as good as City/Liverpool at their best. I said this in another thread. He started off great in the big games now but they've adapted and he has no clue on how to respond. The ‘big six’ managers all have his number now and he hasn’t figured it out or adapted. Too negative tonight and slow to make changes, went out with a whimper.
