Is Jadon Sancho really worth the 100 plus million fee?

this is true. Since 2013 we have been signing stop gap strikers and a square peg in Lukaku who we haven't Replaced. Time we go all out for a top class one.

Given the choice of Halaand or Sancho then we have to go Halaand for me.

But if no Halaand then snap Sancho up and keep Edi for a season
Yeah my thoughts too but are the club thinking even remotely in the same way

He’s still my no.1 target. For all those saying we should buy Haaland, exactly who is going to supply his goals? We don’t create enough chances for our strikers, some of the lowest statistically in the whole league. Martial, Greenwood and Rashford are all finishers first and foremost and creators second.
Haaland would come in and be marginally better than Cavani IMO because he just won’t get the consistent chances he does at Dortmund.
bring in Sancho now, move to a team that has an eye on creating ahead of finishing first and then we will be ready for someone like Haaland.

I wholeheartedly agree; I'm kind of hoping that after the debacle that was last year, we have some sort of gentleman's agreement with Sancho that we'll be back for him in the summer.
I'm also hoping/guessing? that Ole's chomping-at-the-bit to get Sancho in the side.
I'm losing confidence in regards to any hope that Haaland will end up at Old Trafford any time soon; not with City and Abramovich on the hunt, let alone the big continental clubs.

 Most goals scored in the PL and Haaland marginally better than Cavani is one of the worst posts I’ve seen here in a while .

It’s not though. We may have scored the most goals but often they are something out of nothing from either Bruno or our wide players that are actually strikers. If you look at the stats our Strikers that play up top get UNDER two opportunities per game, amongst the lowest in the league. Haaland is a fantastic player but he’s a finisher. He doesn’t make all his goals for himself, he runs on to stuff and uses his pace and powerful shot. He won’t get those chances here.
I stand by what I say and I don’t think it’s ridiculous at all. Do you think we score lots of goals with great play in to our strikers for headers or goals at the near/back post?

As much as i like Sancho, if there's a choice between him and Haaland, it's a no brainer. We would be favourites for the league with Haaland

No you wouldn’t be. Haaland doesn’t put United over City. Him and Sancho though? I would have to think so.
I definitely don’t agree that Haaland would be marginally better than Cavani, I think people underestimate that he’s more than just a finisher even if that’s definitely what he excels at over other parts of his game. He’s an evolving player but he’s not going to be the one arrival that wins United the league as presently constructed. He’s not doing that with Dortmund because their defense is poor and United still needs to clean that department themselves to be a consistent threat for the league honors.

I just don’t agree. We do not create goal scoring opportunities like Dortmund do. We’ve got a left winger who’s a greedy striker, a right winger who’s even more of a greedy striker and another left winger than plays up front and is also a greedy striker. All three like to cut in and shoot, all three annoy the hell out of Cavani when they cut back and don’t cross early (as seen with his arm gestures during games). That’s not any of their faults, they are finishers and not creators. Sancho is a creator and a natural wide player/no.10. I think we need to share the creative load more before we are ready for a proper number 9. My favourite ever player is Ruud Van Nistelrooy and he wouldn’t score that many in this team.

for me a great striker is the last piece of this puzzle. We’ve got many more missing pieces to put in place first

He's scored 45 goals and assisted 59 so far for Dortmund. He's 20. Quite remarkable.

Totally agree. We need creativity from the wings more than a striker. Ideal would be if Dortmund MAKE the CL this year and Haaland stays. Sancho is likely to be sold this summer, per Watzke mutterings, and we could integrate him this year. Glazers would not buy both in one summer and wouldn’t buy Haaland at a premium to his RC anyway, so we could then add Haaland the next when it becomes active. The problem with this plan is that big teams will test Dortmund and try to buy him above his RC this summer.

Does Ole want a left footed RW cutting in and shooting?

Or a Sancho crossing and cutting back?

We currently only have 1 striker to get on the end of things.

I don't know a whole lot about Sancho but Depay put up big numbers before united but couldn't beat premier league defenders, not even enough to cut in and shoot.

If Sancho was left footed I think it would be a no brainer but we don't seem to play a system with old fashioned wingers.

