It's ridiculous, really. It's gotten to the point where I now recognise usernames in threads that have absolutely nothing to do with Ole and still think to myself: "oh, he's that Ole out poster"

I don't know who annoys me more: the snakes who play down their Ole out posting and try to act reasonable when things are going well only to instantly revert to old habits the moment we drop points, or posters like Amadeus and Mainaldo who are consistently in-your-face obnoxious.

I do actually think there are alot of fans who want Ole to fail. I know they won't come out and say it outright, just the way people post, seems that way.

They are waiting to see him fail so they can say, it was purple patch, other teams were crap, we were never good.

Then, once we defend Ole, we are automatically Ole in.

The thing is, they know that ultimately they'll be "proven right" because eventually there will come a time that he will need to be replaced, be it 1, 2, 3, or even 5 years from now because unfortunately that is how it works in football these days.

It's nothing if not pathetic.

I can admit that while Ole is doing a great job that there is a chance that he won't be the man to win us the big trophies. But that doesn't mean that he isn't and hasn't done a fantastic job and that while he's here I'll support him every step of the way. To denigrate him in the way that some do on here is ridiculous. I've seen posters who really should know better suddenly pipe up after the Sheffield Utd match, but in that intervening period when results were good, there were literally NO posts from them concerning Ole.

Yep, same here. It's cowardly more than anything else.

Agreed.

This is how I see it as well. I can admit that Ole might not be the man long term, the fans who say Ole Out use the works "We are Manutd, we should be fighting for titles" completely forget where we were when Ole took over.

The fact that we are speaking about title race under his reign really speaks volumes of how far we have come.

He has done a good job, nothing special but he has been on the brink of the sack a few times, he has retained the support of the board and players, again speaks volumes of how well he has done.

Ofcourse I want us to smash SU and other teams, I want us to be playing great football but that doesn't happen overnight. We have improved from the LVG, Jose days because we have really started to compete in some games.

We lost to Bolton Wanderers a few times under Fergie among many other crap sides. How did they happen then?

That's football. The unexpected happens sometimes. It will always be that way.
But it's not unexpected if the loss happens due to the tendency to start games poorly and concede early that we've seen all season. It's not unexpected if the loss happens due to the same lack of defensive organisation as we've seen all season. It's not unexpected if it happens due to inability to defend crosses and set pieces.

It has been a matter of time, and here we are. It wasn't unexpected, it's just that everyone who tried to point this out while we were winning were called sad, pathetic, agenda-driven cnuts who should feck off and shut up because results were good. I realise that it comes across as criticism rearing its head after a single loss, but if you're shouted down for criticising when winning, when can you voice your opinion without being called all types of names?

Some truly pathetic people on here. This was always supposed to be a 3 year project, we're currently in year 2 and ahead of schedule. I love the way that now we have to be winning the league or Ole's a failure. Stop moving the goalposts and get behind the manager.

The key thing for me is that I want to see appreciable progress every year. We did so well after project restart last year that its easy to forget that the first half of last season was grim indeed. We're light years ahead where we were back then, struggling in the league, miles off the top 4 and playing utterly tripe football, picking an attacking midfield from Mata, Lingard, Perreira and Lingard. We havent stood still this year, we've taken our best form from last year and made it our regular form. The squad is better, the football is better and things are much happier at the club. This season is clearly a much better season than last.

Its true there comes a point where you can't claim to be improving if you don't win anything. It isn't sufficient for Ole to be sitting around 3rd or 4th every season, occasionally touching the top without ever truly challenging or winning everything. But its worth remembering that we've only got in the top 4 on three occasions in the last 7 years - and on one of those occasions we scraped through on the final day. What also true is that LVGs FA Cup win, and Jose's "treble" did not represent a true level of improvement at the club.

I want to win the league this year of course, and its irritating that we don't look equipped to do so given that its so winnable this year. But failing to win the league doesnt mean we havent got better.

