Not true we are second because we deserve to be second
And it became not terrible the moment Ferguson retired, not sure if you’re up to date with our more recent league finishes
In fact it was not terrible when Ferguson was the manager
We have 1.96 ppg. Let's assume that as 2 which will land us on 76 points. 76 points wouldn't have got us second in last 4-5 years. So yes, the competition has been poor bar City.

This is no way ignoring the improvement which we have made from last year point wise. A 10 point jump is absolutely brilliant.

James summed up perfectly in that 5 second period where he won the ball off a sloppy touch, charged forward only to choose the wrong time to pass and do it inaccurately also.

his work rate is appreciated but you need more than that especially against deep lying defences.

if he wasn’t so weak I’d try him at right back, think his skill set suits that a lot more offensively at least
Right back?

Daniel's ball to Bruno when we had a 4 v 2 late in the game was really disappointing. That play had a goal written all over it but the ball broke Bruno's stride and we ended up with nothing, when a second goal would have put the game away with no fear of a late equalizer scratching two points off the result.

I don't expect James to become a forward who can ever work out of tight spaces, but I do expect him to hit that kind of pass.

It’s the same playing field for every single team
We don’t have it easier this year, if it’s been a harder year for all teams it’s been hard for us as well
It’s not surprising that the team with the biggest most settled squad is running away with it.
I hate the comp has been poor and we’re lucky argument

Yes, his work rate, speed and stamina are perfect for a wingback/fullback role.

He's just a bit too weak to be a good defender, what's the difference between him and say Max Aarons? he reminds me of Rafael in a few ways with his aggression, if only he could tackle.

He's definitely not a great winger that's for sure.

He can't tackle. He can't cross. All he can do is run, I'm not sure that makes him much of a RB or WB.

Not sure why so many people are slating him when he's outperforming the bigger names.

He's doing his best, yes it might not be good enough but he's decent as a backup. It's not his fault that the first choice players in his position are on such bad form than James is outperforming them.

Its the attackers job to be on the end of the crosses, not the other way around. They are the ones without the ball FFS. James put in at least 3 dangerous crosses but for some reason our attackers rather to stand at the edge of the box, in a position that James can't pass to from where he is, instead of bursting their balls to get into the box. Yet you all blame James for not pulling off a literally impossible pull back. Hernandez would have loved him yesterday and likely scored a hat trick from all the crosses we had with no one on the end if them.

The worst is that this is exactly how you consistently beat low block teams.

Pointless player. I am astonished at the people calling this a good performance. What is the barometer for good performance these days? is it running into opposition or every second touch being a tackle? or lack of ability to dribble past the left back? The reason of our failure as a club is fans being fine with a player as a winger, who can't dribble past their LB. Remember the times where the likes of Nani and Valencia had their LB on a roast all day, and their LB had to he substituted or doubled up just to stop him. I was watching the match and i felt Bowen or whatever his name was, felt more threatening than James.

Secondly when did crossing and picking players out, change from just putting into dangerous areas every time, without even looking at the position of players in the box. Normally any half decent player have a look into the box before crossing and try to pick the player out. If he is surrounded, and does not have enough time to seek out any players in the box, then the normal course of action is to cross blindly into dangerous areas.

Do you think the likes of City score goals because they just keep putting it into dangerous areas, without even seeing where the players are why do they score the most goals from cut backs. I have seen James on counter being the furthest player forward and after getting half a yard, he puts in crosses without even considering, he was the furthest forward and there was no way anybody could have caught up with him. The logical pass is to seek out players, who are coming on to the ball and have a first time shot. This shows somebody who has very low IQ and lack of game awareness, similar to the 4 vs 2 situation against Westham, where he could not even pass into Bruno 15 yards out. he passed it behind so he had to check and the move broke down.

Its critical that we sign somebody as a RW for next season. It was shocking how one sided our team was during the first half and literally nothing happened from the right side, every good team tries to overload one side and then quickly switch it to other side, and give their Winger one on one with LB or RB depending on the side they prefer, whereas there is no point of us doing that because our RW can't beat a man so he will just pass it back to AWB and repeat.

I think there's a balance to be had here - absolutely agree that in particular Bruno was shocking at making runs into the areas James and Greenwood were crossing into, it was ridiculously poor decision making from him in fact considering he could often see that there was nobody else in the box and he was still hanging back. On the other hand there was at least one occasion where Bruno was in acres of space at the edge of the box and James just didn't even look up and instead fizzed the ball across with absolutely nobody waiting. I think improvement is needed from both sides of that debate really.

But on the whole I thought James did OK, tried to get in scoring positions and I like his new little shield the ball pirouette thing he does, seems to work well with his centre of gravity even if he doesn't always know where he's going with it!

Can’t believe people are losing their shit every game over a 15 million quid punt from Swansea. People always moan about why we don’t sign cheap players from lesser teams and see how they turn out, well this is what happens, they get berated constantly by spoilt fans.

James could be an important squad player for us, he wasn’t brought in to bang in 50 goals a season, he could be very useful for us and if it doesn’t work out he’ll easily retain his value. He’s literally 1.5 and bit seasons into his United career. He constantly works for the team, some people who have quite clearly never played the game don’t understand how having a player like James can help win you big games (Park comes to mind). I find it quite funny that people rate Adama Traore but don’t rate James, maybe Adama has good YouTube Compilations.

