Didn't PSG pull this with Verratti too? Wanted to leave but then inexplicable apologised for saying that only a day or so later........... Weird.
Verratti had just signed a multi-year extension the previous year. They told him either shut up and play for us, or not play at all for the next few years(Verratti's ex-agent was very bad at his job)

Mbappé is a free agent in a year's time

Yeah, that's what I most often say to them - in a confident manner.
However in the back of my mind I'm bricking it at the though of him in a Liverpool jersey :nervous:

Hopefully we make a real effort to get him if he leaves on a free.
I am confident we will make serious moves for him. Then reluctantly pull when it turns out that our serious effort is nowhere near the required financial package.

Mbappe would have to seriously weigh the sporting opportunity over income and other interesting sporting opportunities for it to happen. Which makes it incredibly unlikely.

Seriously how Real and Barcelona always do it? Both clubs have no money now suddenly they are getting decent players on free transfers.
Because in terms of clubs that players actively want to go to, Real and Barcelona are in a league of their own. There’s a certain glamor and prestige that is associated with those two clubs. As fans of other clubs we just have to accept it for what it is, because it’s not ever going to change. Players will always want to go to two those clubs.

Plus let's be honest it's often not just the player moving... its family as well

And if you ask my wife if she would prefer Madrid/ Barca to Manchester/ Liverpool I'm pretty sure it would be Spain all the way

He is getting arrogant and cocky now. Full of himself...

That arrogance means only Real, PSG, Barcelona are his options.

Liverpool aren’t really flavour of the month anymore, Chelsea have taken over that mantle.

He was like that even when he was 17, 18 and playing for Monaco. He asked PSG for full service for his family, private jet, his own chef etc. That's just ridiculous. But clearly there was some desperation in France combined with quality PR team to make him look like this grounded, unique kid who'll become one of the most important voices of his generation.

As long as he backs it up then it's OK. Zlatan made a career out of being arrogant.
Very different things if you've actually seen how Zlatan says those things vs how Mbappe is. Reports saying he was so pissed at Giroud saying they could have passed better that he wanted to go to the post game presser and have a go. Absolutely mental.

Bollocks will it be a sporting opportunity vs income scenario. It's Real Madrid ffs, not Abu Dhabi FC

Hasn't he had (by his admittedly impressive standards) a bit of a mediocre season? Feels like the narrative will be shaped by the CL perfomrance and these Euros. But PSG not winning the league certainly suggests he wasn't at his best.

I think you need a certain attitude to be the best at any sport, but there's a pretty fine line between being driven towards results and being a d*ck.

Mbappe will want ronaldo/messi level wages, nevermind liverpool no uk club will pay those wages. PSG are offering him neymar wages i.e. 700k a week to re-sign. Even at half those wages i.e. 350k a week he'd be the highest earner at a english club.

Personally i hope he stays at PSG for a few more seasons. Make your own history at a club rather than going to a clubs where messi and ronaldo have set incredible records.

I've barely seen him play, but with 41 goals in around 53 appearances he's statistically done superb.

The team around him isn't stupid, they're well aware of how they're going to make as much money as possible from contracts, sponsorships and what not. I'd be surprised if he doesn't sign a fecking massive contract at PSG, and that he'll be looking at fecking off somewhere else afterwards.

PSG is a cage. It is very hard to come outside unless they let you leave. But Mbappe is very mature for his age and I'm sure this guy will find a way out. He wants to be the best in the world and win everything that is there to offer. I think his team got it wrong by thinking PSG would win the CL in 2/3 seasons and they would let him leave but it might take some time for the Qatari's to buy their way out.

For PSG it was arguably his best season.

Maybe you should re read what I wrote. What I am saying is that we offer a sporting opportunity and are competing against clubs that also offer different sporting opportunities and way more money on top.

Ok apologies, not sure where I'd read he wasn't fully on it this year.
I'm not exactly sure about what fully on it means but while it was his best season and that he is improving every year, he is known to have a massive ego and he can try to play super hero football, particularly when Neymar isn't on the field. There has been more scrutiny on that from the press this season.

the difference is Mbappe is still 22. Zlatan was at Ajax at that age and working hard to grow.

At 22, Mbappe needs to be show some patience and stop acting.

Qatar going to open up the oil wells a bit more in order to pay him 5, 6 times more than a regular club ever could. Now that the Sheikh is besties with the UEFA president for staying loyal during the superleague fiasco, they will turn a blind eye to any spending.

I mean the press has gotten tired of Mbappe being represented as this perfect person, even Mbappe himself got tired of it, but they're now going overboard with his criticisms. First of all, when Neymar wasn't there, it was pretty much all on Mbappe to get the win for the team, he basically had to play super hero football because there wasn't much of anything else coming from his teammates. Draxler, Sarabia, Icardi, Paredes, all had poor seasons and did not create much for him at all. It's not as if he's doing sombreros while he had two teammates in the box waiting for a pass, he hardly had any outlets this season. So I think the criticism and his portrayal as this selfish diva is not only unfair, but incorrect.

You are not wrong, I was just adding context to the potential negative talks around Mbappé. The press does exaggerate a bit, the Giroud vs Mbappé is an example of it, Giroud didn't mention Mbappé but the press turned it into a definitive message aimed at Mbappé and they are now going to act as body language experts for the entirety of the tournament.

Yeah, that story is extremely weird, I still have a hard time believing it as even a real thing but for sure, we're the heavy favorites, so you're going to have media trying to destabilize us with these stories and enhancing their impact. It's unnecessary, but I really don't think it will impact us in any way. Deschamps can handle whatever friction there might be and I don't expect Giroud to be as big of an influence now with Benzema healthy and ready to go.

I read a post that I can't find about Neymar renewing as one of his conditions to stay.
Show him that they are the most competitive project, but on the other hand, as happened to Neymar with Messi, does he want to continue to share the limelight or he wants a team for himself.
Being in June his last interview sounded half-hearted for someone who wants to change teams

I don't know if his recent outings in the media are part of a single interview he did or not. If that's not the case though, he should just shut his fecking mouth and play the game, he speaks too much.

He actually hardly speaks to the press even though he's very much in-demand. He's playing the game just fine.

Ok apologies, not sure where I'd read he wasn't fully on it this year.
You were right in some way for the second semester 2020 as he wasn't in a great physical shape for many reasons (main one: injured in May 20)

Since January, he feels very good and the staff of Poch who joined PSG in December played a key role.

Either he signs a new contract with PSG or he goes to Real Madrid.

Don't expect anything else.

Don't see anything wrong with that he's said to be fair.

Based on his last interviews, the very likely outcome would be to see him renewing his contract with the option to leave easily the club in 2022.

The way Mbappe is communicating is as follows:
- I am not planning to do what Rabiot did in the past: leaving the club as a free agent
- I won't renew my contract if I don't see great recruits coming

In any case, don't expect him to sign a contract and be stuck until 2027. I believe he will leave the club in 2022 and enable the club to earn a decent fee as part of the process.

The type of compromise I see

Why not leave now? What does this achieve?

Don't piss off some of the richest people in the world who're well known for being ruthless?
feck them, what can they do? Any retaliation at all kills them as a desired destination for top players. Itll be Levy v Kane on steroids

He is 22, so he if leaves in 2022 this is not the end of the world.

PSG won't let him leave this summer and are ready to take any risks.

I heard before that Ronaldo was his hero and he aspired to play for Utd or Madrid. We should be all over this. Surely even the Glazers can afford a free transfer?
Madrid have made it clear their number one signing next summer is Mbappe. They've been talking about it for 3 seasons now, they've built a new stadium so they can afford him.
