UK Sky Sports are about as reliable as any UK tabloid journos. Infact anything they speculate usually has the reverse effect.

All the rumours with substance come from the journos who work for the broadsheets.

Adding a player of Camavinga's talent is a no-brainer for any club in the abstract. But I don't think he is going to step in and play regularly in the PL at a high level for a club like United and a player at his age really should be playing regularly somewhere. The move to the PL can be a really hard league adjustment for CMs, as the pace of the game and half second less time on the ball can require almost an entire mental rewiring. Midfielders like Rodri, Fred, Fabinho, Partey, Jorginho, N'Dombele have all needed a substantial period of adjustment coming into the PL. Camavinga might have more natural talent than any of them but he is also far less developed at this stage in his career.

Hi, I'm coming to talk about Camavinga even though I can see that you already know a lot.
His first season was monstrous, a lot of qualities, excellent in pressing, in recovery, he played in No. 6, as a defensive midfielder. Already at this position his percussion qualities were visible which makes it a very complete midfielder. His passes are actually not his strong point, not a weak point either, just nothing out of the ordinary. In terms of attitude, he is a fighter (still running just as much in the 90th minute), very serene and mature, who never lets go. Appreciated by everyone at the club, professional and motivated to become a great player. He has his head on his shoulders and has to accept 1 or 2 passages on the bench. He experienced a personal tragedy at a very young age, the family house burned down completely, which is why he is a mature young man.
His second season had started well. Subsequently his change of agent and his selections for the national team hurt him. Everything is going very fast for him, too fast. He was injured and took almost 1 month to come back. In addition, his position has also evolved, he played in 8 last year and sometimes seemed less comfortable with his back to the game, less effective defensively and a little more timid. His association with Nzonzi was not working.
His season remains good but he still dropped a level. I think that he would need a little time to adapt and a coach who asks him to play on his qualities: pressing, recovery, percussion ball to the feet. In my opinion for 40m € it is yours, we are in a bad position to negotiate. In conclusion, yes he is indeed a prodigy, what he showed with us is really amazing regardless of his age, he has incredible physical abilities, in the duel he resists players much stronger than him, he is very lively. and enduring. Technically flawless on ball controls, able to dribble. He needs to improve on his passes, make good openings like Pogba and score more goals.
Here I hope to have informed you a little more but do not forget that I am a Rennes supporter so I lack a little objectivity. And sorry for my terrible English
Very insightful, great post.

There's a big difference between playing with two defensive midfielders and playing with two midfielders who are both solid defensively. Realistically we try to do the latter as neither Fred nor McTominay are actually defensive midfielders, but both of them are stronger in the defensive aspects than they are on the ball.
I don't really care how you prefer to dress it. The bottom lien is we were forced into that due to our incompatibility issue at center defence. Period!

Ideally we need players who provide both defensive stability and playmaking.
We don't. There is no good reason why a top team should have more than one defensive oriented player in center midfield. Even a Cheslea that just won the UCL play with a Jorginho who would be murdered if he was left alone to do defensive duties and is really there for his ability to run games from deep

We need to get away from this situation where we try to fit in players who provide very little defensive stability (Pogba) or very little on-the-ball ability (McTominay), as either scenario leaves us poorly balanced. Both midfielders should be solid at both. It doesn't matter how good your defence is, your midfield needs to help protect them.
The issue here is people insisting n the deluded notion our midfield doesn't protect the defence enough. It utter nonsense. Our biggest issue has been having a center defensive pair that can't be protected. The very thing City suffered with stones and Otamendi. The solution has never been to change the midfield, you change the defensive pairing.

The way people talk on here one would believe we concede goals because of player easily running on goal from open lay from midfield. When the vast majority are because of the inherent weaknesses of the starting center defence pair as a combo. They are usually either caught too deep, caught out leaving a no mans land between them and the midfield, or both backing off from an advancing opponent instead of one pressing and another covering. Worse on set pieces they are both constantly wanting to be free to pick up runs rather than either of them actually picking a person to mark.

McTominay in particular really doesn't do any more defensive work than the average midfielder, it's just that he provides so little when we have the ball (other than the three or four really good games a season where he steps it up) that people make the mistake of thinking that he's actually compensating for that by doing a lot defensively. He really doesn't. It shouldn't be that hard to sign a midfielder that provides at least as much defensively as he does while also giving us much more playmaking ability.
I'd believe the likes of you if your solutions were not as under whelming and as offside as Declan Rice...

I think we are being used as a sounding board to see who will bid for him. Like Verane no bid has been made its all paper talk.

Where the grass is greener.
Real don't have the pennies to rub together to buy Camavinga after basically giving everything in the piggy bank to Alaba. Saving all they can for Mbappe aren't they.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

Jorginho does plenty of defensive work, statistically much more than McTominay in pretty much every aspect . Indeed he is one of the best current examples of the type of player that we should be looking at.

The Chelsea midfield is a great example of what I'm talking about. Kante does his thing with his incredible pressing and ball-winning ability, knowing that he's got Jorginho covering when the opposition get past him. Without that covering Kante wouldn't have as much freedom to chase after the ball and would have to be a bit more disciplined with his positioning. Meanwhile Jorginho has the protection of Kante alongside him to share the defensive duties with, while he himself also brings the playmaking ability.

Both players being solid defensively doesn't mean either have to be good enough to do all the defensive duties by himself. Indeed that's an expectation that really shouldn't be put on a midfielder. Neither Kante nor Jorginho would be as good if they had to do it pretty much by themselves. It's about getting a good balance between them.

I'd believe the likes of you if your solutions were not as under whelming and as offside as Declan Rice...
Rice has never been my solution. He may or may not be able to develop that side of his game, but right now he doesn't bring enough ability on the ball (from what I've seen which is admittedly not much) to bring a good balance. I don't watch enough non-Utd matches these days to know who my solution would be but an improvement on McTominay shouldn't be that difficult. Going purely on statistics and the little I've seen of him Locatelli is interesting. I'm not sure if he's good enough defensively for my liking but he's probably the right type of player to then have next to a Fred/Camavinga who obviously do a lot of defensive work.

I have a feeling PSG will be the competition here not RM. We should really try to conclude this quickly even more so than the Varane deal.

I agree, imagine us signing Varane first and then Madrid using that money to sign camavinga.

Thank you for your post. I watched him in his first season as a #6, but not at all in the second so have been surprised to hear of his struggles from yourself and other French posters. Was his transition to the #8 decided by his playing style or was it implemented by your coach? What I mean by this is, if he was so impressive as the #6, why was his position changed in the first place?

What do you see his final position as given he can play all the midfield positions?

My point is simply this. The second deep midfield does not have to be defensive oriented. Let alone very exceptional defensively. Jorginho is no different from a Pogba defensively in my book. The one thing that improved at Chelsea was the defence, not the midfield. That took them from what they looked like under lampard to UCL Champs. Our biggest issue has been being forced to use 2 more defensive oriented players in Midfield because of our defence. No amount of importing better midfielders will change that till the defence issue is solved.

Imagine a player in 2021's preference being Spain  how bizarre how bizarre.
I doubt that it is, that guy's a proven chancer.

All the reports in France claim that it's to stay in France if possible but the only club there who can afford him have other priorities, I.E. Pogba

I really wish people would stop posting his tweets. The guy genuinely knows absolutely nothing. All of that could be correct but it's not because he's heard it.