Convinced that he will just be taking Mata & James to Arsenal just to sit on some comfy seats, didn't bother using them on Weds and wouldn't be surprised in the slightest to see them unused again tomorrow either. Looks to me he is going to do exactly the same thing with Martial that he did with Pogba after that RB Leipzig farce

Jesus Christ pull yourself together. It's one defeat in like 10 in the league isn't it?

Burnley won at Liverpool last week. City have dropped PTS to teams near bottom too this season.

Thanks for proving my point that you’re never allowed to be unhappy with anything.

I’ve been unhappy with the way we’ve played for a long time but win, draw or lose you get shouted down for having an opinion.

You lot will never be happy because your Ole out. Even when we were top it's not enough despite the fact none of you believe in the team or manager to win it anyway.

Way we are playing is fine too. We aren't boring. Against City n Liverpool we can be defensive but that's understandable as they are better than us and also rivals so losing those games is twice as bad.

Do you honestly think we should play James or Mata against Arsenal?

Neither cope very well with being pressed. It's seems an insane idea to me.

You think Mata and James are the right choices (in what capacity - or capacities - exactly) against Arsenal?

Conceding soft goals early on was bound to catch up with us eventually.

There hasn't been a team around that hasn't struggled against a well organised low block every now and again, but starting slowly is definitely not the way to go about things. Starting slowly seems to be this teams modus operandi.

Ole needs to have us flying out of the blocks. Get a 2 goal lead and then worry about resting players.

Agree with nearly all of this. I think City will show that this season isn't so strange after all though. The best team will win and Liverpool will be close behind them. All this talk of it being an odd season just baffles me. It's it stranger than when Leicester won?

I'm ole outers.

But he has done enough to warrant next year I'll give you that. Nobody expects us to win the league so far he's performing above par circumstances aside.

But it's worrying how we bottle sheffield united mentality wise. The game shouldnt be lost no matter how you look at it.

Freak result happens. No biggies. But everytime we seems to be in chance to cement our lead we lost.

Hopefully this is just a blip.

I would much rather we took Diallo but it was more just about pointing out that Ole decided not to use them at all

Diallo is very young and hasn't even played a full senior game yet.

Do you think it's a good idea to play Mata or James against Arsenal?

Personally I'm happy not to have seen either lately as we have much better options.

I honestly don't understand your point.
What's the criticism here?

I really don't understand how you can think this. Do you honestly believe that there are United fans that don't want a club legend to succeed?

I really think this is the kind of thinking that perpetuates divides in the fanbase, the idea that those who have a different opinion from you have a malicious intent. Surely supporters of Ole (of which I count myself one) can admit that as much as there has been a lot to like about his management, there is enough to at least make some people doubt that he can win silverware. If you ignore that, you're just going to alienate those who disagree with you, just as fans who refuse to acknowledge Ole's positives do. Be the better man, and don't demonise the other.

It's definitely debateable whether he's doing a great job though to be honest.

If you said before the start of the season that at this point we would be out of the CL at the group stage, out of league cup in the semis and on course for 76 points total in the league you wouldn't exactly be jumping for joy (even though it's obviously not disastrous). 76 points will get you top 4 all day but it's not likely to be title winning form by any stretch. City and Liverpool letting their previous standards slip has been a nice bonus for us to add a bit of excitement to the season, but let's not kid ourselves that we look like an elite team. In terms of improving our points haul from last year, we have Bruno for the full season, Pogba has been fit unlike last year, Rashford/Martial haven't had injuries like last year, and we've added Cavani/VDB/Telles/Henderson. Frankly, a 10 point improvement on last year would surely be expected and feels a bit modest?

And that's just looking at things on paper. If you said at the start of the season that we'll have won just 1 league game comfortably (Leeds) at the end of January then I doubt you'd be enthralled at the prospect. Neither would you be thrilled at our defensive record getting significantly worse than last year. You could definitely make the argument that performances have been worse than results (the eye test will show you this but XG backs it up), and objectively the results haven't been anything special either which doesn't say much for the performances.

