We still don't know how Covid will affect the prices. If the mad prices before Covid are to be continued, 150m for a future Ballon D'Or winner looks fine compared to what was spent on Pogba, Dembele, Coutinho, Griezmann and even Neymar.

Responding to various posts above, the way I would ask caftards to think about Haaland is not that his arrival would guarantee us major trophies, but that his arrival would — let me acknowledge this is speculation as you never really can be sure of anything happening in the future — at the very least substantially closes the gap between us and City. And I would add sends us through into the knockout rounds of the CL. Beyond that, the rest of the squad need to do their part to lift major trophies.

Given that we probably won't be offloading anyone for decent money in the current financial climate, €150 will probably be our entire transfer budget. We could barely put the money together for Sancho so I have doubts about whether this could even happen.

I’d imagine that’s over and beyond our budget for this summer, think it’s unlikely we can afford him. Assuming Dortmund would be willing to sell this summer for a larger fee is Haaland going to be desperate to move if options are limited.
Once clause kicks in next summer he has much wider choice of where to go, another year at Dortmund might be more appealing than coming to us or Chelsea this summer.

I can envisage a scenario where him and his agent think if a clubs prepared to pay 120 million this year then they will pay it next year - 60m to dortmund, 40m to haaland and 20m to his agent
haaland effectivley gets an extra £770k a week to stay in Dortmund for a year and his agent gets £385k a week to do the rounds of all the interested clubs and negotiate some crazy wages

Yeah I agree. I also think realistically Ole would have identified 2-3 positions in the squad he'd like strengthened at minimum, so even if we could just about afford it I doubt we would anyway.
Football doesn’t work like this in reality. People often speak as if there is no financial benefit in getting a player for free or less money, as there is some sort of fixed amount that MUST be spent on each player and it either goes to the club or the agent.
If this were the case, signing Haaland this summer or next summer makes no difference to any club (except Dortmund). There’s a reason why he’ll likely have more suitors next summer, and that’s because the club will have to spend less money.

Is Haaland worth 75 million a season? no. BVB are stupid to think any club would pay 150m when they can get him for 75m the next season. The best they can get is a 120m and in this difficult times I dont think there are many clubs would have that kind of money. If we sell Martial and Pogba, maybe we can pay 120m.
