Remember when Fergie would throw on young players like Federico Macheda when we needed to win?

Is he supposed to be unhappy to be in the job? Desperate to keep his job safely? As opposed to un-safely? Genuine question, I'm confused as to what this actually means.
He supposed to be driven to want the best for the club. He’s playing garbage football to get enough points to stay top four and retain his job. He should be very unhappy to be in the job right now, because he’s performing fecking woefully. That’s what winners do. They strive for better. Second is nothing.

Disgraceful performance by all involved, Ole included. I’m one of his more vocal supporters in here, but even I can’t defend what was at display today.

He’ll need to turn it around. Quickly.

 Where did I say that?

Our form's been terrible lately. We've missed Pogba and Cavani badly, and Martial, Rashford and Bruno have been poor for weeks. Problem is, who do you drop them for? There's the issue.

So who do we hire then? In the summer, who's the manager we replace Ole with?
Here we go, the old adage used to keep him in a job. Surely there's no one better than Ole. We shouldn't even try and take a risk on a young up and coming manager like Nagelsmann. I mean what has he achieved besides being revered as one of the best coaches in the world compared to the great Ole who no club would touch with a bargepole if we let go of him tomorrow.

We missed the boat on Poch. Sure he's not perfect, but he's still 100x the coach Ole will ever be. We keep making it more difficult for ourselves while all the viable options of alternative managers become unavailable.

To be fair, if we'd have spent £500m we'd be doing a lot better, so good point well made.
Would we? We spent shithoads of money in the last years, close to what City spent. The gap in quality between us and them is shocking and it's not getting closer. Splashing cash got us nowhere, I think it's time we invested in a good manager.

Fergie wasn't afraid of gambling on younger players when things weren't working out. Ole is so incredibly predictable when he finally brings on a sub, which is always way too late for them to make a meaningful impact.

We should have replaced him with Pochettino or Tuchel whilst we had the chance. Only decent option now is Nagelsmann

He cant coach.

He copies what he saw under Ferguson. He can use those same methods to motivate players and hes good at creating the club spirit, but when it comes down to a game of football on the pitch he doesnt see what's going on. Nothing is going to change that.

The difference between us and Cardiff is we have much better players and facilities. The level of coaching is equally limited.
This. End of discussion. He is nowhere near a PL level of a manger. His level (at best) Championship.

The issue for Ole is that he never should have got the job in the first place (at least in my opinion) and so to me it is ridiculous that we're supposed to believe that Ed Woodward and the people running the club, who have barely made a right move in 8 years, have found an untapped genius manager in Solskjaer (whose track record wouldn't even warrant a Premier League manager) and to believe in this nebulous long-term project where we give that manager with no track record several years to make us competitive.

That being said since he got the job he's done nothing to warrant losing it or even being under particularly serious pressure, he cleared the toxicity that Mourinho had created and then at the first attempt got us in to the top 4, he basically did and continues to do a decent job. It's why I've not been Ole Out but at the same time I don't think he's the best choice as the United manager in the long run. With United though it's nailed on he will get a new contract in the summer and will likely continue to do fine and keep us either in or close to top 4 but there is no chance that we are winning or going close to winning the major trophies with the structure we have in place and the manager currently in charge.

My patience is wearing thinner. I’ve always wanted him to stay, but next season we need to really step it up or he needs to go.

In my personal opinion, United have never played what I’d call progressive or ‘patterned’ football. It’s all off the cuff, mixed with talented players, heart and desire. I grew up in the United vs Arsenal era - and it always seemed to be accepted at the time that they played the beat football, but we were just ‘winners’. Ole came from that school, and I think he’s wanting to stick to ‘United traditions’ - but we need to go up a level. The top of the PL is the very pinnacle of world football. We cannot win titles without a proper midfield unit and the ability to pass the ball around at pace.

Just let him go in the summer. Awful boring manager. We are going nowhere with him, top 4 fight every year is the best we can hope for and semi finals.

And how exactly is this going to happen? The team doesn't have any attacking plan, everytime we have the ball we look completely lost.
If he didn't instill that in the 2 years he's been here, what makes you think it will happen now?

Aye, I watch Cavani tonight, Martial, Lukaku in year 2, Pogba, Di Maria, Sanchez, Mata and there’s no getting around it, there’s something so fundamentally wrong with our club. It’s almost impossible for so many top players to replicate their top form here.
Throwing another shit load of money at it won’t be enough, I’m convinced of that.

Well technically the team are, not him, and again, I'm confused. Should he not be trying to make sure we finish in the top 4? I thought that was something we all wanted? We aren't going to win the league so surely that's our aim now?

