Feel a bit sorry for them. Thought they were the better team and play entertaining football as well.

I am going to throw myself to the sea if this idiot remains there. (Kidding). If I was Fernandes’s if this clown remains there would tell him to feck off. This feckless idiot indirectly tried to suggest he was to blame for the Germany defeat. And started Jota 4 games. 4. Never started Andre Silva or Felix. Never.
Felix was injured for the previous games

We got knocked out by Belgium with 2 less days of rest after having played Germany and France in the past 8 days... and we were clearly better. It's a one-off game, sometimes Thorgan Hazard will score out of nowhere in their only half chance of the game and you lose. That's football.

There was nothing wrong with the tactics today, got unlucky. It happens. And I'm not opposed to Santos leaving btw, if we have other good options then we should change but some of the criticism he gets is ridiculous. With the draw we had it was always a lot more likely we'd be out early than not regardless of who the manager is

What are the rumours in Portugal? Is someone else linked with taking over?
So far no. The guys who really understand football know he is shit, but he is personal friend from the President of the Football Federation. And then there’s the ocasional fan who only watches the National Team who believe we should be grateful for him regarding 2016 and the 2019 Nations League.

Stop defending that idiot. He is a mediocre coach who should never ever been there. I am starting to believe you are paid by him to defend his options. If you defend this clown bugger off and put me on the ignore list.
@Peyroteo Sorry. It was a childish thing to say. Forget it. You know I never liked the guy.

I know they've tried Ronaldo as a central figure but, boy, Portugal's long search for a top striker continues.

Portugal haven't played entertaining football in years. At least not for the last three tournaments.

His friends on the media tried to suggest he didn’t follow his tatical instructions. I live in Portugal, I know how things are done here. He should be ashamed of himself and if I was Bruno would retire from this team while he stays there. He started Jota 4 fecking games. Unbelievable.
He probably did the right thing by ignoring him tbf. Any chance he's gone by the World Cup? What's the feeling like there?

How many times has Portugal seen out a professional 1-0 victory while looking second best? I don’t feel sorry for them one bit. They were better today, as you expect of two relatively equally matched teams when one side goes down by a goal. They were also fortunate that Belgium’s best players went down with injury.

I wouldn’t draw too many conclusions from this either. Portugal had a tough group and a tough draw and fell a little short. I don’t think they were bad overall. Belgium meanwhile finally did what they had to do. Saw out a tough match professionally. I think the next game could be very different and if KdB and Hazard are ok to go I could see them utterly pants Italy if they are on that day. Just because they didn’t attack much this game, the circumstances could be totally different in the next.

Depends on what kind of football you like. Who would you say play entertaining football?

Yes it will be tough without Kevin and Hazard. I thought they looked poor with them, imagine without them.

I don’t know man. He is close friend with the President of the Federation and the majority of the players seem to like him, unless there’s public pressure they will keep the excuse we are on the middle of a qualification to Qatar, etc. Remembers a bit the Southgate situation tbh.

Portugal 2000-2004-2006 was good to watch...but they also had better players than now, so that makes sense.

But yeah, probably people don't give a shit cause they lost a final against Greece.

Portugal has won two trophies in our entire history mate. Two. Both of them with Fernando Santos. You're not german, french or brazilian... the entitlement is ridiculous.

When we won them you say it's luck because we didn't play well. Today or at the World Cup we get knocked out despite being the better team and then it's because he's an idiot, nothing to do with luck.

How you could have lived through the past few years and still feel like the people who are grateful to him are being dumb is unbelievable. Of course people are grateful, I get that people might think it's time for him to go but how in the world could any portuguese football fan not be grateful? I'll never understand that

@Peyroteo just forget that shit from the ignore list. Sometimes I lose my patience after a discussion. You are a decent poster even if you turned over the years half the Forum against Ronaldo because you know… sometimes you are a fanboy. Sorry and forget it.

Ok ok some of your points are valid but not for me. Tomorrow I will watch the rest of the competition without emotions. But I want him sacked anyway.

Not really, mate. The turning on Ronaldo happened in 2009.

It really does and it feels bad for me. Wish both countries would just play a bit of decent positive football.

With that said I think England will beat Germany. Actually yesterday watched the Euro 96 opening game between England and Switzerland and Southgate actually was a decent player.

Think Ronaldo will carry onto the World Cup at least so they will have to keep accommodating him in the team which means no out and out striker. Hopefully Pepe will retire after this and they can build a younger defence.

I was more comparing to the teams in this tournament. Many of the big nations such as France play really boring football.

It’s okay mate, it’s understandable after that

Our record at the Euros had been way too good, it was bound to happen that we went out early eventually. We had won plenty of tight matches where things went our way, today it was the opposite but for me I’ve seen us have enough success in this competition for a lifetime so it’s not so bad.

Less than 2 years for the World Cup and that’s the tournament where I think this team has to leave their mark

Deserved to go out. Too defensive with the array of attacking talent they have. Would have liked to have see Andre Silva start and supporting Ronaldo up front by doing the dirty work i.e. holding the ball up, chasing down the channels and the pressing. Also would have liked to seen joao felix start in 4231.

Fair post. I think Portugal were unlucky today. They at least deserved to take it to extra time.

Portugal's team selection was too conservative, exactly the same cautious approach is adopted by Southgate.

Feel Portugal could have gone through with a more progressive manager. One aspect the Portuguese always exemplify is a real competitive team spirit and when you throw a winner like Ronaldo into that mix it's the perfect recipe for success.

Bit of an overreaction by Keane here. He was OK. Didn't have an impact but he wasn't that terrible to warrant being called an imposter surely?

Yeah, just Roy being Roy. No need to pay too much attention to this.

What
If it was aim at Jota or Bruno, I could still understand, as they have been hugely disappointed. But Felix only has limited game time in this tournament, not fair to bash him like that.

Portugal were the better side. Felix should have played from the start and maybe even Silva

Portugal is the better team with more quality, Belgium was really lucky, overrated team in my opinion.

I’m still wondering what Jota has on the portuguese manager that he started each game. He’s hardly done anything right the 4 games I’ve seen him in.

I think it just came down to who fits with Cristiano and he decided it was a wide forward rather than a false 9 like Felix or a traditional 9 like Andre Silva.

But yeah, probably would have been better off playing Bruno as a false 9 and Cristiano out left today.

The same luck Portugal got against France in 2016 final, including a hit on the post at the last minute.

He has to carry on for a few more games anyway so he can grab that internstional goals record from Ali Daei (sp?).
I think he’s only 2 or 3 goals away.

Portugal was way too cautious in every 1st half. Feels like they threw away 45 minutes again and it cost them.
