Mancini knows his sh*t and will hopefully keep heads cool enough to survive the opening 30 minutes in a packed Wembley and the trophy in sight on the sideline.
It's for the last 30' that he needs to come up with some idea about how to survive them...

I think we peaked too early. We looked gassed against Belgium since minute 75 and once again against Spain since minute 60. I've not a good feeling for the final..

What's up with their fitness levels? They look a step behind after 70 minutes.

Got extra days rest v whoever wins tommorow.

Plus I thought Mancini was smart with substitutes and used all 6.

Exceeded expectations! Belgium and Spain were always going to pose huge threats with individual quality (the former) and extreme possession (the latter). We won one, we drew another. Not too bad.

The final game on Sunday will be the pinnacle for almost any player in our squad… so many losses in the past. Last chance saloon for the veterans. From a matchup perspective, I am more worried about their nerves than the oppos, really.

Mancini's last final at Wembley didn't go too well...

Well, he can’t play for sure? :D I mean, get him, Vialli, Evani on the left plus Oriali in the middle and we have the trophy.

ahaha yeah that's got to be the best plan available =D
there's also De Rossi over there so that's exactly 5 substitutions

I don’t think they'll beat England provided England beat Denmark. Spinazzola such a big loss to them, they struggled hard to move the ball up the pitch at all today and after 2 exhausting wins, I think they'll struggle a bit. England will defend solidly and it'll definitely be a slow game, but I think they'll run out of steam.

I thought Locatelli or Cristante would've been better options instead of Pessina.
Neither of them would've left that much space for the Spain goal.

Also Berardi should've really scored the 2nd and killed the game.

They don't have much of a hope against England for me. Yes they will control the game but England will keep them out comfortably and catch them on the break at least once. In particular they have no one that will worry Shaw enough to stop them harming them and if he does then Kane will too. They've had a great competition but England simply now have the best squad in Europe. If Southgate starts Grealish (England's best player next to Shaw) then they won't have an answer for the left side.

Edit: apologies to Danish fans but I reckon Denmark are a tougher test for England but an easier game for Italy. Still I don't rule out Denmark getting to the final. In fact I expect a very tight game.

I think Denmark is more likely to hurt us with their pressing and fitness at this stage. England are more than comfortable to sit back and try to hit us on the counter, but we tend to thrive when teams drop deeper and let us get into our rhythm offensively.

Not only did Spain possess the ball well, they passed and moved extremely well between the lines, and showed a lot of intensity to win the ball back when they lost it, I think Denmark has shown more of those qualities than England to this point. Either game is tough though as we look quite tired.

Of course a packed Wembley will likely play a part against England as well.

99% of the time I would say that Denmark is a massive banana skin for England, and the press and media need to stop going on about how the Danes will be 'no problem for us' because such complacency is embarrassing.

But this is probably the best England team I can remember in 30 years of watching football. Better than the Euro 96 squad and better than the 'golden generation' of 2002.

That said, if England do get to the final, I still think we will struggle against Italy. The Italians will have a siege mentality at Wembley, they will dig in, cling on, and scrap like hell to stop England from making chances. I could see it being a scrappy 0-1 Italy win in extra time.

Really? This England team that was drab until the game against the mighty Ukraine?

I mean, they are a defensive team who have not conceded a goal and only looked like doing so once or twice and have scored when they needed to every time except for the game against Scotland (derbies are always weird one off games at any level of football). Drab might not be an unfair description but I would say that they have been drab because they have been so comfortable for the most part.

Best team player for player? Probably not but close to that and definitely the team that is best setup to win things.

People say that Italy would be easy but Spain won the midfield battle today which England would never do. You dominate the midfield and pressure the Italian aged defence, you have a chance.

England will line up a 5 man defense and hit on counter with Sterling. Problem is, who will bring the ball out of defence? England are going to face the same issue which Italy faced today. How would you bring the ball to other side when your midfield is being dominated ?