I'm pretty sure you're talking about a guy who didn't want to sign for Tottenham and leave United because he wanted to win. Everything you've said is easily countered by Solskjaer's actions previously. Kinda sounds like you made most of it up to support a narrative.

Not sure if Ole's to blame for tonight. Multiple players had shockingly bad performances. Our squad is lacking depth in midfield with the injuries and Greenwood & Martial have been out of form for far too long.

Remember when Fergie would throw on young players like Federico Macheda when we needed to win?
Right after their debut or when they had been in the squad for a while?

The damage Ole has done to the players coaching them. Everyday he coaches them is a loss in their career and no manager can come now and fix the stupidity that Ole implanted into the players heads with short time. We better kick him out of the club in the summer and plan our next manager carefully.

Next 3 months are crucial. If he fails to land top 4 then he should be gone. I'd actually like if, hypothetically, Ole manages to stay until the end of next season and then we bring in Pochettino (assuming PSG sack him or he wins UCL and gets bored there).

I really like Ole and am not frustrated with United team as when LvG and Mourinho were managers but this season should be improvement on the last one, not a worse season (or in better case - a repetition of last season).

He hasn't done very well. we may be second but our style of play is atrocious, its just nothing football, no passion, no attacking intent, no cohesion, no penetration, its just rubbish, and its not like this is a one off, we have had so many lacklustre displays, he needs to go, we aren't progressing at all under his management, he has nothing to offer.

Stability with the right coach. But you are right. It’s rotten from the top. But the buttom can’t still bare fruit if we plant the right seeds.

He is a danger on the club. From buying players for 10k pounds in Norway, into buying players for tens of millions of pounds. He is wasting the club's money on players not even playing. Where are his fecking summer signings?

Never said that either, genuine question as to whom we should replace Solskajer with if he goes in the summer, you're making a lot of assumptions right now, it would suggest you're not thinking clearly and you're reacting emotionally to today's result. Also known as a classic case of "knee-jerking".

I mean Nagelsmann seems to be fairly popular on here. Personally I don't rate him, too wedded to one system, lacks the ability to react to a situation that's getting out of control but that's just my opinion. I also think that Nagelsmann is just the next Marco Silva, Brendon Rodgers, Pochettino, etc. They're all good managers but ultimately what wins you trophies is top players, and that we do not have outside of Bruno, Rashford and Pogba.

I love the man, and I'm pretty sure I've vocalised (typed out) my support for him in this thread during the season, but I just don't think he has the managerial bottle when we're doing well.

We struggle to win a semi final. We find ourselves in a title race come 1st of January, being top of the table - and then it's as if we panic. The winning mentality certainly isn't there.

Teams who are hoping to strike a title challenge should get better as the season goes on - City is proof of that. We seem to be regressing and are playing as if there's 11 strangers out there playing for the first time.

I'm not calling for the sack, but for his sake, he certainly needs to end the season strongly. It will reflect terribly on him if he managed to take us from top of the table come January, to dropping out of the top 4 with a further trophyless season.

Fair enough but then how come you rate Ole? He is exactly the type you just described...

I’m talking about myself. When I do a bad job of something I want to be better.
Ole’s past actions? What are they? The jury on Ole the manager is well and truly out, that’s unarguable.
Sounds to me like the person who’s sticking to a narrative is you to be honest. I’ve said what I think, I wholeheartedly disagree with your post. I think it’s lacking any objectivity.

Our mental collapse since going top of the league has been nothing short of shambolic. Since the Fulham we have played 8 games won only 2, lost 1 and drew 5 fecking games. 11 points out of possible fecking 24.

We completely shit the bed as if we didn't believe ourselves. Our mental resolve is so weak and you can't say the manager is blameless, because Ole has handled us going to the top really, really poorly.

I don’t know how. Neither do you.
He’s done it before, and I believe he can do it again. That’s why I think (or hope, at least) it will happen now.

He might fail, and if he does, he’ll deservedly suffer the consequences by getting the sack. He might get it done, and if he does, he’ll deservedly reap the rewards by keeping his job.

Seemingly unable to ever switch from a 4-2-3-1. Seemingly unable to ever proactively make early substitutions to impact a game. Seemingly stubbornly loyal to underperforming players for too long. Seemingly unable to react to the game happening in front of him. Seemingly on target to deliver his board’s remit of “top 4 again please Ole.”

Since going top after Burnley away 10 games ago, the mentality and messaging from our manager has been small, weak confusing and feeble. It appears the players have absorbed the same messaging.

He has done a good job in stabling the ship this past two years after a Mourinho hurricane but there needs to be a graceful departure at the end of the season and we would have Nagelsman ready in the wings to revolutionise this club.
