Tin hat territory: Chelsea and City only signed up so that they could then get the good publicity for backing out.
I think they both signed up initially fully cognisant of the fact that if the media shitstorm was too bad they would back out first and come out smelling of roses.

I don’t think that’s why they signed up, but I reckon they definitely thought this was always an option

I don't, but it is a good point you raise. An email of a few lines which is personalised is worth so much more than a template.

I shouldn't say this but Parliamentary Committees and Government Departments basically ignore anything which is done to a template as they assume (conveniently) that is it a bot, not a real person.
Done,

I stole the Labour party's online letter template just rejigged the names of the recipients. Slightly less lazy but not by much. :keano:

Maybe the Chelsea fans have shut the whole thing down anyway

:wenger:

I hope this leads to the dominos falling and this brief but horrific idea being put to bed. FSG have backed down to fan pressure before over ticket prices so I'm optimistic.

Wouldn't be surprised if the Glazers/Woodward wont mind City and Chelsea (and whoever else) pulling out because they'll see it as them getting a bigger share of the total money.
I see your point, but surely it is also important a Super League includes the best teams? With Bayern and PSG already missing from the project, losing two of the strongest English teams will be a blow.

I belive the British state will levy legislation that stops the British clubs from competing. At least Boris is being very vocal about that today

This might be one of the very few favorable outcomes from Brexit.

He'll announce the end of it all but dress it up with positive negotiations with UEFA.
My bet is he'll claim its paused.
My personal hope is that he admits that he has bankrupted Real and without the SL they'll have to wind up.

3 of the 4 Champions League semi finalists are no longer in it, how can they frame it as a Super League when the teams not in it are clearly better than the ones who still are? It's now just an even more ludicrous circle jerk between a couple of the best sides and then a load of borderline Europa League/Champions League level teams.

Not in this format by closing the door but with right changes I think this would be more interesting than UCL.
So you don’t want this to go ahead? Isn’t the whole point of it the owners wanting a closed door so these teams never get relegated and get continual money. That’s not changing.

it will be so embarrassing that united will be beside RM as the last 2 teams. Absolutely disgusting

The longer we stay in it, the more idiotic & isolated we will be. Woodward is a buffoon & they’ve seriously miscalculated the backlash. Own up the mistake & get out of our club.

Manchester United and Real Madrid are the big ringleaders in this.

We'll be the last to pull out.

We'll be left with the disgrace.
Yeah, our club is stained as long as these greedy bastards are owners. I do feel ashamed, even if I realise it's not directly my fault or anything.

I won't say this is over till ourselves, Real, Barca, Juventus or Liverpool rule themselves out. Any of those back in the Champions League and this competition will lack any credibility and the CL line-up looks better and better

Chelsea, City, PSG, Bayern and Dortmund, and now Atletico

Literally the 5 best teams in Europe right now based on the CL performances and the best side in La Liga.

The SL is finished.

Nah. I posted this before but imagine the good publicity they (and these two in particular) would have got if they had said no from the beginning. I applaud them for doing the right thing now but let's not forget they (or rather their executives) were part of this. Still, between the scenes outside Stamford Bridge right now, Perez' interview yesterday and Perez' much anticipated interview later today, I feel this was all worth it. Great entertainment.

Simply can't see how it goes ahead when teams are ALREADY pulling out. The whole thing is an absolute shambles and will hopefully come crashing down because of this.

Well, this is going to die as quickly as it started haha

Woodward sacked by the end of the season/taking the brunt for this terrible decision?

You'd think so, but I could see them carrying on with it somehow.

It'll probably end up being United, Madrid, Juve and Barca going round the world multiple times per year charging for friendlies at the expense of the league and cup competitions, and calling it the "Super Team World Tour" or something.

By the way, the football agents were in support of the Super League. Let's see what they come out with as this (hopefully) falls apart:
The current system isn’t sustainable, change is inevitable, but this isn’t it.

How much weirder can all of this get? This needs a thorough post-mortem analysis, because there have to be shady deals at play in this rushed announcement followed by an almost immediate collapse.

The big takeaway from all of this is this feeling of pride that all football fans want the same thing: Eligibility through success on the pitch, not a god given right to compete regardless of domestic performance.

Dominos are falling, 4 are now gone.

I wonder how long our fecking parasites will wait.
