Could Ed have pushed for the Super League (seeing it as a way of making £££'s) now it's all blown up in everyone's face, he sees the potential hit to sponsorship due to reputation loss, so has no option but to walk?
Sounds about right.

the first time in years we are in a stable position on the field and now this whole shit off it. glad woodward is gone but i am not too positiv that there will come someone better or more football oriented after him as long as the glazers are in charge

You do wonder if this was done to make Utd a sellable club? Given our stature and cost prior to this, not even state-backed investors would have thought it all that viable, especially with the investment in the squad/stadium required.

Everyone giving the Glazers shit, but if they were really leeching cash from the club, you'd think that at least one of them would have sorted their fecking hair out.
They are all total slap heads. Rooneys hair is awful and god only knows how much he’s spent on it at this stage. He’s like the anti transplant advertisement. So yeah they were probably better off leaving it. They are a family of ugly men though. No doubt about it

You are a purely financially motivated businessman, your asset has reached peak value or pretty close. You try a drastic measure to increase that significantly and it gets widely condemned to the point that the country it operates in turns against you and "AdisaOut" begins trending on social media. Do you really not even consider that it might be a good time to sell at billions profit when it is unlikely to gain much more value?
We are still a way before they sell. They aren't selling the club in this depressed market. I think we are at least a year out from a sale if it happens.
Will the failure of the ESL hasten their plans, it probably will but not any time soon.

They are the owners...unless someone stumps up the cash, then they're staying. He was a pawn of the owners for years and that position will still report to the owners. The person may have changed, but nobody knows how it'll impact the club going forward, especially if they appoint a newb like Woodward was when he started.
This is massive, massive misstake. Cash or no cash. I wouldn't be suprised that they are thinking of that right now. The american owners in Liverpool and Arsenal will be thinking to. I know they have been in pressure and never gave in but this is something different. Specially when government were talking about being involved in this matter.

I've been right about Woodward, Angeli and we will see about Perez if this failed. This means more to football then these 2-3 men.

Madness. Why is he leaving? Surely the Super League is something the Glazers were pushing for, rather than Woodward?

They should offer him the job. His tune would change back to the previous 16 years so quickly that he'd give himself whiplash.
Murtough/Fletch got ripped to shreds. Giving it to Nev would cause uproar here.

Maybe I’m a pessimist but I can’t help thinking, better the devil you know
Kind of how I feel about this. It seems that we've finally landed on a structure that could work well for us and now this could destabilise the club. Time will tell

A former employee of JP Morgan, may have sold the idea to Glazes and if not, promised to execute on their behalf. The Glazes may only have limited time left as their attempts to secure extra income has been derailed.

They no longer have a mouthpiece or a representative. We as fans now have a duty to a)not let this hinder our progress on the team and coaching staff and b) start putting the fans, club, team, entire staff, stadia first. End the Glazer regime.

Wow, crazy, crazy day. I feel anything can happen right now. Glazers could sell, the club could spiral into full chaos. The club won't be the same again, for better or for worse.

@devilish To reaffirm that this was always the plan:

They're only moving this forward due to the worry over potential leaks of this news.
I think that they brought it forward as they want a fall guy.

This is big. Woodward was the Glazer's favourite guy. They stuck to him through thick and thin. Maybe the Glazers are selling out.

Woodward being here until the end of 2021 gives him enough time to give Matic a 5 year contract on £400k a week.

He's the CEO. Business strategising is down to him.

The Glazers obviously sign off any major decisions. But they're not responsible for the dirty work.

Do we believe that Woodward was behind this or is it the Glazers who are determined to go through with the ESL at any cost?

Pretty sure even if it was the ESL they won't say it. Not everything can be said to the media, they need to cover things up regardless. I'm not saying that it must be due to ESL debacle but if it was due to it, they wouldn't have said.

Yes, hes gone! And good bloody riddance! It looks the super league has done us a big favour, if only the glazers take the hint too! But why were United so slow to realise that public opinion had turned massively against the idea? Chelsea, City and Liverpool were quick to see that if they announced their intention to quit as soon as the idea started to collapse they might save something of their reputations; United though dithered and waited, I still dont think we have actually said we're out, and, in a hissy fit because his new toy was being taken away Woodward resigns. Manchester United look really, really bad and our reputation is in tatters. But if the glazers were to go, we might just salvage something.
