isn't some of the reporting around Camavinga that we'd be looking at him as a pogba replacement? Tends to fit with Duckers story?

So we go all out for Sancho and Varane, and maybe a pogba or multiple squad players make way for Camavinga.
I actually think they'd play pretty well together. Camavinga would be all action, breaking up play, letting Pogba play.

I also don't think Pogba will leave this summer imo. Think he will sign an extension or leave for free next summer. He would cost far too much for a player who would be a luxury for the teams that could probably justify that fee currently. Who knows though.

What a summer this would be. It's almost as if we said feck it, we'll start acting like the biggest club in the world again. A huge player willing to leave Madrid for us sends out a huge statement to the league. We may not win the league this year but keep this ambition up and it wont be long until we do.

True..Baily and Lindelof should be sold and replace with 1 decent young defender+varane

Matic/Perrera / Dalot / Jones / Baily / Lindelof still lot to go to have a winning team.
I totally agree on this. There's no point keeping both Lindelof and Bailly if we bring in Varane. Lindelof is a decent 3rd option, keep Axel as 4th option or loan him out, sell Bailly and buy a young CB that we can groom to partner with Axel in the long term. There's options like Loic Bade, Badiashile. We can be creative in finding a 19/20 year CB with tons of potential.

Maguire lacks pace so we typically set up half way between 18 yard line and half way. Varane likes to set up close to half way line. I have never seen him play in a deep lying defence. I’m sure it can be worked out but it is a concern.
The defensive line has almost everything to do with which goalkeeper we play, far more than which centre backs we play. With DDG we play deep because he barely leaves his line, with Henderson we play 15-20 yards further forward because he's much quicker off his line.

I'm no fan of Lindelof and would be delighted to sign Varane to replace him but genuinely making the correct decision with the goalkeeper is far more important than signing a new centre back.

Something is definitely happening. this just doesn't feel like a contract ploy.

Ogden aint great on stories, but he's not the worst one either. I'd expect a contract ploy to be coming from the local spanish papers. Too many good and "ok" journos moving onto this story.

If this is even remotely close to being true, United really seem to have gotten their shit together so far this summer.

As much as the FM fanboys want to believe, it's never as simple as making a bid and then getting it accepted within 24 hours. Deals (particularly for players like Sancho for huge money, take time) and to get it done and dusted before the window officially opens, I tip my hat. And if they're close to Varane too, fair play.

How reliable is Ogden?

Ogden is not the most reliable source but usually the stuff he gets wrong is not such as this. Correct me if I am wrong but I don't recall him writing a story like this ever before. He must have something decent on his hands to go this far.

anyone a bit surprised how quick this one is moving?

Madrid are freaking out that they are going to lose 2 starting CB's on a free? If MUFC come with 50m euros and Varane refuses a contract, Madrid would be mad to play the long game?

Real need money and they know he's not signing a contract.

That Ogden story has nothing but speculation that Madrid would be ready to deal if United offer 50M as they want to reinvest elsewhere.

Glazers are shitting their pants it seems. More protests and we will get Mbappe and Haaland looks like.

Ducker said in his article yesterday that any more incomings after the purchase of a centre back will be funded by sales. Sancho and Varane were Ole's main targets this summer it's not a surprise that United are moving quickly for both.

That article is 1. ESPN, so probably fecking bollox and 2. doesn't even say a deal is close to being finalised, the article literally says that they would be open to negotiate.

If that's the case about getting players sold then we need to get a move on and get them sold. Need to invest that money in a CDM! With Sancho and hopefully Varane and a CDM will be a perfect transfer window.

How? In theory it seems like a perfect match.

Maguire: Monster in the air, leader, good on the ball, calm, slow, plays LCB.

Varane: Speedmonster, good on the ball, good in the air, strong in the tackle, plays RCB.

Vaguire.
Varane is a very good CB but I don’t really agree with what you wrote. He is not a player that goes in to duels, and does not win many balls in the air and does not tackle a lot. He is not that type of player. He is fast though, and decent on the ball.

If this is true you can't fault the ambition of the club this summer. Possibly too early to make comment on the new recruitment team but the the right noises are being made.

Sancho, Varane and Camavinga would be a very promising start if we can get those deals done.

I strongly reckon we'd set up higher if we get Varane, what with his ridiculous recovery pace. It actually might be better for Maguire too, as his acceleration is crap but his top speed is decent, so he has more space and time to recover. Clutching at straws here maybe with that last one. :wenger:

To be honest just those 2 alone would make a huge difference.

I'd imagine we will sell a few to sign another RB, doubt we expected Trippier to cost £30m and he's not worth that.

You forget they've already signed Alaba on a free. They've been preparing for Varane going at the very least for months. More broadly than that, they are just broke, and need to offload their high earners.
