Public opinion is all with UEFA on this. They can probably do a LOT of damage to the clubs in question and have the fans of the club's backing.

There are so many problems with this league:

No fear of relegation
5 teams qualify. Do they have to re-qualify the next year, even if they win the contest? What if they outpeform most teams? It renders the principle of fair competition null and void
No ethical governing body or impartial governing body. Perez is the chairman. What happens if Real Madrid has a complaint?
Will they get referees? They're all UEFA and FIFA licensed referees. Will the Super League simply hire them and have them ref 10-15 games a season each while getting excluded from reffing in domestic leagues?

I love this club so much. And I will absolutely support UEFA, and the Premier League if they choose to go nuclear on the club, strip us from all points and send us to the championship. There is legitimately no course of action that is too strong to stop this from happening.
This relegation point keeps getting brought up but it doesnt happen in todays CL? We went out in the group stages last year and we are sailing back into it next season.

Still convinced this is a ploy by those teams to get UEFA to the negotiating table.

When the dust settles we'll have some requirement at some point. Like I said previously, if for some reason Southampton go on to become one of the most successful and most viewed PL teams over the next few years, you think they won't be extended an invitation?
They won't go on to become the most successful and viewed PL team because this plan is purposefully designed to ensure these 12 clubs get the wealth and opportunities and nobody else does.

Give peas a chance.
If these clubs are getting massive automatic payments, in excess of what they'd get for winning the CL, then where is the incentive for actually... you know... competing? It's just a glorified exhibition where they turn up and collect their cash.

The more I think about it, the more I feel the people actually in favour of this are probably more those blinkered fans who don't give a sh*t about anything but what's new and shiny - the kind of people who fetishise transfers, and forget what made football so brilliant in the first place.

What you are saying would still be replicated in any super league. Except without the threat of relegation which would be new levels of boring.

When you have a gulf in resources between the best and the rest, you don’t pour petrol on it and systematically make it much bigger. When competition is the lifeblood of the sport you end up with a better product by spreading investment out, not funnelling it entirely into a handful of uber-rich clubs.
The difference is that while very few know that Burnley exist Inter and Milan has huge fan bases. Inter has 55m and Milan has 95m. A game between Manchester United and Milan would attract thousands of fans world wide something both clubs would benefit from. They won't be piggy banking on our popularity to attract the ££££ needed for their club to thrive/survive.

I understand and in many ways I share your concerns/anger. However I am also trying to see the other POV as well. When I started following United, the EPL was nowhere near as being the best league in the world. However it was certainly entertaining. Smaller sides would throw caution by the wind and play attractive football to keep football entertaining. By doing so they kept their side of the bargain. Can you say the same now? All these teams care about is that extra point needed to remain in the EPL or making it in the Europa league so that they can keep on piggy banking on the money the big guns generate. So if these clubs can be allowed to be greedy then what's so tragic in us doing the same?

How fecked is it that Leipzig are the other club that is going to join  Such a blatant money grab. Disgusting.
They’re like 5 years old. What are Celtic thinking of this for instance. Pure joke. Absolutely no meritocracy.

All this talk about trophy cabinets and history as if performing now doesn't matter as much.

Would they have been OK with a Super League in 1995 including Blackburn? Or in 1980 with Forest after their back-to-back European Cups?

Unless the clubs name is Manchester United, who have barely qualified for the competition over the last 8 years, even with all the advantages of having a billionaire owner?

If the Super Leagues happens the likes of Arsenal, Spurs and United won’t get any better. The money will flow in and the only people who will benefit are the owners, players and agents. No doubt fans will be expected to pay a premium to go to games and there will be yet another separate payment service to watch games on TV.
Not sure who you're arguing with here. I think the same as you. I was responding to someone who didn't see the problem with it.

Trouble is, if we are kicked out of other competitions then it will be all we have. It will be 12 Harlem Globetrotters playing each other.
It's 20 teams. People have seemingly missed that part but it's essentially a normal league with playoffs.

Btw people saying that the PL should throw away the big six are surely looking at the smaller picture. The other 14 clubs will be financially destroyed if the big six are out of the league. The TV revenue will be reduced by 70-80% imo.
The big six will be out of the league because competing for four spots for UCL football is no longer needed. They can finish 13th and it makes no difference.

Ferguson, in his first intervention in a live issue since retirement, have commented this time around too:

“Talk of a Super League is a move away from 70 years of European club football. Both as a player for a provincial team Dunfermline in the 60s and as a manager at Aberdeen winning the European Cup Winners’ Cup, for a small provincial club in Scotland it was like climbing Mount Everest,” he told Reuters.

