Is Jadon Sancho really worth the 100 plus million fee?

Simply put. For 100m the player has be THE match winner. A guy who you can rely on to win you games but also push you on to challenge for titles. I am talking like when Real bought Cristiano or even Gareth Bale. Nowadays players move for 100m and they are just an additional piece in the side and rarely justify their cost. That said he is very young so you would get more value from someone like Jadon IF he succeeds
Thats what I expect a £100m forward to do. A game changer, someone who is consistent and effecting big games on a regular.

The problem is that the fee is always talked about unless he comes in and hits the ground running straight away.

Yeah. Its like a chain around their necks. Look at Harry Maguire. always getting critiqued. Jadon is setting up a lot this season but he has Haaland to finish. Who do we have? He would need to hit the ground running and score for us otherwise the cash outlay will always be brought up. They'll be like "is he really a match winner?" "should they have gone for Haaland?" I guess it depends if Martial comes back to life. Much of the Sancho chat last year was based off having Martial Rashford and Sancho starting and potentially Greenwood rotating but now Martial has dropped the ball and Greenwood is experiencing 2nd season syndrome, we look to be caught with our pants down by not having a CF

Dortmund cutting the price to €100 million basically says that come the end of the season they’ll take €80, they’ll have had an entire season with no match day revenue or big sales from last summer.

At €80 million which I think is £70 million we’re getting a player that could play for us at the top level for a decade, can cover both wings and as a 10, is English so won’t want to suddenly leave when Real or Barca come calling and also allows Greenwood to play exclusively through the middle.

Yep, its quite frustrating because whether you like it or not, Maguire has improved us and plays every game. That in itself is impressive.

Alot of his goals also come on the counter, which we don't struggle with, which means he would have to adjust, with that price tag, no one gives you the time to adapt.

Is Sancho even a RW? Seems like most of his goals and assists come in Rashford’s position.
He is not a traditional RW like say CHO or (I'm struggling to think of top class wingers nowadays, most play like inverted forwards). Anyway he starts from right fairly often but drifts a fair bit. Arguably he'd be more effective from left like is typical nowadays but he is fine from RW. For sure he'd give a lot of options.

He's not going to cost 100m though, I'm bemused how its being discussed still that he'll be sold for that much, it will be less.
Last 2 pages there's like 5 posts arguing he is not worth 100m. Arguing against who I don't know. Hardly anyone thinks he is worth 100m now. Most discussion is abt considering buying him for 60-80m.

It amazes me that people watch this team every week and come to the conclusion that right wing isn't far and away the biggest priority in this team that needs addressing, not having a go mate but it truly baffles me.

We have strikers Martial, Cavani and Greenwood. Could we improve upon Martial yes but Greenwoods development could be stunted if we sign a top young striker.

On the other hand we have no right wingers, none. Greenwood isn't a winger, Rashford isn't a winger (not on the right anyway), Cavani isn't a winger, Bruno definitely isn't a winger, Mata never was a winger, Pogba sure as shit isn't a winger, James well.... And all those guys have played on the right wing at various times this season and none are first choice there which says it all. With Wan Bissaka at RB we are basically lop sided and struggle to stretch teams and break down defensive sides because we have virtually no creativity or cutting edge down the entire right side of the team.

Having a top right winger will help the current strikers we do have to score more, it'll also help Wan Bissaka taking pressure off him to create and allow him to concentrate on what he does best, defending.
I suspect that Diallo will earn that chance to mail that slot very soon. Then the talk of paying extortionate prices for Sancho will die.
Re striker our strikers are not consistent scorers yet, we need someone to guarantee 25 goals a season to be genuine title challengers.

Even 60-80 million in this climate is pure fantasy. Deals like that won’t happen. And if it would there will have to be payments over years.

They want us to go into next season with Greenwood Martial and Cavani as our main CF. None will score more than 10 league goals this season. They may only have 10 between them. But RW will solve all our problems and of course lets not "stunt" Greenwood who hasn't exactly "earned" his spot yet

I just don’t see Rashford as a natural 9. Martial has blown hot and cold for years so can’t be relied on. Cavani I love but age is continuing to grow against him and Greenwood is unproven. I think in years to come we will be talking about Haaland at least at the level of Lewa if not better. We need to be in the mix for him.
I also think Sancho is a great player but I think he’s not at the same level of impact that Haaland would have in our system

Rumours are that Haaland 70mill release clause kicks in next year and I'm all for it. I like Jadon and as mentioned previously, have a familial bias but I would be physically sick if he (Haaland) goes to City or Bayern or even Liverpool. I just know he will score so many goals and our strikers will continue to be up and down.

I agree. I think we need a world class striker more than a world class right winger.

Hopefully Diallo comes good on the right wing.

its a great deal for everyone. Dortmund getting x10 their investment and sancho gets a big raise and heads back home. The Only thing is will we actually spend 70 million on anyone and if we can only get one starter I think an aggressive defender or dm would be the better use of the money. It would be horrible to let sancho sign elsewhere though when we have a free run at him and he’s perfect for all the attacking positions behind the striker. We seem to do things the hard way so it’s definitely a wait and see what happens

Diallos way too young, I don't see him being ready for a few years yet. This team desperately needs a top player on the right.

Ideally yeah we'd upgrade on Martial but I'd much prefer going into next season hoping Martial cavani and greenwood can get 35-45 goals between them in a balanced side. As opposed to getting a striker in who'll get 25 goals but the team is still lopsided and lacking creativity down the right.