I'm not so sure we should prioritise a creator over a striker, we could add creative players to the squad but if they're still setting up the likes of Martial/Cavani how much do we honestly improve? I probably have more faith in our other forwards to create for a top striker than I would in a new creative player making our current strikers score more goals. After a striker I absolutely agree a right wing is the next most important hole to fill (despite the clamour for a CB and a DM), but I genuinely think striker is our weakest position in the squad right now I would be disappointed if a new striker isn't a priority this summer.

He’s fantastic, and will also help us to keep possession/build attacks as he isn’t the typical high-possession turnover winger. He’s more like Hazard/Bernardo Silva - and would be like adding a classic 10 to the team in some ways.

I do have a feeling that Amad will be special, and it isn’t as if Amad is 18 and Sancho is 28 either. For that reason, I’d still choose Haaland. Rashford will never be left out of the team on the left, so Sancho, Greenwood and Amad will try to work out the RW between them - and you would think Sancho would just start every game. That said, I do think if the players develop, they will also out pressure the 10 role. The Amad/Sancho type wingers are like 10 hybrids - and if they are world class players who can’t all fit into the XI, I think they will also compete for the 10 role over time.

Yeah if he only takes a 3 million a year salary from us.... saving us a few million a year for a few years to recoup money that we lost by overspending when paying 100+mil for him.

A lot of chatter earlier in the season about Sancho being a bust. I think we can see his quality. That’s three straight years of quality production. Now at 12 goals and 14 assists in 31 apps. Where would we be with half that production from our RW?

I think that Woody should table a significant offer early for a few reasons. First, Dortmund are hurting financially and need some certainty. Second, with the Euros this summer and Sancho being in the mix for the first choice 11, if things break right for him and the England squad, he could tack on an extra 50% to his transfer fee and a significant wage jump.

He's not really playing RW anymore. Even last season it was 50/50, this season he's primarily occupying the left wing. It was more or less clear he'd develop in this direction as he's definitely an inverted winger who's more comfortable driving into the center than holding the line.

Eh. I watch a lot of Dortmund and when Favre was manager, he played a lot on the RW, with Reyna on the left. They would interchange frequently. Now that Reus has replaced Reyna, he plays a bit more as an LW, with him and Reus interchanging frequently. Are you saying he’s not effective as a RW, because clearly, that’s not the case. In my opinion, where he plays hinges more on the opponent LB or RB rather than a set position. Seems to get more assists on the right and more goals on the left.

Those that said that are probably his biggest fan again. A quality young player will always go through rough patches of form, thats when they learn and become a better player.

Reading some of the chatter on the Dortmund boards, a lot of people say he needs movement around him to make things happen. That kind of worries me because....we don't do that.

I've been saying the same. He needs off the ball movement to drag opposition players out of position.

He's effective as a RW but even better as a left wing. I also disagree that he played more RW under Favre. Even when Hakimi was still there last season he spent lots of time on the ledt flank, arguably even more than on the right. After Hakimi's gone it was clear he prefers the left wing and occupied it significantly more than the other wing. It became even more obvious after the switch to Favre.

And it was only a matter of time, IMO. Even as a RW, Sancho preferred to cut inside. With his skill set you need him in tight spaces in the center and he's got more options if he has the ball on his strong foot doing so.

Teams aren't playing against us like they were. Most teams now sit back and look to frustrate us because they know it works. Even good sides do it. City didnt go gung ho against us because of what we did to them last season. Chelsea were defensive and so were Arsenal.

Sancho is all kinds of wrong for us for that fee. Without space in behind to exploit I don't see how he offers us a great deal more than Dan James. He's a better player than James of course but without the space to exploit I don't see the point of him at all.

This is just wrong. West Ham, Brighton, Southampton, WBA (under Bilic), Sheffield United first fixture, Palace away, Aston Villa (OT) are all examples of smaller clubs where the games did not have them sit back and frustrate us. This is before I consider the teams with stronger sides on paper, i.e. your Everton/Chelsea/Spurs/City/Liverpool fixtures.

He doesn't need space in behind but is ideal against teams who defend deep. He's a player who cuts in and provides craft and guile.

I'll say it - he will instantly elevate us another level. He was in poor form earlier on in the season but he's been solid whenever I watched him play recently. He also carries the ball very well and we have very few of those in the team.

Ultimately you need people who can beat their man 1v1 and almost none of our players can do that consistently.

Big bad take.

Sancho has both sides in his locker.