You say that but it just makes me think you haven't been paying attention.

Did you bother with the Ole Out thread? There are definitely a few like that. They are in the minority but can be quite vocal when results aren't the best. There's a few that have gone quiet lately and it's quite clear from the posting history of some that they made up their minds a long time ago and the best we can expect is a begrudging acceptance that he did an ok job, even if he ends up winning a title.

Did we? We came back from our bad start to the season to lead the table by three points by winning matchea and taking chances we've had to close gaps, go top, etc...

All fair points but I would still maintain that we're a lot better off since he took over. The football is a lot easier on the eye. We're not just trying to lump it up to Lukaku or Fellaini for the last 20 minutes after playing for a nil all for the first 70.
We have to give home time to grow into the job or it will be wash, rinse, repeat with somebody else.
Fergie took 7 years and our position didn't necessarily improve each year. We're not entitled to win leagues so we need stay patient and give him time. There has been progress which should only help us support him more.

A pathetic performance and a terrible result just at the moment when Utd could impose their will upon the league. I half expect a mini-collapse now, in the same way I expect a Liverpool come-back. What is the problem with getting at least a draw against the bottom team in the league? I just don't get it. I like Ole but I wish he was a bit more involved during games.

And Martial....what a waste of time he is.

Happens alot last years. Whenever we need to win to enter top 4 we buckle.
Did it though?

It's strange because I seem to remember we went on an unbeaten run for 14 games with a 64% win rate, beating our nearest rivals for top 4 in the process (Man City, Chelsea and Leicester) and rose from 7th to finish in third.

It's funny how your memory can play tricks on you isn't it?

We did have a few occasions like that last season, before we still ended up in the top 4. But last season is last season... Teams change, evolve, progress. It hasn't been an issue this season until Wednesday's match.

It never is an issue until city match our pts and pressure starts building.
But let's see. I think we're better than last season

I'm supporting Ole for the rest of the season although I still feel he's learning on the job and needs to improve on selection for low block teams, timing of subs and I would like to see more in-match activity on the sidelines e.g steaming into his players not tracking and tackling back in the last match.

However he's doing a good job clearing out the shite and getting some good young players into the squad.

One outstanding area - I want to see proof of his ability/reputation of attracting established players to "join the project" and the best example will be attracting Haaland to the club - we can surely match or better any financial incentives and if we stay in the Champions League this will be the final area to prove his worth to the club and myself as a long term fan. He's got the advantage of managing him and a fellow countryman - I know we've got the fat agent and dad to deal with but he's got to trump that IMO.

I would accept Mbappe if he fails !

We've pretty much matched City stride for stride in recent months. We beat Fulham after they went top... I don't think it's about not handling pressure or - as some thing - struggling to come back down to earth after a big win. The sample size is too small.

What i struggle to understand is how so many are quick to come after Ole once we play bad. Sure, Ole is not faultless. But it is the same players who are letting them self and the team down. They where just as inconsistent before Ole got here, and they can play really bad on the day. For me this only shows we really need to continue the rebuild, and keep changing personnel as quickly as possible. Judging Ole on the way is as it should be. But should knives come out every time we loose?

No, they shouldn't.

But as others have suggested, this really isn't a question of fans being fickle. It's more a question of certain very vocal fans showing up every time we drop points in order to say "I told you so" in more or less subtle ways.

They don't change their minds from game to game - they're very firmly established in their "camp". They tend to stay away from the major Ole related threads after good performances/results - which is to be expected.

Amazing how it took City just 9 minutes to break through Sheffield Utds formidable low block.
I was just thinking the same thing.

Ole has us playing some good football, but we’re still inept at breaking down low block defending. It’s hard to say who’s to blame for this but this has been such a persistent weakness in our game that we should have seen improvement by now.

We seem to be a bunch of bottlers. Almost everytime we need a result, we bottle it. The CL is a great example, we win the first games, once it mattered we crumbled