“Everton are spending £500 million to build a new stadium with the ambition to play in Champions League. Fans all over love the competition as it is,” he said.

“In my time at United, we played in four Champions League finals and they were always the most special of nights.

“I’m not sure Manchester United are involved in this, as I am not part of the decision making process,” he added.

(Reuters calling the club 'Soccer-United' in their headline though. :houllier:)

The NFL merged with the AFL and it didn't ruin American football. The NBA merged with the ABA and it didn't ruin basketball. The National League and American League started playing interleague games and it didn't ruin baseball.

It seems absurd that some of the best players in the world might go their entire careers without facing each other. I get why traveling fans would be dismayed because it's ruining a culture built up for a century... but just in terms of the football it seems silly that the best aren't always playing the best.
Spoken like true glazer supporter.

Your examples dont work in this case because ALOT of clubs are excluded.

Those young Mbappes/Brunos don't go to these clubs in the first place or go with specific contract clauses. In football, the power is with the top players and big clubs. The latter are exercising it and they will distribute part of the pie to the top players to keep them happy.
Yeah, but the talents? You can't possibly imagine ALL the top talents in the world to play only in the 20 clubs of the world.
That's just ridiculous.

Mbappe came from Monaco.
Haaland came from Molde and RB Salzburg.
Bruno came from Sporting.

If the top 20 can't buy from Monaco or Molde or Salzburg.....in 5 years when they're done trading Neymar between themselves, they're fecked.

They will sign a ton of free agents on stupid money though.
They could. It's their league, their rules.

Just out of curiosity, how many free agents are there today that the top clubs would buy?
Most of the top players are contract bound.

Also, most players, young ones especially, they want to play football. Not sit on a 3 mile long bench at PSG waiting their turn to play.

This entire thing is disgusting. Anyone who agrees with this super league is a disgrace as well.

It’s literally all money based. Like that’s it. Nothing to do with quality of football. You can say football is money based these days but this is like...another level of greed.

So you have no poblem selling your teams to billionairs from the USA, Russia, or Arabia and butchering the game day shedules to please audiences in China. But a real best vs best profesional leauge is doomsday now? I dont get it.

If this Superleague had been around in the 1980s, not even sure MUFC would have been part of it.

It is thanks to the Premier League creation and expansion that the club reached its present status. That was enhanced by the Champions League victories of the 1990s and 2000s.

These founding members are only there based on history, but they have no plan on how new clubs would develop and write their own history thanks to the Superleague.

Arsenal :houllier: Surely they should try winning existing competitions before creating new ones.

Well that will put an end to great projects like Leicester.

Arsenal rewarded for being a sh*t show for years, and will no doubt be financial rewarded too, to bring them back to the top. Whereas Leicester will become a bog standard english team.

No player is going to want to join a club 'on the up', because they won't be in the SL.

There will a much bigger divide in salaries in the prem too.

Unlike other, I enjoy playing random teams in the UCL, it's great for fans who go to games too. There will be no Leipzig or Atalanta ties now. Tough ties without the big name.

It makes me sick tbh. United have worked their arses off all season to get back in the Champions League and it’s all pointless now. Watching us leapfrog you guys, the Champions of England, in the space of just one season has been one of the things that has made the season exciting for us.

The season has been a complete waste of time. All the ups and downs we have had is for nothing. The manager and players for United must be livid right now.

Typically, this is the most promising we have seen for a United side for nearly a decade and it looks like it’s all going to be undone fairly quickly. I definitely can’t see our manager sticking around for this, and I’m certain there will be a fair few players against it (although on the player side of things there are no other alternatives really if all the biggest clubs are playing in this new league).
Of course he will.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
To those people who think it'll be cool to play in big games every week, they won't be big games after a couple of rounds of fixtures.

We'll genuinely be looking forward to FA cup games against Bolton over yet another game against Barca.
Why is this repeatedly being said? We play the same big teams every year twice in the PL and oddly enough it’s never said about that.

Where the grass is greener.
I can't be the only one who likes playing random smaller teams in the CL? Their tiny little grounds, how it's the biggest game in their clubs history playing us or another giant. That's all gone.

I just can't get over how sterile and hollow it'll feel. To go from one season with the CL meaning everything to possibly this next season? Its surreal.

It would actually be entertaining to see the biggest clubs play each other regulary, on the other hand it leaves all the other clubs behind in the dust and makes all the other competitions irrevelant. I hope it doesn't go through.
