Julien Laurens (@LaurensJulien) Tweeted: It’s now confirmed by different sources: Karim Benzema WILL be in France’s squad for the Euros this summer. More than five years after his last cap, Deschamps will call him back. Wow!!!!!

Up front, definitely. Giroud's getting worse and Martial has been shit/injured this season. Not much else other than Griezmann who's more of a second striker anyway.
Of course, he's their best striker by a mile.
Fair. I thought they played 4-3-3 with Griezmann in the middle but I just remembered they’ve been playing 4-2-3-1 with Giroud.

Not sure what to think of it. We've been playing one (successful) way for so many years and he's going to switch it up with barely a month before the first game in the hardest group of the competition. I fear it's going to be a repeat of the first game of the World Cup where he buckled under pressure to play Mbappe-Griezmann and Dembele and it was rubbish. Giroud will still be a super-sub. I can't see them play together with Griezman and Mbappe and these two don't usually get subbed off.

He'll give them what giroud gives then, but at a world class level.

It could be true but both L'Equipe and Le Parisien are speculating. Basically they say that it's probably because the relationshio between Benzema and Deschamps improved and Benzema is playing his best football.

Tbf as highly as I rate Benzema, Giroud is probably just as good if not better for the NT

Can’t underestimate what Giroud brings, but I feel Benzema is a much better and complete player than he was when he was basically asked to be a one-man army for a subpar France.

Definitely. If we judge the past and in particular around 2015, Giroud was the better fit and the better performer but Benzema is a different player now, on paper he should be a perfect fit.

Deschamps have his reasons and I don't see what have changed. Not inviting Benzema was never about his abilities as a footballer.

The rumour was that Deschamps expected an apology from Benzema, in private. If they have talked in the last months, it's perfectly possible that the problem is fixed.

Strange timing to do it now rather than during the qualification campaign

Shame for Martial but they just have too much talent after the season he's had.

We're winning this, Benzema,Mbappe,Griezmann on paper is easily the best NT attack since early/mid 2000s Brazil

I just realized that the kart and the F1 will have to live together for more than a month.

Its not about performances. Deschamps just said he was supposed to be called up but his fitness level doesnt allow it
If fit he would probably have been in that 26 players list instead of Thuram. If it was only 23, i don't think he would have.

Giroud about to two-foot him the day before France-Germany

I honestly can’t wait to see Benzema and Mbappé linking up together. Didn’t think I’d get to see it with Les Bleus.

I don't understand the gushing over Benzema. He's a quality striker, but never left any form of impression that warants turning on the TV for a Real game. He was the guy standing next to Ronaldo while he won them stuff to me.

I'm sure that's slightly underrating him, but eh.

He scored plenty of goals in important games not taking any penalties or free kicks.

And on the top of that he is one of the best playmakers in modern football.

He's criminally underrated.

I don't know if it's accurate but I have in mind that Benzema has rarely been poor in big games for Real Madrid. I remember many games where Real weren't favorites or when he wasn't in good form but somehow raised his game. Benzema is definitely underrated.

Yeah I think that is criminally under rating him to be fair. Not many strikers could have player in that Real team with Ronnie at his peak and not been a hindrance. As a link man and chipping in with goals he was the perfect player, hence never being replaced for all those years when there were strikers around that were much flashier and scoring more goals.

I once made a thread on here calling Totti overrated. Underrating iconic players is kind of my thing I guess.

No team in particular.
Pogba or Kante injured and France are fecked.

Tolisso, Rabiot and Sissoko as replacements
Tolisso and Rabiot are fine, they delivered when they played for France.
No NT have elite/WC subs in every position.

Sure they aren't Kante and Pogba level, but they are still good subs.

No different than Germany missing Gnabry,Kroos and Müller.