If Southgate is brave enough, he will just bring in Foden and Grealish, which will help dominate but will be exposed in back.

You have to take a chance. It's a final.

Obviously assuming, you win against Denmark.

I'm English and Italy is the team I have feared most throughout this tournament. I don't know anybody who think it will be easy at all.

I don't think it's the best England side, it's very solid side but everything kind of came together to give them a perfect scenario to win it. An easy enough group, tough Ro16 match but against definitely the most suited for England to beat out of that group of death (and a Germany side that has been seriously struggling for a few years), a kind quarter final and semi final schedule (Denmark has been impressive, but still they aren't Italy or Spain or one of the giants), and then the Euro's effectively being in England for England from start to finish, while most of the others have had to travel loads (especially their now semi final opponents coming from fecking Azerbaijan). Combine all that with a good togetherness from the group, a talented group of individuals and Italy looking absolutely knackered and having their player of the tournament tear his achilles, and they really will never have a better chance.

England is well known for their flops, but it's always one thing losing early against one of the best and another entirely losing against a much worse side like that Iceland flop or losing in the group stage. But losing to Portugal on pens in 2004 and 2006, or 2-1 to Brazil in 2002 for me just means they were unlucky more than anything tbh. Three narrow defeats in knockout stages against one of the best in matches that could've gone either way, such is tournament football that sometimes a team has luck and other times they don't. This time around they've been drawn against teams they are just a lot better than, with Germany on paper being the only tight game which they finally got the rub of the green go their way.

We didn't look gassed against belgium? Against Spain yes, but then they made us chase ghosts for the whole game, that's tiring

Great tournament for us! Not a good match for Barella-Jorginho-Verratti, but we did it anyway.

I think the final is going to be Italy - Danmark... Don't know why, but this is my feeling since the last16.

Why isn't Tonali playing? Injured?
Because he is a young player that showed nothing good yet. Till now, very overrated. Let's see what he's gonna do in the future.

Spain looked like they had an extra gear against Italy. Was it good Spain conditioning or Italy being gassed? I don't know how much Italy can recover and get in tournament form before Sunday, but Mancini's physio's have a big job before them.

I just don’t understand how you can make that assumption? An Italy team who ran through most teams and then produced two excellent wins over Belgium and Spain who are two top teams.
All the while England have stuttered through the tournament until a great win over Germany and then a piss take win over the Ukraine who don’t have a player good enough to even get into Englands squad never mind starting 11??

Suddenly Italy ‘don’t have a hope’ ha! What complete bollocks. Scotland nearly turned England over a couple of weeks ago. I don’t have a horse in the race as I’m half Italian/English but some of the ‘opinions’ are so ridiculous.

Not a great game for Barella yesterday, think the pressure of a big game got to him, was misplacing passes, taking heavy touches and bad decisions. Think he's a lot better in games that are physical in midfield, and he has space to drive into.
Good learning experience for him though, I am very excited about this team for Qatar. Hope Kean an Raspadori come of age in the next 18 months. Obviously Spinazzola too.

Edit - How could I forget Zaniolo.

Of course no sane manager would change his system in the fnal, but I really think England (in case) would smash us if they play a basic 4-3-3 with Henderson in the middle and Sterling-Kane-Mount ahead.

Ok, let it be a 4-3-1-2 then? You get my point, their two-man midfield may be too thin. Anyway, it’s a debate for tomorrow. :D

Chiellini feels like someone who's won the lot but he has no CL or international medal to his name, wouldn't begrudge him lifting the trophy at all

Mount is a very mobile, high energy player. He effectively allows them to switch between 3 and double pivot at need

I'm very happy they won yesterday. They played pretty poorly yesterday but the atmosphere yesterday at the stadium with mostly Italians and English fans was electric. Also, I think England would stand a better chance against Italy than against Spain who would pass (and shithouse) us to death. If it can't be England, Italy are more than worthy winners.