A striker who guarantees 25 goals isn't necessarily needed to win the league. Look at Liverpool last year firminho only scored 9 goals in 38 league games. In fact its arguably better to have your goals spread throughout the side. That way you are not relying on the form and fitness of one player for most of your goals.

Signing a top right winger won't necessarily solve our problems at centre forward. But that's the same the other way around too. We could have a prime Alan shearer up front but if there's very little creativity supplying him down one side of the pitch then his scoring potential would be diminished.

We'll also never know if greenwood can earn his spot and develop into a great centre forward if we never play him there.

Firminio doesn’t really play as a proper 9 though, he’s more a facilitator for the way the wide forwards play. Salah scored 19 league goals and Mane 18.

Right now if you replaced martial with a Haaland we’d win the league in my opinion

True which is sort of what i was getting at, you don't need your centre forward to get most of your goals to be successful if all your other attackers are getting 20-25 a season. I'm confident Fernandes and Rashford will be hitting those numbers by the and of the season. If only we had someone wide right matching that.

Perhaps but on the same token if we had a top right winger creating more goals for the strikers we do have while also getting around 20 themselves, instead of the square pegs we've had struggling out there i think we'd be top of the league right now.

I'm not arguing we don't need a top centre forward or that i wouldn't love a top striker like Haaland at United. But i'm a United fan who grew up watching Fergusons teams which almost always had top wingers. So having to watch the likes of Mata and Lingard and to be fair others struggle in the position for years is brutal. We haven't had a top right winger since Nani/Valencia and haven't signed one really since 2009. Which is nuts, for me it's the priority and what this current side is missing the most.

I think it's likely United will look for a striker this summer; probably Haarland.

By the time the transfer window opens in June we will know just how effective the vaccines are. We will probably know by then if crowds will be back in Aug.
Well the Euros happen in June, so I'm expecting we will have an announcement about crowds in the next month or two no?

It much depend on........Greenwood. If Greenwood can lead our line then Jadon would come handy at the right price. Cavani will cover Greenwood for next year, Martial will cover/compete with Rashford for the LW and Diallo + Jadon would fight it up on the RW. 100M is a bit too steep for a winger whose hardly doing that well in the farmer's league but we could do business at 70m-80m mark especially if we can get 20m for Lingard and 10m for Chong. After last summer Dortmund should act nice and throw a first refusal on Bellingham. There's nothing nicer then having clubs admitting their place in football, United being a top club and Dortmund being a selling club.

If Greenwood is more comfortable as a RW then thanks but no thanks. No desrespect towards Jadon but Mason has actually proven himself in a top league

Diallo has been playing ahead of his age group with Atalanta ie the best youth academy in Italy. Prior to us signing him up he was going to Parma to play regular first team football. This boy is more ready then we think

Is he first teamer level? Not yet. However he doesn't need to. Greenwood can cover that role and unlike Jadon his stats come from a top league

Diallo is only 2 years younger than Sancho though. Same age when Greenwood broke in last season.

We have to do what Woody said: Take advantage of the situation. The best time to invest is during crisis; buy low.

Kalidou Koulibaly was 90-100m and asking price today is approx 60m, meaning they likely sell him for 50m.

Sancho was 100-120m.Today his value probably is approx 60m. I think that‘a a fair price today, and we shouldn’t hesitate. In 1-2y we will look back on today’s deals and scream bargain

Dortmund will wait the situation as long as possible, but I think they have to sell him after this season, and this summer is our last chance to do real bargains.

I think everything points to him signing for Chelsea in the summer. Tuchel will realize he's among the best in the bundesliga, that adding English players will be good for his squad, and with Ziyech flattering to decieve so far.

I doubt Ole has interest anymore after landing Diallo.

I think will be signing a big money CB and then probably a couple more unheard of kids with huge potential and that will be our summer done. Wouldn't say no to Danny Ings as Cavani back up too.

Can't spell Mkhitaryan
Spend it on grealish.

Big fan of him but he plays at his best from the left, Rashford will occupy that spot. People will say Grealish can play through the middle but we have Bruno. Play him in a CM role? That would be putting a square peg in a round hole besides, I'm not too sure he's defensively solid enough to play alongside one of Fred/McT.

I believe Grealish is a better player than Rashford but there's noway golden boy will be moved aside for Jack to come in.

Definitely would love to see him join us. Really don't get all the hype over Sancho. He looks good but not the generational talent like some folk have said.
Well generational gets tossed around left and right when it only applies to very few names in the history of the game. That said, what Sancho has done so far, production-wise, puts him on a very short list of top players. He's had a rough start to this season, but you can still see the signs are there that he's a special talent who's also five years younger than Grealish who wouldn't come cheap either. If it's a big difference in fees, and Grealish is the cheaper option, for sure I'd go for him, but if it's relatively close, I'm picking Sancho.

100m looks extreme in this market.

An extreme amount of dough demands an extreme level of player.

So - no.

He isn't that.

If I had 100m to splash on any player in Europe right now, I'd probably go for Haaland.

I would say we should try to get him for 80-90 Mio EUR this summer. Our priorities should be a CDM and a CB, but the big clubs will start to recover once we have left this crisis behind and then things get more complicated.

imagine grealish on the left pinging in balls to Bruno/rashford/Cavani (if he stays another season).I think all 3 of those players can switch it up enough on the pitch and would give defenders nightmares!

People saying 80m for him need to give their heads a wobble. £50-60m is the max I'd pay, I have serious concerns whether he'd adapt well to the PL. I've watched him a lot and he's very talented on the ball but he doesn't have the explosive dribbling of someone like Neymar - he's closer to Mikhitaryan in that regard.

I'd much rather go for ASM who is far more athletic on the ball.