Works his bollix off but has no end product.
He put in a lovely cross within the first 10 minutes of the game right between the keeper and the defensive line and it went begging because no one even mad a run to get on the end of it in the box. I shudder to think what prime Valencia would have looked like in this team.

A prime Valencia was twice the player that James will ever be in my opinion, he could at least stand a man up and then power past him to create space for a cross or shot.

I get he works hard but I personally feel he lacks that much ability it's like playing with a man light at times.

He's a good squad player to have. He's a utility player that runs and works his arse off and there's always a need for these kinds of players in the team. If he kicks on and develops then great, but if not I don't see any sense in selling him.

Even Valencia in his prime was only as productive as a Rooney or Hernandez making runs into the box to get on the end of his crosses. Any right footed player playing on the right needs that. James isn't remotely close to that level but you don't expect him to cut inside and score with his weaker foot.

He's in the Richardson Chadwick Eagles bracket of Man Utd wingers, absolutely dreadful rabbit in the headlights player not reflective of the talents in the Championship that are worth taking a "cheap punt" on

We are the only big club that tolerates 'hard workers' as good enough for a front three position. Park was on another level, much better footballer than those who he's usually compared to.

There seems to be this obsession with settling for these types as squad players. Low on creativity grafters that rarely step up and lift the team. Just 'do a job' where the games they play suffer for it, boring and lacking punch. A squad player for a front three should be able to step in against a team that has no plans to attack.

Go on then, name a winger worth taking a punt on in the championship.

As if you’ve just compared him to Chadwick, Eagles and Richardson

This is pure rubbish, an over the top reaction to a player you just simply don’t like, he’s literally scored more goals than all 3 of them combined in under 2 seasons.

It’s not James’s fault Rangers won the league at a canter mate.

Arsenal are a big club. Spurs are too. Liverpool have Origi FFS. Chelsea's main source of creativity is Mason Mount...City have Gabriel Jesus up front. I don't think I need to go on.

Origi is on his last legs at Liverpool as he's probably not seen as good enough but still he had has some very big moments at Anfield. Mount and Jesus are simply much better players than Daniel James, I shudder to think which names you would have thrown in if you had actually gone on.

Mount is fine as a no.8 bit he's really not good as a no.10 or on the wings, he's bang average. And Jesus is not a good player, a skilful dribbler and a grafter and that's it.

Benramha is much better than him and is a bench player for West Ham. We need better. The bar is so low for him, that a nothing performance is described as 'good' or 'ok'.

Standards. It's not like £15m is a free transfer. It's still a lot of money and money that hinders United from buying another player. The only way his performances are OK is if he's an academy product that can fill in and that didn't cost us anything.

Don’t dislike the kid he gives 100% every time he steps into the pitch but unfortunately he’s not cut out for this level. We should be looking to offload him in the summer, hopefully Leeds are still interested and we can recoup what we payed for him.

Looking over my shoulder.
I think people are putting too much emphasis on that mishit pass for the counter. It was a terrible pass, but it happens quite frequently. Also, it's not like he received a pin perfect pass and then fecked up. At least it was he who actually won the ball and initiated the counter with good pressing. So yeah, one good move ruined by one bad move. Other than that, he kept the ball better than he usually does, and he had some decent crosses, but as is the norm with our attackers, there are far too few players inside their box.

At this level a winger who crosses to no one is not what we need, keep the ball and recycle till the opportunity arrives. He isnt good enough for the level we want.

Most of his crosses are either too short, too strong, or straight to the keeper. They also usually come after getting himself into an area where he has no choice other than to get rid of the ball. It's definitely not something he deserves praise for.

... playing for a team who score for fun. And I don't know which 100 games you're talking about here, are you only looking at his good seasons? Usually he scores about 1 in 3 but even that is quite inconsistent.

He’d be blown away on any aerial ball put into the back post .

I thought he might be coming into some form over the last few games but he was poor on the ball against West Ham. Works his socks off defensively and unlike some of our attackers keeps trying attacking runs for the whole 90. And he should rightly be credited for that. But some of the counter-attacking opportunities he wastes with poor passes and bad decisions are unforgivable in a player whose whole purpose is to be a counter-attacking outlet.

Goals and assists  Btw only City have scored more thanUnited have this season. Shaw and Fernandes are in the top 5 for chances created. Whats James excuse for his poor output? Since were using how many goals a team scores to define a players output

Yeah, he was poor on the ball on Sunday, less effective in possession. I find it strange that some people have used this as a reason to revert back to their default position of him being shit. He has been MUCH more effective in possession in his previous 4 appearances. He should get credit for that improvement the same way as anyone else would.

I don't rate James but his production has been better than Greenwood this season in about half the amount of minutes. Definitely a case for James to play more than Greenwood on the RW in our current system as it suits his abilities better. It would be nice to see us try something more than 4231 every game though..

But he's played well over 100 league games for City so I just don't know which orifice you've plucked these figures from is the point. Hopefully it's your brainhole but I remain sceptical.

That he didn't actually play that much?

He's played around 1100 mins, that's not even 13 games and he has 5 goals and 1 assists.

He might not be that good, but he's actually rather productive if we're comparing him with the rest of the attackers bar Rashford and Bruno
